GoT's Returns for Final Season this Weekend!!!!

Forums:

I can't wait!!!!! Just finished rewatching the entire series!!!!!!!

Happy and sad all at once, It feels like they cut it short by a season or two to me.

Hoping the Book WInds of Winter will hit right after the final episope airs....

Just finished rewatching the entire series!!!!

What a great job by the casting folks.

Game of Thrones is like the NFL.  Something for people with nothing better to do or talk about to talk about.

I hope the Hound gets a chance to kill the Mountain

And I hope they bring queen margery back in some flashback scenes

AWESOME!!!!

Definitely trying to tie up some loose ends last night and set the stage for the end.   While there were some aha moments, seemed a bit of a waste of an episode with only 5 to go.  Let's get to the good shit.

But since Hall brought up Yara, I'm interested to see how Euron reacts to potenially losing ground while he was fucking the queen.

Jon finally finding out who he really is was dope. The reuniting of so many characters that haven't seen each other since season 1. Jon riding the Dragon.

Arya's new weapon looks cool. Bet she'll wield it like a pimp too.

The Winterfell Set looks awesome so far.

Damn, I wish there was more than 5 left to go.

Jon riding the dragon was a mistake.   Just a disney ploy in the middle of an otherwise good show.   Kind of like throwing Ed Sheeran in for a song.   Although I think the whores said the ginger got his face burned so there ya go.

Bran is a real bummer. He’s going to out Jamie who is actually cool now. Bran on the other hand doesn’t seem like he’d be a cool person to hang out with at all.

Targaryens ride dragons, that's what they do.

The Night King also can ride dragons. Likely that  white walkers will also learn to sail -  and then it it be Pirates of the Carribean meets GOT

1_25.jpg

>>.Bran is a real bummer.

Bran is fine.  I like when he said " we don't have time for this" and then proceeds to just chill the rest of the episode.

>>Targaryens ride dragons,

I guess.  Still cheesey like bobby.    The dragons aren't eating so let's take them for a ride to a waterfall so we can fuck.   OR...you could take them south and feed them.

Food schmood, more fucking so they can breed more lil dragon riders...I mean really own that shit.

Lannisters will be an after thought.

>The dragons aren't eating so let's take them for a ride to a waterfall so we can fuck.   OR...you could take them south and feed them.

Yeah.. and it’s possible that the dragons (if they’re anything like lizards) are cold blooded and their bodies shut down and they go into hibernation during winter. So fucked they are!

Never watched, but it appears to have hooked quite a few money spenders. Fender took note >

Game of Thrones™ House Stark, Telecaster® | Telecaster Electric Guitars | Fender® Guitars
http://www.fendercustomshop.com/guitars/telecaster/game-of-thrones-house...

I don't see a price for that ax anywhere on the link. :(

So, are we all agreed Bran is the Night King?

>>>>Bran is fine.  I like when he said " we don't have time for this"

he said that because there are only six episodes left.

and you would want to have a beer with Bran? Maybe season 2 or 3 Bran but he’s a bit full of himself now

(*&(*^&^%$^%#%$#*&()**(&%$#$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 left......  :(

Those ax prices are crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No more Arya sex scenes please. I’d rather watch Lady Brianne and Tormund.

Everyone sure is ready to die awfully quick.

^Thats just Bran, baby.

"Time is a flat circle"

-true detective.

2da44e018d1b84faef18489a827c5311.jpg

see, I told you Bran was a bummer

Thanks for pointing that out BK.

I still think the theory is solid though and only recently came across that photoshop after already being open to the idea.

Total confirmation bias though.

The Night King upon his creation was tasked with erasing the humans from existence. Bran is the depository of all human memory, hence he is the target of the Night King. Bran/3 eyed raven is trying to break the cycle since he's seen it all before, over and over. My guess is just before the Night King kills Bran, Bran will worg into Samwell because Sam made the speach about how important memories are and he is so into history. Bran wants to be killed but in a way that allows the humans to kill the Night King. That way the cycle will be broken.

But the One Eyed Crow says bad things happen if you stay warged too long with something along the lines of "its beautiful under the sea, but you will drown if you stay too long". Doesn't seem like a stable platform for man going forward if thats the case.

...Lending creedence to the idea that Bran got stuck when he warged back to the children of the forest ritual as he tried to convince them against it.

Also, Old Nan in the first episode is telling Bran about the night king and prefaces it with having heard a version of this tale where the Night King was a Stark and his name was Bran too.

It was good that they had Tormund explain that he was drinking the breast-milk of a giant when he was young because I like his scenes. Hopefully he will survive.

And TY for exposing that hoax, Briank

I don’t get in to the lore and technicalities, but I really enjoyed the last episode. From here on out, whatever happens happens. People will die and people will live. I’d be down with John killing his dragon aunt. She’s been annoying me and we haven’t seen her nude in a long time. Get rid of her. And I hope Arya kills that queen who isn’t there. Maybe she’ll steal the face off what’s-his-name incest dude and kill her that way.

Its been pretty cheesey overall imo, but high on the feelgood payoff so far...reunions...comeuppance, grand realizations, loose ends....

From the scene where Ed screams "get back, he's got blue eyes" about Tormund to Dany's "whatever they want" response about the dragons diet. I know it's knitpicky and critical, but its just indicative overall of the route they are taking to wrap this up.

It just feels like they are moving fast and spelling everything out for the cheap seats.

I'll still watching until the end of course.

So has any series ever had a satisfying ending? I can only think of the big fails Sopranos, Lost, and Seinfeld. I'm pretty sure that GOT will be the same. They may end with a cliff hanger to be resolved in the GOT movie. I just came see them shutting down the money machine.

I know. Honestly, after how short and lame (to me) last season was, coupled with the year break, I stopped caring too much. I’ll watch it and all, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.

>>>>>So has any series ever had a satisfying ending?

When Marlo bails during the investment dinner Levy set up and goes to a corner and shuts it down to open up shop.

Does seem like Dragon Queen Isn’t going to last.  Power hungry and arrogance will be her down fall.

and since incest is a theme in this drama, I have  to wonder if the dragon siblings  have been fooling around - a stash of eggs could be waiting to be found

perhaps  dragons get morning sickness. Lol

>>>>I can only think of the big fails Sopranos

shut your dirty whore mouth

So they guy in the red shirt is a certain writer of fiction getting ready for a show in 91. See this thread for details

https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/bh7vkk/my_dad_left_and_h...

got.jpg

Who is it Nino ?

what writer of fiction ?..

It’s George Martin, guy who worked with the Beatles. He wrote the book Game Of Thrones is based on too.

Nice Work Buck...

but even Reddit clowns know good & damn well that there's no way in hell ANY of those freakin' guys could possibly be GRRM circa '91....

"get back, he's got blue eyes" about Tormund to Dany's "whatever they want" response about the dragons diet.

I'll fess up to the cheap laugh at the blue eyes retort, but I heart Tormund. Agree though that both lines you mentioned left a distinctly "was that really necessary?" aftertaste. Actually, most of ep 2 was on the cringeworthy side, like the writers were in a rush to wrap it up and phone it in.

They are kind of in a rush to wrap it up. In only a few episodes they have to reintroduce old friends, lovers and enemies, wrap up a couple of dozen storylines, lose virginities, have a big battle, kill people off, and cement the Iron Throne. You try doing all that in 4 hours!

So long as Bran doesn’t wake up from a dream,  Dallas style..

Guessing that the ending will involve the ‘Game’ being reset to the beginning, and there will be a new origin story for the players - including the children of the forest.

and where the new series will begin!

Maybe because I read the book series up before the tv series started, and have pretty much given up on GRRM finishing it, he's better at starting stories than finishing them. The origin story seems to have the potential to be even better than the OG.

Today's the day!!!

Who will live who will die?????

Will Winterfell survive or fall?

Can't wait for tonight!!!!!

Everyone at Winterfell who can't ride or warg into a dragon is pretty much fooked.

What if Arya kills Cersei, but as Jamie?

While they're fuuuuuuuuuuuking.

I hope Arya puts Princess Margery’s face on for the rest of the series, then she can have all the sex she wants.

I think the Iron Throne plot, who dies etc. is small potatoes.

Game of Thrones is only the first book.

It's a Song of Ice and Fire.

The Night King is coming for SOMETHING.

Maybe even something that was promised?

Was there an agreement made way back when winter fell?

File all this under the Game of Theories heading lol

The crypts of Winterfell, they're safe right?

Someone is coming that can raise the dead and you hide in a cemetery?

Mmmm'kay

<<<It's a Song of Ice and Fire.

Right. Its always been about Jon Snow.

::He:: is the song of Ice and Fire being half Stark half Targ.

>>>>  Maybe because I read the book series up before the tv series started, and have pretty much given up on GRRM finishing it, he's better at starting stories than finishing them

on the other hand, arya.

OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!!!

WOW!!!!
WOW!!!!!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:)

Good Good Stuff.

Had it in my mind for an ethereal plot twist.

Back to reality.

Really well done.

It was all just one big moment and had me focused the entire time.

It Enveloped Me Cryptically.

And the music was just exactly perfect.

Someone forgot to turn on the lights.  Here's a pretty good take on what was not revealed about the other side of the wall. https://www.theringer.com/game-of-thrones/2019/4/29/18522174/r-i-p-night-king-we-wish-we-learned-your-secrets  ***(contains spoilers therein).

Arya.jpg

Well I went back and rewatched every single episode of every season. I did FF through a few scenes that I did not need to see again, like pretty much all the scenes that Ramsay was in, and a few battle scenes that I knew how they turned out. Watched every minute of seasons 1 and 2.  Forgot how good season 1 was.   There were a lot of boring scenes in those middle seasons.  Finally got to watch these last 3 eps tonight.   And I gotta say WOW.  Pretty intense but I did think they drug it on too far.  At some point you realize that the only thing to save everyone was killing the Night King. And the lighting was so poor that most of the battle was tough to follow. Could have done without the Arya sex scene but she has become my second favorite character in the show.  Love the Imp.  Wondering who did survive the battle and looking forward to the Northern wrap-up next weekend.

Pretty sure this is the best show in TV history though. All together.   Loved the scenes by the fireplace leading up to the battle.  The interactions between the many main players.  Good shit. I have enjoyed it immensely over the yrs and am not looking forward to it being over. Wondering how the triangle with Ser Briena and her 2 suitors will end up. I think all three made it through.

Now I can keep up on this thread with the rest of you.

Did the same thing. Even down to the FF with Ramsey, Battles and I would add the Grey Worm Romance to that list.

Beginning in Season 5 they started to do include "original content" as they were working off RR's outlines of the future books.

It shows.

Still searching for why the WW came. That's the BIG question for me. What's going on in the land of always winter?

I believe 10,000 years since the pact between the Men and the Children.

8000 years since the WW were defeated and the Wall built.

The WW were already in motion at the start.

What triggered it? An Event? A Birth.........?

BUT, this is IT. They have pushed the limits spectacularly of what can be produced with such a story using all the technology to allow the story to be told, but also the production from the CGI to the actual sets and onsite production.

At least for me, this is the last series I'll watch week to week. It's just as expensive to do a cable box as it is a streaming service like Sling, Hulu etc. Fubo is just destroyed having to take on the "packages" which include many useless channels. Netflix is becoming just a political arm.

The day after the merger of ATT and Time Warner was approved, owner of HBO, CEO and some other guy who had shepherded and been at HBO for decades, suddenly left. ATT is going to turn it all to %&$#.

An era is ending. I do OTA and AppleTV apps, now, I'll just do an app for month to watch/binge series.....freedom..lol

Such a brilliant reference and interplay with Eisenstein's classic horse charge in Alexander Nevsky.

Structurally very similar, but they were able to change details to fuck with your expectations.

Even if you havent seen Nevsky, you know the horse charge by every other derivative movie that has used it, so they were still able to fuck with your expectations.

>>>>. I did FF through a few scenes that I did not need to see again, like pretty much all the scenes that Ramsay was in

same here!!!! watching Theon getting tortured the first time was enough, thanks. I never need to see that stuff again.

That last episode would have been so much better in 4K HDR. They filmed it that way and it is available in BluRay but HBO doesn't stream in 4K HDR and most cable companies compress everything down to 720p. Meanwhile over at Netflix you can watch Cocaine Island in 4K HDR. I didn't mind the darkness it was intended to be confusing to put you in the same place as the characters, but the artifacts on my TV made it really distracting. ATT is probably going to ruin HBO. They spent $67B on Direct TV which was a huge mistake and the company is in turmoil right now.

Night King/Winter/Walkers going out like THAT after waiting 8000 mthrfckn was beyond WEAK and all too convenient.

utter Bullshit!! All neat and tidy as the episode ended.... Felt completely predetermined and left a hollow empty taste in the mouth after waiting TWO mthrfckn years for this...& after ALL of the grandiose claims, build-up, smoke & played up hype!

The ominous doomsday threat of Winter, the white Walkers, NK etc. was looming for 8 plus years... 8000 years in the show...since the first scene of episode 1 season 1...

***and went out with a feeble anticlimactic pitiful fckn whimper***

...  unmitigated Blunder & a senseless Damned shame.  What a complete waste of an opportunity.

The white walkers did ABSOLUTELY nothing the entire battle and are now GONE 4ever with no purpose utilized or explanation of motives/motivations..

No major critical characters were lost other than Jorah... Now all the major pieces are conveniently alive and ready to eat up screen time and occupy space for the last sequence of the show.   Frickin' GREAT job show-runners..

Character behavior/Things that went down during the battle make virtually ZERO logical sense when examined critically.  The whole fuckin' thing simply Does NOT hold up under scrutiny.  no rational reason for the individuals to act the way they did..& for so many characters to MAGICALLY walk away unscathed.

Pretty much the exact plan they layed out/TELEGRAPHED at the end of the previous episode...

******was essentially EXACTLY what fckn happened..

****SNOOOOOOOZZZZZE****

wake me @ the end of may when this is mercifully OVER!!

Shameless & unbelievably WEAK!!

Complete and total cowardly Cop-out from Benioff & Weiss..

***Arrogance and Hubris gone unchecked and run amok.

Show lost it's edge a while ago and fell prey to it's own shadow, predictable predetermined formulaic schticks, bait & switches and cringe-worthy CHEESE...

thought they could just Tie up all loose ends, reunite all characters, & wrap it UP all neat & clean..

in a rushed, scattered, fragmented fashion..

***perfect for this I-generation, age of immediacy, impatient, Zero-attention-span socially-engineered population.

Nice work boys!!

Anyone that's was ever a loyal fan of this show from the beginning when it was bad-ass and cutting edge..

should feel nothing short of Cheap, hoodwinked and CHEATED !!

the penultimate closing out of this once groundbreaking series was ultimately NOT in good hands or conscious capable control... the Fallout from which... ultimately Ruins the entire show.

Last three episodes are an irrelevant afterthought @ best after the most Massive Let-Down in the history of Television...

the entire Lore & Legacy of the show reduced to RUBBLE..

this sunday & the next don't even make a fuckin difference anymore.  Gonna be a telegraphed insignificant snooze-fest...  No one even cares anymore.

Cersei goes down... and some other obligatory shit ...crammed into a too-tight straightjacket of a window.

Sweet!  Whoop-dee-fuckin-doo...

R.I.P. GOT

Wow.  I think maybe you take it too seriously?  I have a lot of problems with the last show/battle also, but did not get anywhere near as pissed as you.   They knew that when the whitewalker generals died, their walking dead crumbled also. I think the battle should have been geared towards taking out the generals. Seeing whole regiments crumble one at a time would have been better.  I too am surprised that the whiteguys are out of it so soon.  Mostly all that is left is killing Cersei. And deciding which Targaryan will rule.  Will Blondie have a bastard from half brother Jon? Anyway, I am not ready to judge the last 3 shows of this unbelievably great series until I see it. I have had a bunch of great fun watching this show over the last 8 yrs or so, and am looking forward to watching the last 3 episodes.   Bring em on!

Meh.

i care much less about the decline in show quality now that ive started reading the books. the twists and turns and final fates of characters are much less interesting to me than the world building, history and massive scope of the story - so we will probably never get a real end to the books, but im content looking forward to reading "world of ice and fire" after finishing the current books. the massive amount of extra characters, lots of westeros history, and much more in depth explanations of character feelings/thoughts/motivations than is able to be put into the TV show is enough for me for now.

hey Liam that font makes your post unreadable

you should use that font for your NBA hot takes but use a normal font here so we can all read it

>>>>They knew that when the whitewalker generals died, their walking dead crumbled also.

Ok, since we are talking spoilers, that was weak sauce.   Why the fuck would the head white walkers go anywhere near the front line?   They should have been "in the rear with the gear" the whole time.  Instead, they go out front to get killed along with their entire army.  Instantly, like that.  Boom and their gone.

Reminded me of the final battle in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace when the entire droid army just shut down and collapsed when that little Skywalker kid blows up the command ship.

I believe Dany is Jon Snow's Aunt.  She said her brother raped the gal who turned out to be Jon's real mother, who were secretly in love.

Agreed, the shows last battle was at times too dark to see who was fighting who.  Why didn't the dragons go out ahead of the Dothracki and mow down a bunch of WW before they even got close to the castle?

Wasting the Dothracki like that was pretty stupid.

Aunt or sister?  Did not think her brother was old enough to be Jon's pop. Sometimes the names are confusing.

My little birdies told me ep 4 has hit the torrent wires.

In secret Reagher Targaryen annulled the marriage with a Martell girl of House Dorne to marry Lyanna Stark.

Their child is Jon Snow. It's why he can ride dragons.

Danny is Jon's aunt. They are going to prom together.

The battle plan was centered around drawing out the Night King.

The Night King bringing in a blizzard messed things up.

However, still holes in the plan and execution which caused much more loss than necessary.

Name any Sergeant to General in history that has even had their battle plan executed just exactly perfect.

Yah know, like a Swiss watch.

Hope it ends on the historical / supernatural side of things and not on the soap opera side.

The musical score for the entire episode last week was so well done.

Fans will RIOT after tonight's episode...

showrunners D & D straight-up MURDERED the show...

sliced it up Bloodier than the Red mthrfckn wedding.

Such possibility and potential going into this season.

GONE...

BUTCHERED!!!

Worst Writing EVER...

doing the most severe injustice to the characters and anyone who ever invested a dime in this story.

Don't torture or subject yourself if you ever had any affinity for G.O.T.  ...

you will indeed feel absolutely CHEATED, GUTTED, and Used like a cheap tavern wench.

I guaranTEE it...

yeah, but look at it this way...george rr martin went to dead and company's playing in the sand. D&D is obviously the best we have.

"And then Tyrion waddled over to the Scarlet-Fire tent, content in his decision to purchase the Super VIP package while the rest of his ragged party craned their necks to see the gnarled old weirwoods fiddling with their knobs."

you will indeed feel absolutely CHEATED, GUTTED, and Used like a cheap tavern wench.

im betting ill just feel a few moments of mild disappointment, but gods be good hopefully it will leave me feeling used like a cheap tavern wench. its been to many moons since ive had an honorable lord to warm my bed and fill my belly with his seed.

No F'n way.... WTF!!! &^$$*%^$(*(&_!!!!!!

That didn't just happen

:( :( :(

everyone's still shell shocked..... lol

Losing the 2nd Dragon was just the worst part of that 1 for me

the scene with Bronn was a real head scratcher

I wasn’t sure why they’d let Aria just ride off basically by herself and not involve her in the attack plans

seems like Cersei could have killed them all at the end

and how didn’t Dany see all of those attack ships when she’s flying around on her dragon?

I was bummed for Tormund that he didn’t get to bang Lady Briyanne

Bran continues to be a weirdo. He likes his chair, ok pal thanks.

everyone's still shell shocked

the only thing im shell shocked by is one of the greatest tv shows of all time being turned into some kind of micheal bay fan fiction

Dany is getting all mad queen.   Wonder if Arya will kill her as some pointed out...someone pointed out she has green eyes.

Will Jaime kill his sister, will they both die falling out of the window.

I swear I was watching coupling last episode, good lord it was bad.   Jaime, how drunk were you.

Tormund really heading north...I thought we were fam now.   Brienne really staying back.  Ghost?   WTF.

Dany has said episode 5 is epic....so that's what I'm holding out for.   Two more shoes...and then we can focus on the deadwood movie

Seemed to me they were hinting pretty hard that this will end with John Snow as king of the realm

“what if there is someone better?”

It's a little rushed but I'm still entertained. This meme though...lol

got1.jpg

Damn, the 2nd to last tonight....... sad to see this almost done. They could have gone at least 1 more season so this season didn't seem so rushed......

Is it 6pm yet so I can watch it here in California, YET!!!! lol

There’s gotta be a Hound vs Mountain show down! Maybe Arya will get involved.

 IMG_1697.PNG

and now only ONE remains..... God I hope the Book release is announced shortly after this TV version raps up!!!

butchering & assassinating Dany's entire character arc in the course of two+ episodes.  Massacering Jaime's entire arc as well.  Reducing Tyrion to a complete bumbling joke for two+ years.

GTFOH...

BYE!

***FUCK Benioff & Weiss...

Arrogant pompous misogynist pieces of SHIT...

Marginalizing and degrading this strong female character... for What?  To try to say that female empowerment crusades trying to Rule... doesn't end well/ends in disaster/ruin ?  What a load of cockbullSPUNK.

they Said after the episode "she went crazy because she had no advisors.."

BULLshit!!  Her advisors royally screwed her from the second she got to westeros... she would've been better off without them from the start.

Liam, you need to get out more.

Blow up yer TV, bro.

Don't own a tv chief...

You ever read the Books.. aka "A Song of Ice & Fire" ?

Check out Daenerys's character in the book if you haven't.

Good shit bro.

* * * * * * * * * * *

HBO offered D & D all the resources they desired and multiple 10 episode seasons to finish it the right way... with the RIGHT PACING... and give it the ending it deserved.  They chose instead to follow the quickest & easiest exit strategy... compressing everything into 6 episodes (and seven the season before) destroying every major character arc and butchering everything that defined the show and made it great.  as stated above... they somehow forgot they weren't making a michael fucking BAY film...Bwahaha..

Hubris & delusion run WILD and unchecked.

Do not ask for whom the bell tolls.

Halfway through but WOW!

In summary...

the original sin/crime was the decision post season 6 that dany w three dragons, an armada, a huge army, and the best advisors..

was too powerful for cersei and thus had to be taken down several pegs in order to maintain the drama.

these past two seasons show that you can NOT cut down the number of eps in a season and satisfactorily make up the missing storytelling by making eps longer while maintaining established pacing. That simply doesn’t work whatsoever.

They really ruined everything with this approach and every major character arc...

Series not even rewatchable after this clusterfuck Butchery Massacre!!!

everything about this season and now in retrospect Last season too... does NOT feel Earned whatsoever.

Dany tells Jon not to tell anybody his true identity...

Jon tells Sansa who tells tyrion who tells Varys...

INstantly they all turn on her & fear she's "unhinged" as she loses more that's near and dear...

Because of all the aforementioned above ^^^

... and her not even close to believable cheap  'jealously' of Jon and how the people LOVE him SO...

Dany proceeds to "GO MAD"...

roast and murder innocent civilians for no clear apparent endgame/reason

***except of course ... YUP... you guessed it  (thanks benioff/weiss)

as a cheap flimsy plot device to make it easy for Jon/Arya to have NO CHOICE but to kill her next episode...

Bwahahahahahahaha !!!!!!

GTFOH...

Bye!!

now everyone's saying Dany conveniently has Green eyes...

so Brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes... Arya might kill her now

When your Family Tree don't fork... You might be a pyro.

IMG_1699.PNG

Great episode last night !! I’m predicting Aria puts Dany on her list and that’s how John Snow becomes king of the realm

is the "brown eyes blue eyes green eyes" thing in the books? i am not to that part yet - im in the middle of clash of kings and arya is still at harrenhall...but in the books danys eyes are purple like the rest of the targaryens.

i agree with all youve said about the pacing - the past 2 short seasons should have been 4 full length seasons for sure. things do feel unearned, shoved down our throats, etc...but im of the opinion that dany losing her shit and burning KL is probably a piece of the endgame directly from GRRM and it will be in the books...it just fits with his style IMO...you go along for all of game of thrones thinking ned is the main character - he dies. you go through clash of kings and im guessing around half of storm of swords thinking robb and catelyn's story is one of the main "good guy" POV's - they die...and on and on it goes like that...where george builds up characters into people we admire and care about and then tears them down in a way that cuts as deep as possible.

although i dont think the tv show executed it properly, i think its a pretty great ending to her story thats in line with so many previous horrors GRRM wrought upon us...and i think the reactions that fans are having is the intended reaction...anger. all of her allies on the field are probably pissed. she is killing her own people, innocents, women, children, etc, and now because youve followed this person for 9 years(longer if you are a pre-show book reader...would love to hear dise weigh in more on this thread), thinking she was developing into a just ruler, you get to feel the anger with them.

GRRM always said the ending will be bittersweet. there will be some very positive stuff at the end but to get there you are going to lose some of the things and characters you love most, and losing a character doesnt necessarily mean they die...although id be shocked if longclaw(jorahs family sword) does not kill dany next episode, and even more shocked if she doesnt die in some way, jon/longclaw or no. arya killing her makes sense but i think its more likely that her assasin thing has been fulfilled  by killing the night king and in true super fucked up GRRM fashion jon will kill dany...the prophecy of azor ahai and lightbringer pretty much outline the whole thing...in the books salladhor saan describesd the story to davos much better than i will...but the story is that azor ahai kept trying to forge this incredible sword, but it kept breaking when he tempered it. so after trying to temper it in all kinds of absurd fantastical ways, he finally tempers the sword by plunging it into his wifes breast and killing her, and that sword is lightbringer, the same sword that mellisandre was talking about during the first scene at dragonstone way back in season 2.

i know the show mostly ignores the azor ahai stuff, but it is there, they do mention lightbringer a few times, and if jon killing dany with longclaw as symbolism for/fulfillment of the azor ahai prophecy is going to be in the end of the books it will probably be in the last episode next week.

on top of that the show has always been more nihilistic than the books, which i like and is generally in line with my real life worldview...but if you were expecting all of your favorite characters to have satisfying arcs and for all the good guys remain good throughout season 8 idk what show youve been watching the past 9 years. look at the list posted above of all the fucked up stuff dany has done...GRRM has been setting this up from the start.

longclaw enabled jon to survive hardhome and thus go on to unite the wildlings, houses of the north, the vale, the dorthraki, the unsullied, etc etc etc, which puts into play the events that allow arya to kill the night king. does jon need to kill the night king with longclaw for the azor ahai/lightbringer prophecy to refer to jon and longclaw? or is it enough that without jon and longclaw, the night king would have won?

it is strongly implied that the dagger arya used to kill the night king is in some way connected  to the peice of dragonglass used by the children of the forst to make the night king - so i highly doubt the dagger fits into the lightbringer prophecy at all.

i wonder if all of danys atrocities in essos did not have the same kind of impact on peoples perceptions of her because they were brown skinned foreign savages.

now that she burns a western city full of white people we know and love its now on this whole other level

Nah, she just like to burn shit, it's what Targaryen's do.

People are upset at this episode but to me it's been the most interesting one of the season.   Dany's melt is her arc, that she is full blooded Targaryen, that she was upset her nephew wouldn't get together with her, that she lost Missandei, that Sansa wouldn't kiss her ass, that she wasn't the rightful decendent of the throne.   It was all too much for her to handle.  This has always been about the Starks and there are plenty of them left.

A shame Cersie didn't blow up the city herself when soldiers were coming through.

yeah, although the whole season is rushed, i enjoyed episode 5 quite a bit. episode 4 not so much. i dont think epsidoe 5 was good enough to make up for how shitty episode 4 was, but it was good enough to not be overshadowed by it.

IMO the biggest letdown is the show rejecting the magic/fantasy elements. i refuse to believe GRRM wrote all that buildup, mystery and lore surrounding the bran/night king/three eyed crow storyline just to reveal that bran is the "memory of the world" and the night king wants to kill him to bring an endless night...talk about a shitty stereotypical villain. id call it one dimensional but im not even sure the night king has a whole unfractured dimension to begin with.

we have 9 years of buildup to a battle where a silent shape shifting assassin, magical warging tree god, a queen of dragons, and an undead prophetic warrior king battles the embodiment of death and winter itself - a godlike villain over 8000 years old that has the power to raise the dead, and then it turns out the real threat was a sociopath wino queen and evil jack sparrow? no fucking way.

it seems obvious to me, even looking back on all earlier seasons, that D&D have a serious preference for the political intrigue storylines and have been downplaying the magic elements since the beginning...now that its time to wrap things up their bias against the magic elements is obvious and extremely detrimental to the whole story. i refuse to beleive there will be so little payoff for the bran/night king/three eyed crow stuff in TWOW and ADOS...and im not holding my breath to ever read ADOS...TWOW i think will see release but im not confident we will ever get a satisfactory end to bran's arc or any satisfactory explanation for the white walkers/night king/great other's true motivations, the structure of their society, etc.

wtf were those symbols they made with the bodies? we might never know cause D&D dont like the magic stuff and want to gloss over it.

^^^  agree with pretty much everything you said.  Touche :-)

i think its a pretty great ending to her story thats in line with so many previous horrors GRRM wrought upon us...and i think the reactions that fans are having is the intended reaction...anger. all of her allies on the field are probably pissed. she is killing her own people, innocents, women, children, etc, and now because youve followed this person for 9 years(longer if you are a pre-show book reader...would love to hear dise weigh in more on this thread), thinking she was developing into a just ruler, you get to feel the anger with them.

I didn't care much for Daenerys in the books or the TV series for different reasons. GRRM wrote her character to be increasingly power-thirsty and reckless, so that was no surprise for me. The TV show annoyingly took too long to develop that side of her character, focusing more on love interests IMO. I found Arya's faceless men phase to be kind of boring in the books, a bit more interesting in the TV series; and I may be in the minority but I thought it all tied up nicely eventually with the NK.

I think a lot of viewers expected more when HBO had two years to work on the final season, and a LOT of show fans are upset their theories didn't pan out, but IMO most of the fan theories were pretty saccharine. You know, everyone gets married and has babies, Jon finally wins a battle without having to be rescued (lol) and not at all in step with the GRRM series. There really were no *stars* in the books, anyone could have a high point then fall, or rise up just in time to die. TV show fans definitely were all about JS+Daenerys, and the show leaned that way.

The books are so much better than the TV show. HBO's last two seasons were too condensed and the fan fiction level writing was annoying at times - but at least the TV series has an ending. I've lost any hope that GRRM will ever finish the books, he's all wrapped up in other books and projects.

Was Jon Snow short in the books, too? LOL

TV show fans definitely were all about JS+Daenerys

This shit is worse than Sons of Anarchy after Ireland.

the 997th and 998th lord commander thing kinda makes sense now - ser alliser seems less important to the watch in the books and although i have not gotten there yet, from what i was reading it seems like in the books he is not made acting lord commander when jeor mormont dies but instead shows up during/right before the battle at castle black, and then there is a choosing where jon snow becomes the 998th lord commander...so then jon snow is killed, resurrected, leaves the nights watch, and dolorous edd is given command of the wall making him 999.

then some shit goes down at the end, jon snow takes the black again and becomes the 1000th lord commander of the nights watch, im guessing.

but in the show alliser thorne is acting lord commander for awhile...and since there was no choosing in the show youd have to assume dolorus edd is also just acting lord commander. so either alliser is 998, jon is 999 and edd is 1000, or neither "acting" lord commanders are counted, which makes jon snow 998, and ressurected jon snow is potentially 999. it always seemed like being close to the 1000th lord commander was significant in some way, i wonder if the show changing around storylines has made it impossible to realistically make jon snow the 1000th lord commander of the nights watch - the only way to do that would be to count one acting lord commander but not the other, presumably with no explanation if the shitty writing continues into episode 6, which i expect it will.

allisers storyline between seasons 1 and 3 isq super confusing IMO because they include the part where jeor mormont sends him to KL with a wight's hand to show to joffery, but they skip the part where he comes before the court, is refused an audience by joffery, is mocked by tyrion, and admits the wight's hand rotted on the way from the wall to KL. in the show he just pops back up again with no explanation in season 4.

why do you need a night's watch/wall... when the night king is dead?

Is Bran going to turn into the next night king?

Where are the last 2 books &^%$^%&$@#&%#%^*&*^(&%^!!!!!!!

Enjoy, Tonight!

>Hey everyone. You may have noticed I’ve done minimal posting the last couple of months. If you’ve thought, “he must be up to something,” you’d be right. Those of you who’ve followed me for years know that if you haven’t heard from me in a while it’s not because the Feds have taken me away (ha!), or that I’ve just said “fuckit I’m moving to Monaco.” I tend to go quiet when I’m working on a new project(s). Better (safer) that way. Best they don’t see me coming, if you get my drift. I don’t need to tell you that we are up against a mighty, mighty opponent. And more than one. Trump for sure, and of course an economic system that benefits the few at the expense of the many. But also ourselves, our own mentality that doesn’t understand how Trump will win again if we leave 2020 up to the same people that brought us 2016. I promise you what I’m “up to” is being designed to, in concert with what others are doing, to prevent that from happening again.  But more on that in another post.

I’m writing today about something less earth-shattering but nonetheless symptomatic of the times in which we live. Tonight is the final episode of Game of Thrones (don’t worry there are no real spoilers here). For those of you who have not watched it for these eight seasons, I understand. I watched the first episode — two beheadings, three rapes and a 10-yr old boy being tossed out a tower window — and that was enough punishment for me. I didn’t come back to it for two years when I heard that the gratuitous bait for its male-intended audience had been reduced and that the story lines had become smarter (though no less intense). It turned out to be one of the most brilliant series ever on television.

But you may have heard a lot of people at work or school or online this week upset over the turn the series’ second-to-last episode took last Sunday night. Things did not go the way most Americans had hoped. And I get it. We are living in a dark, dark time. The cold chill of Trump’s winter envelopes us all now, and we are full of despair. Too many were convinced (or hoped) that at least this fantasy we were watching  on TV would relieve us. Give us the ending we desperately need. Remind us that most people are good and that heroes exist. That the boy will get the girl (or the girl will get the girl). That we will all live in peace and prosperity.

But Game of Thrones last week refused to participate in our fantasy, refused to give us a shot of feel-good and instead reminded us that this is not only a dark time, the people we are clinging to to save us from the madness are not necessarily going to do that. Which puts it back on us.

And that’s what made last week’s episode so brilliant. At some point, amidst all the carnage, it must have dawned on some viewers that these monarchs were elected by no one and were, in the end, serving their own interests. That’s what those in power do. Give them a powerful military or a weapon that rains fire from the sky and they will use it to gain more power or to seek their revenge. To hell with the peon masses who now run for their lives. The images, which were straight out of Hiroshima and Dresden, were a reminder that the only time in history that nuclear weapons were unleashed on humanity (on civilians and children!) was done by the “good guys” — us! — the Best Nation on Earth! The Breaker of Chains!

Take last week’s episode for what it was - art imitating life, a reflection of our miserable, inexcusable condition where we seem to hold no power, our lives at the mercy of wealth and white rulers with all their unearned privilege. And when the monarch turns out to not be the monarch what will The People do? Have we had it with the figurative and literal incest in the Leader’s chambers? Will we rise up? Are we still sitting around waiting for the next pretty white boy who’s going to “save” us?

Let’s see what happens tonight.

-Michael Moore

Then let’s see what we all do tomorrow.

Michael Moore completely misses the point as to why its been so shitty lately.

100% wrong.

Its not about disappointment in a character arc.

We always knew Dany wasnt going to sit on the throne.

(And honestly...who really wanted her anyway?)

Its awful writing and ham handed bows handed to the audience that completely betray the beauty  and writing of the books.

And Trump is no Night King or even a Cersei.

He's a symptom.

We need to fix ourselves.

RR Martin compares Trump to Joffrey. But I also appreciate  Michael Moore's interpretation. Sure, Trump as the Knight King leading all the clueless dead works, or even as the Evil Cersei, but I think he was comparing Trump to the Dragon Queen, a madman willing to destroy it all.

 https://www.newsweek.com/game-thrones-author-george-rr-martin-called-tru...

Everyone's been comparing Trump to Joffrey since Jan '17.

We had a lot of discussion about Tyrion as Targaryen years ago when there were granular discussions about the books

Theres a lot of evidence in the books to support it.

Honestly, I don't even care what they do tonight.

Looking much more forward to Martin's next installment for the proper finish to the series.

It's going to be a long wait. And yes, we know you knew that already.

"No, THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING are not finished. DREAM is not even begun; I am not going to start writing volume seven until I finish volume six."  -RR Martin

>>>>>>>>>   Let's see what happens tonight.

Ba HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA .......

BwaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!

and then it was over.....

it was a fun ride...

but like I said when I started this thread.....

"Hoping the Book Winds of Winter will hit right after the final episode airs...."

hoping sooner than later

the shows never felt right after it past the books.... hell since they never included Lady StoneHeart in the show. Cathryn Stark resurrected

from that point forward it's been a creature of it's own.... IMHO, fingers crossed for the next book coming out SOON!!!

was the kid who was too old to be breast fed at that one gathering? he looked kind of familiar

That SHIT ?...

...was an absolute Massacre!!!

slaughtering, abandoning a/o butchering every major character arc & story line that made the show great.

anyone who can't see that clearly is a shameless fanboy/girl that would blindly stroke the show regardless of quality.. no matter what they did.

most predictable sickeningly CHEEZY writing i've eveer witnessed..

Any one of you folks could have scripted it better. No joke.

Every single Leak played out VERBATIM.

this was the Worst. Case. Nightmare.

John being a Targaryen.... Meant Literally Absolutely NOTHING...

They botched the FUCK out of the most seminal critically crucial plot thread of the entire Series going back to 1996.

Drogon just stared at the man that just murdered his mother for a minute.. and was like ... "Meh... i'll just melt this here throne down, scoop up mee mom and be on my way if it's all the same to you."

#TRASH

god Damn this just stinks & REEKS to high heaven like rancid fermented HOT GARBAGE!!

Bwahahahahahaha!!!!

Hope Disney enjoys Benioff & Weiss ruining Star Wars some more..

That will be something to behold.

>>>was the kid who was too old to be breast fed at that one gathering? he looked kind of familiar

Bingo!

One executive producer told Entertinment Tonight:

"However you feel about the final episodes of this show I don’t think anybody can ever accuse us of taking the easy way out."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!

"the show became unrecognizable. It was hacky; it was cliched. Every character left standing received a saccharine coda. Closure is one thing, but pandering is entirely another."

Just. Awful.

It was like the ending of a John Landis movie, but instead of a freezeframe of the character and a written blurb about their future, we see a saccharine little vignette of them going forward.

"Flounder continued searching and became king of the frontier....Dday followed his heart with the free people where he always belonged......Katy stayed true to the North and stood her ground as her people expected....."

There was only one sure bet about the last episode: whatever they did, a lot of people would be very unhappy about it. I think that they met that mark.

sweet robin will make a wonderful lord, sucking at the tit of the Aerie while he makes people fly through the moon door.

I thought it started fine, had me for half the show and then the cheese started dripping in.   I'm not as upset as most will be but it's probably not a season I will ever watch again.

Clearly, the only acceptable ending would have been the reveal that it's all been a book Omar Little has been reading to tighten his machiavellian grip on the corner.

This was all about the Starks, full circle.

I was fine with it.

I read the Jon / Dragon thing as the dragon’s recognition that he was the true king. Yeah, he killed their mom, but it was his right. Then, through ESP, he told the dragon to symbolically melt the Iron Throne and fly away forever.

If Bran "the Broken" was a zoner, he'd be a shoe in for Douche of the Year.  His lines were by far the worst last night.

Vacantly stare at everyone while speaking in riddles, Bran would make an excellent deadhead.

if they had to send jon to the wall to appease greyworm and the unsullied, why did he still have to go to the wall after the unsullied left???

if greyowrm was killing lannister soldiers in the streets with glee, why would he have left jon alive after he killed danerys?

drogon did not have any kind of personality for the whole series, now we are supposed to just accept he is intelligent enough to recognize the iron throne as the seat of power in westeros, understand what a state is, understand what power is, and understand that this has been dany's goal?

what happened to the dothraki? someone killed ther khalessi and they just say "oh ok no big deal cya later"

why is bronn, who had to have tyrion explain to him how debts work in season 2, and at least in the books is illiterate, now master of coin for all of westeros?

assuming that at least many months elapsed between jongoing to KL and returning to the wall, what the hell was tormund and the wildlings doing at the wall that whole time?

why is the unsullied going to naath? i think we are supposed to assume they are going to free slave cities - but naath is not a slave city...it is a free state that is often attacked by slavers.

wouldnt it have been an obvious idea for a few white walkers to remain at that crazy ice castle with crasters last son to continue the white walker line? guess not.

why did KL look like a sunny desert right before the battle but it was snowing afterwards?

how is tyrion not in the book? the entire conflict started when cat took him prisioner. he was the hand of the king during the blackwater. he killed the most powerful man in westeros. just as a callback to varys telling him the history books would not mention him? how can you tell the story without mentioning him?

although, out of all of these questions, my biggest question is WHAT THE FUCK???

>>> why is bronn, who had to have tyrion explain to him how debts work in season 2, and at least in the books is illiterate, now master of coin for all of westeros?

The master of coin came with the don't kill Tyrion deal for Highgarden (house of Tyrell) which controlled master of coin and ships.

Missundei and greyworm had plans to retire in Naath.

Greyworm didn't killed JS because it wasn't an order.

neither was throwing a spear through the chest of a man who just surrendered because he was wearing the colors of someone who opposed dany. his orders before the battle were to stop the attack when the bells sounded.

then someone kills dany and he just says "oh ok right this way sir your cell is over here"

The master of coin came with the don't kill Tyrion deal for Highgarden (house of Tyrell) which controlled master of coin and ships.

highgarden is not associated with master of ships or coin, simply tommen/cersei named mace tyrell to these positions as part of her plan to get him out of the city on a trip to the iron bank while she prepared to blow up the sept.

master of coin is the lowest position on the council "its a grubby job, why not let a grubby man do it?" was said of littlefinger early in the series.

those titles were more meaningless gestures to appease mace tyrell - he wanted to serve provisionally as hand of the king and cersei knew giving him two titles, although mostly meaningless, would appeal to his vanity and leave the real seat of power open for herself.

I'm telling you man, shit makes total sense if you don't think about it.

the best part of last nights episode was the surprise westworld trailer

Lol, like Zang said earlier, bring on Deadwood!

>>his orders before the battle were to stop the attack when the bells sounded.

Rewatch that scene; Dany doesn't agree to it. She's feeling the need for vengeance too strongly already and so is Grey Worm. She shoots him a look that says let's go (kill them all). He took it as a silent order in that scene, per my recollection. They heard him out but never agreed to Tyrion's plan for mercy.

This still doesn't explain Torqo Nudo letting Snow go, but I took that as more of a matter of respect for military authority and a final realization that there was no place in Westeros for the Unsullied. It was time for them to (let it) go.

How about the Dothraki though? So much left unsaid in these final 6...it was all kind of sad, rushed, inevitable, sweet but too short. Really hope to read those last two books some day. As good as the TV series was, the books are so much better.

So these two guys wanted to pad the resume for their movie career to get the Star Wars contract.

Hence the change to these semi movie episodes.

Fail.

T: We'd love to make you king, but there is no throne.

B: That's ok I brought my own

Thought that Show did a pretty solid job the first couple of seasons.  The problem was that Martin has not finished the series (started in '96) but told the guys in charge of the TV show how the show had to end (e.g., Jon killing Dany).  One of the problems was the sudden transformation from awesome military leader Dany to some deranged person that kills a million innocent people in the span of one episode.

But if you like your fantasy with a touch of violence and some awesome wit - and want to read about an imp that puts Tyrion to shame - look no further than Joe Abercrombie's - Sand dan Glokta.  His 'first law' trilogy is much better written and pleasurable than the past couple of fire and ice books by Martin.

Michael Moore once again displays his nonsensical idiocy.

They should have just had Bob Newhart wake up and say that they whole thing was a dream he had.

I guess I wasnt the only one.

This thread was more entertaining than the series.

Not having HBO I never watched the show all through the years and just heard people babbling about it from afar (such as this thread) but for a couple of reasons I bought HBO over the summer, and because I had lots of down time the last few weeks I began late night binge watching this "epic" television series I'd heard so much about.

I just watched the final three episodes tonight. Thoughts...

If I had to watch this laborious thing on time over so many years I would never have stayed with it.

This thing was a soap opera from the beginning, and only became more obviously one in story & production as the seasons wore on.

To enjoy a fantasy story such as this, one needs to suspend realistic reality, which is fine, but damn there were many stretches here that were WAY beyond suspension (simply bad, foolish, lazy writing).

(And most difficult to admit) after having finally finished this endless series tonight I recalled this thread, searched it out and read through it tonight for the first time. In so doing, I have to sadly admit that for probably the first time I actually read some of "Liam Meyer's" posts, and good lord, I agree with almost everything that sock is saying.

How bad can the show be if THAT'S true?

Final thoughts...

Technical, visual effects outstanding. Everything else, soap opera through & through.

All My Children is the same thing without the gore and boobs, otherwise just as good//bad and ultimately cut from the same cloth.

Tell us how you really feel, Tom.
