I got the Tap last summer, same concept. I wanted the portability, so I could take it outside when I work in the garden, or move it room to room. As it's battery powered it doesn't have the full on voice recognition of the Echo (which I may get)
Get "IHeart Radio" and "Tune me in" accounts (put the apps on your phone/ipad), and Alexa will link to them. It will also link to your Amazon Prime music account, if you have one, and Pandora.
The timer is really handy, and so is the alarm. I'm not a shopping list or daily planner type of person, so I don't use those features.
There are a billion features that I don't use or even know about, but the access to music is great. It's also great for trivia. The hands-free voice activation makes it more handy than Ciri.
I got one last year, still enjoying the music side of it. If you join amazon prime you have tons of music options. I still like the Tune In local radio side of it. Lots of indie stations. If you buy a CD from Amazon you get those songs put into your library and you can listen to those also. You also can make your own set lists and just play it on shuffle. When I got mine there was only 12 apps, now there are hundreds. Hands free math sport scores and spelling or phone numbers for different things all work great. I agree with everything Brian said. I use mine more than I thought I would. Have fun enjoy your new toy.

A few weeks ago I said, "Play
A few weeks ago I said, "Play the album Blue Mountain," and it played it. I guess, with Prime, you don't even have to buy the albums.
The Tap gets really tinny when it's loud, and I hear the Echo is way better.
