GQP Primary Debate tonight

Yeah, Fox is desperate.  But why even bother.  Trump will be the GOP nominee, even if he is behind bars.   But they could still use the debate as sort of an episode of the Apprentice where Trump gathers them all in the boardroom afterwards, critiques their performances, and fires the losers.  That is the reality of the modern Republican party.

Won't get near it. Might go play an open mic, with my reworked version of "The Times, They Are A Changin' " for one song.

Perhaps the most dramatic moment came when candidates were asked who would support Mr. Trump if he is convicted but still nominated. All but Asa Hutchinson raised their hands — although Chris Christie claimed he was wagging his finger.

I watched the opening credits, had the angry armageddon voice, typical right wing scary images, even a country song...  I lasted about 30 seconds into Derantis's opening defacation.  Off goes the TV.

Turned it back on for the last hour, at that point the moderaters had no control over the rabid pitbulls, as they attacked each other.  I found that much more palatable, a few good cheap shots, derka derk, derk, derk a derk.  The crowd royally boooed anything anti drump.

I didn't watch a second of it, but from what I read about the different candidates comments, Nikki Haley sounded like the most sane alternative.  She acknowledged that climate change is real, that passing a nationwide abortion ban is unlikely, expressed her support for Ukraine and resistance to Putin, supported Pence's actions on January 6th, and displayed her foreign policy experience while making Ramaswamy look like the dilletante he is.  She displayed a knack for realpolitik leadership, which is an attractive alternative to blindly rigid ideological thinking.  If the GOP and their conservative base could pull their collective heads out of their asses, a much younger female candidate, with both domestic and foreign political and policy experience, and an ability to understand how to compromise, could bring a serious challenge to an 80 year old opponent with his own set of flaws.  She did a good job of setting herself apart.

I also didn't watch it, but have seen a couple clips on the news, and Haley was also quick to raise her hand when asked the question about supporting Trump if he is convicted. Her sanity, if she has any, is only relative to that of her peers, and not all that sane by more conventional standards.

All part of her realpolitik approach.  To break from backing Trump is to alienate her from the majority of the GOP base, and would also remove her from being considered as his VP (which could be another route to the presidency if he croaks out).  

That doesn't make her sane though. It just shows that she's pragmatic and willing to pander to the GOP base, and its unwavering support for the madman.

At the very least, she's cunning.  Who's a saner and more realistic alternative from the GOP at this point?

Anyone of them would be committing political death by raising their hand. They are all going to sit back and let the justice department be the villain, and take out Trump.

I watched and thought Haley had a strong showing. Pence also stood out but, for what he stood out for will get him the hook, from the party. The business guy was an idiot but the republicans seem to like idiots these days. Desantis was a bull in the China Shop, loud, not actually answering the questions, but again the base loves that shit. Who knows 

If I were trump, as the presumptive nominee I would announce a special/emergency season of the apprentice (starting now), and declare this the only method he will be using to select a vp running mate.

As for sane, Asa Hutchinson is the only one who's come out against Trump (Christie wavered when asked last night), which of course rules him out as realistic.

I can just see Trump appearing on a video screen at beginning of the next debate where he says he is too busy Making America Great Again to join in person but "It will be an amazing debate and you all are very special people.  See you in boardroom."

all of this is the evolution of the tea party split in the Republican Party ages ago. In the evolution process they took on the Q-tribe, and conspiracy folks, and along the way the white supremacy secret part of the party became more public and unlike the 60's the Angelicas are all right with that now. Rhino's are now what used to be the fiscal conservatives and are now evil.
