Hello Zoner Grammarians,
I've been researching Noun Cases, and I wonder what the general knowledge is on the topic.
I'll say this: we don't need to know about them in English, and I doubt many people do know much.
If they do, it's because they've studied languages that use them.
What do you know?

Hi Floops, how is the book doing?
In the sentence above is "the book" a common noun in Nominative case?

I have many books I'm working
Hey, China. I have many books I'm working on. This is one of them.
I guess book would be in the nominative case, if we had case markings to show the difference.
How do you know that subjects are in the nominative?

In this case the common noun
In this case the common noun book is the subject of the verb doing. It is nominative because it is the subject of the verb.

A simple explanation.
A simple explanation:
http://www.english-for-students.com/Noun-Cases.html
I never taught above middle school level so I never tied the case categories to the initial POS definitions. I was somewhat vilified by teaching "grammar in isolation" anyway but I got away with it/justified it by claiming gifted class appropriateness.
Same with diagramming. I justified it by playing the "visual learning style" card.

I really have no idea what
I really have no idea what you're talking about, Aiq. What is a POS definitions, a grammar in isolation, diagramming, and visual learning style? I think I'm missing out on a lot.
As for the link, the info is correct, except we don't use case endings, so we really don't have cases of nouns. A noun is spelled the same whether it's a subject or an object.

Learning styles
Learning styles
Diagramming:
Diagramming fits the visual learning style.
POS: Parts of speech, as the definitions of case are derived from those.
Teaching grammar alone or in isolation was on the outs. Whole language was in and somehow students were supposed to discover grammar. I taught grammar hard and in isolation.

I think AIQ is talking
I think AIQ is talking pedagogy floops, justifying his/her teaching style with admin to teach how you want, using whatever tools you want, instead of the Piece of Shit common core standard definitions and methods. My guess at least.

Dead on, fly.
Dead on, fly.
Common core not so bad in and of itself. We are the only first world country without standardized curriculum. CC tries to address that
I say free the teacher to get to those goals.
Which is what I did for 20 years.
When Bob McDonald screwed VA teachers with never ending evaluation justified by constant testing it was time for aiq to retire
That and being an old fuck.
