Grateful Dead ’83 MSG to Lake Placid Mini Movie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKzmhcpZtkM

I created an Aerial mini movie from New York City up to the upper New York State Adirondack region and Lake Placid, in which you are continuously in-flight, without touching down for over an hour a thirty- minutes and end up safely back in New York City. All this, while enjoying immensely never heard-like before, remastered versions of the Grateful Dead’s legendary performances at Madison Square Garden and Olympic Arena in Lake Placid New York in October of 1983.

The journey begins on an absolutely beautiful crisp night cruising through Manhattan night.

What's on Tap:

Jack Straw - October 11th, 1983

Loser - October 11th, 1983

China Cat Sunflower {segues into I Know You Rider} October 11th, 1983

Saint Stephen {Monumental Moment: Not performed in four years and retired from the band's repertoire 3 weeks later} October 11th, 1983

Johnny B. Goode - October 11th, 1983 Bird Song - October 17th, 1983

The Wheel - October 17th, 1983 Revolution # 9 - October 17th, 1983

To Lay Me Down - October 17th, 1983

Surgaree - October 17th, 1983

Revolution #9 - October 17th, 1983

With all due respect, using phases like "immensely never heard-like before, remastered versions" are disingenuous, at best. There are plenty of A+ audio sources for these shows.

I realize you put a lot of time into these, but aren't these like edited (read: partial) shows with audio that is readily available with NO video of the band's actual performance?

The video of being "continuously in-flight, without touching down for over an hour a thirty- minutes and end up safely back in New York City" is irrelevant to the actual concert other than both being within the borders of the State of New York.

>>With all due respect, using phases like "immensely never heard-like before, remastered versions" are disingenuous, at best. There are plenty of A+ audio sources for these shows.

Not sure really sure what you are tying to express. But appreciate the post.

Let me take the time to share a little about me -

I know president of Warner Brother Records for 8 months and I know the "exact" budget they are working with...

There is no one more qualified to be doing this other then me.

The 10.11.1983 soundboard remaster (and digitization) restoration is  well beyond what they or anyone you know is possible of.

Grateful Dead productions had a full 24 hours to go to bat and they chose the Aud version of Sugaree as what they copyright and steered clear of what I put in 10.11.1983

Word is they want me to re-do the Sugaree soundboard and replace the aud.

I am a fully certified audio engineer with significant production credits, that went to NY Tech film school and have done interviews with Pro-sound News and Mix Magazine

I was at the forefront of the design of the Space Shuttle, PCs as we know it, the internet as we now know it, MPEG, Semiconductor design, Smart Phones CPus etcc

I was trading dead tapes on Telex in 1990....

I am friends with Steven Quin Brancard (the producer of America Beauty and Working Man's Dead) and met and had a private one-on-one performance of Sugare on 2/14/81 by Jerry Garcia.

Jerry knew me +

I will let you know ASAP, if there is anyone near as qualified as me to do what I have done

This is a film-movie with full legal representation,

The YouTube link for this journey is being tracked by Home Land Security.

Warner Brother Records has given me the rights on all but the Sugaree finale re-master as of 2PM today.

It a new High Deff Grateful Dead movie- Not a video.

The total size is 50.2gb

Peace

Pass.

All I want to know is the relevance of (someone else's) drone footage cobbled together with bits of (someone else's) live art?

LOL. Wow, glad I didn't click that link.

I shared. Did what I could..

I have no problem if the admin pulled this thread.

I am paying for school books, a Drone and a dinner.

But will share a toast with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and her staff. The last 2 weeks were as big for NY as it was for the Garcia Estate.

New Yorkers have been laying low since 9/11.

No more.

Bring it!

Thank you. It all makes sense now.

Who doesn’t this guy know?

Jerry preformed him a private Sugaree.

He invented Apples.

Bluelight I am a fan of your videos keep em coming! I'm jamming the Mule show you sent me as I type from 2017 Great South Bay Music Festival.

Your contributions are appreciated by this Zoner and fellow New Yorker who now lives in America's Finest City AKA San Diego for sure! .

a guy can't produce a labor of love without being shit on around here. simply amazing yet predictable

Hillman this isn’t some labor of love pet project.  This is an official Warner Brothers movie that is being released on YouTube and Homeland Security is monitoring.

Give the guy some credit.

I agree, Hillman. It's sad; a bunch of cranky people who find something uplifting(?) in putting other people down.

Is Home Land Security different than Homeland Security?

and I am my own grandfather

That was a cranky post, Judit.

I applaud the efforts of Charlie Miller for his re-mastered soundboards, Hunter Seamons for his matrix mixes (and voodoonola for curating all the fine GD videos) . All take a similar amount of time, energy and expertise to their craft. I look forward to any of their new "releases" and typically value the upgrade.

I was asking bluelight what the connection was. A few select tracks upgraded with some scenic video (film!) is a novelty, and I'm glad you and others like it. It's just not what I would consider an upgrade.

Bring it, Bluelight, bring it!

>>>Bring it, Bluelight, bring it!

I actually did in a big way. I highly suggest you be really really nice to the the web masters of this "the only social media site you visit".

You will have some extra web  time on your hands - here. For the time being while you can get on the web..

Your harassment against me is legendary and has been going on for a while.

Not sure you are aware of this, but there are serious consequences by not adhering to all the terms and agreements you pointed and clicked to get your self on the internet.

The party is over and your direct attacks against me have just stopped,

Bring it Ateix. Bring it

Are you planning on getting the NSA involved here, Bluelight?

Are you trying t be funny of just trying to antagonize me?

Mark -?-!

Wierdro ^

Bring it to Rededit ^

bye bye ateix

>> Are you trying t be funny of just trying to antagonize me?

I dunno. Does one of things lead to me being waterboarded in some black site shithole in Syria?

Blielight, I respectfully have a question. Was the valentine's day mano y mano sugaree a long played out scorcher or a wam bam thank you man hit and run?

Oh stop, don't give me him lol^

>>minute 24 the footage goes black for twenty seconds then video of a drone taking off begins

Good call

Jerry is singing "gonna miss my baby when I'm gone"  I left it to fade to black.

Yes, we see that and few take offs begin. There is an almost- landing towards the end where some dirt is kicked up. I kept that, so some one like you can see the dynamics and may want consider this as a hobby.. in the future.

I am modular about this and ready, willing, and able to edit out anything, or anybody and replace then with unlimited footage {HD} I have - oh whales breaching -or--the left breast Gator Tattoo of Marcia Ball in place instead.

The special person here is the young very gifted man who was bold enough and proud enough to grab the bull by the horns and shoot the most stunning night footage I have ever seen, restricted air-space. School Books & a new Drone for this lad. Its his footage that starts this all off.

The St. Stephen windsurfer owns the other half. Guy is amazing.  He really is the only human in it. But not really. More God like. Amazing

That is far north as we flew^

I'm a little bit confused with the Warner Bros situation, Bluelight. I thought all GD songs and performances are administered by Rhino these days.

I got to warm up for Marcia Ball once (real sweetheart), so I'll vote for the tattoo!

>>Blielight, I respectfully have a question. Was the valentine's day mano y mano sugaree a long played out scorcher or a wam bam thank you man hit and run?

I was with my friend Bob (same Buddy and wifey that drove me up to Lake Placid).

Steve let us in early

Started off on the major scale, going up and done and slowly working his way into a full scorcher mode for 10 minutes.

The more we smoked, the more he wanted to show off. Peeking down at us through his glasses. Very comfortable with us just staring & smoking our pot

It was Valentines Day...

The doors opened and he bolted. Came right a few seconds later and began the song before anyone had a chance to sit.

The tape that circulates (I just downloaded) again I think is missing the first few notes and its from up in the balcony.

Ed from the PZ was also at the show and spoke about.

Steve Parrish is the man and the mini movie is dedicated to Robert Hunter, the band, Steve and you all.

Jerry loved us Dead Heads -

Figured out the answer to my question above. I didn't know that Rhino is owned by WB.

Carry on.

>>I'm a little bit confused with the Warner Bros situation, Bluelight. I thought all GD songs and performances are administered by Rhino these days.

Well then let me spell this out for you. Please digest what I am telling you as I will not cover again - and if you are the music biz- it's kind of silly. Bu here goes.

Tony - Rhino is part the WMG-

I am in contact CEO Kevin Gore of WMG who all the folks at Rhino report to. As well as the Manager of Grateful Dead Properties and all the copyright folks on behalf of Jerry Garcia's music and the Grateful Dead.

Peace -

As you can see in my post right before yours, Bluelight, I was able to find out the same. Although I often do business with labels, I have never done any work for WB in any capacity, thus my lack of due diligence on them. A little web searching and it all became clear. Thank you for taking the time to answer me though. I really was confused about that when I originally posted.

And peace to you.

>> Who doesn’t this guy know?

Based on his demeanor I'm gonna go out on a limb and say at least one estranged wife.

>>>Well then let me spell this out for you. Please digest what I am telling you as I will not cover again

Is this an inopportune time to request a friendly tl;dr on that monster from 10:26, Bluelight?

This is why I never post my movies here

sorry BL

Thanks Tony. Sorry

Is anyone entertained by this guy

I know and am in contact with Steve Huffman the CEO Of Reddit for kicks and giggles.

Today, actually. He sent out a new disclaimer today, taking my advise. {Read it}

It nice and long. You guys may want to go back there and get some more in.

I just got a message by way of carrier pigeon that my reddit account is being shut down.

What have you done, Bluelight?

I bet that r/pigeon had emo bangs.

>>>This is why I never post my movies here

Thank you. I felt the magnitude and power and magic was not in my hands to make that call.

The Jack Straw in the NYC night..

In Loser when Jerry sings the line "Last Fair Deal in the Country" the two beautiful horses embrace..

By the time you hit Moose River and Rider kicks in..

The entire Wind Surfing St. Stephen sequence..

Finally, Jerry starts singing To Lay Me Down the drone's eye is heading towards the only cemetery in the entire flick and flies away.

If I planned that shit I could bitch..

It took 36 hours to upload and at 4:30 am I realized that us New Yorkers have fucking been hiding the beauty of our city (rightfully so)

I took one for the team....

my youtube channel's just a bunch of mining crap, shot thru a shitty camera, with lots of mistakes, and dirt and rocks and shit...   well, don't think any of the bear scat has actually made it yet, but I do have chipmunks stealing cheetos in Montana!  Little bastards!

I like seeing Manhattan overhead but the switch back and forth from night to day to night was too fast and annoying. put the day shots together and the night shots after would be better.

I bet its pretty cool. You have good eye.^

The drones are great for Geological Surveying.

Maybe you can get one and right it off as a business expense?

if you could set it up with Lidar, that would be amazing

>> put the day shots together and the night shots after would be better

Yes I see, thanks. Its faced paced and rocking.  We are out NYC in a jiffy, hang in there.

Night footage like that is rare. But if I have to pul it out, I will. Thank you sir

The higher the elevation, the slower and more kicked back things are. Bird Song is cool and To Lay Me Down most of the movie..

My hope is that this can be a learning moment for everyone and we can go stronger as a Viva community.  Peace and irations to all.

Lollol

Bluelight - My wife and I really enjoy the projects you've put together for all of us.

This one though, is our favorite.

The amount of passion you have shown is truly felt.

Thank you!

>> This one though, is our favorite.

Mine, too.

For what it’s worth I enjoyed the little bit of the video I saw.

Just not not as much as the weird non sequiturs, threats, and name dropping.

Keep doing you Bluelight.

I think that's the coolest thing that could be posted really. Timmy too^.

>>The amount of passion you have shown is truly felt.

Thank you so much.

Good thing it was not announced that Phil was going sing that night and that song was to be Revolution or the NY State Trooper held up traffic would have been worse then it already was.

Bluelight...Bluelight... Bluelight....

I picture you pulling week-long all-nighters in a darkened editing suite in some NY studio, neurotically and obsessively syncing up old audio that someones else recorded, with video that someone else shot, doing lines of bad coke off the console, muttering to yourself between gritted teeth, how this is the greatest art any deadheads have ever witnessed, while simultaneously trying to reach your old college roommate in LA  (who used to be a successful record producer in pre-digital times who politely takes your calls and then sets the phone down next to him while he is busy being serviced by his over-priced escort), while you manically rant into the phone, that you, and only you, deserve to have the only high-definition Dead montage on YouTube with an "officially sanctioned" soundtrack.

If you are going to be an artist instead of a tech savant, it's time to act like an artist.

Just make your art and put it out there and shut up about it.

Some people might like it. Some people might not. Some people will  be indifferent. It's not your "job" to react to how the audience reacts to your (hard) work.

Many artists go thru the "justification stage." But you will find the creative process becomes less of a struggle when you lose the ego attached to how talented you are and how good you think your work is and how exceptional and unique this work is --- in other words, stop taking yourself and your art so seriously. Relax. And go make more art.

As long as you are enjoying yourself and being personally fulfilled -- that's all that really matters.

How dare you write such a reasoned, thoughtful, and well-intentioned while simultaneously humorous response, Alan?

How fucking dare you?

Glad to be of service....Listen, I was the guy who invented electricity (ok....actually I worked for him) and any more lip from you and I'll call him and he will pull the plug on your entire town based on my say-so.... so no more posting GIFs on Viva -- they give me seizures

Truth Alan...   sometimes those negative reactions are my greatest stories from a non-storied (wannabe) career...    doing a jazz trio, and having 3 live shells in the guitar case set out for tips. Or comments at an acid fueled party like, "they sound just like the Grateful Dead, I HATE the Grateful Dead",  or of the fusion band, "I hate your music, but you play it very well",  and the truer disasters I'll save for another time.

I have to admit, the pre-digital age was more fun, the post digital age way more interesting, even fascinating!

Great work Bluelight, keep it up, and you've got my support!  But if I dive into your work, you'll get criticism too...   but have fun, and don't take yourself (or others) too seriously

We're all just bozos on the bus

I feel like this has been a healing thread for the group.  Though there will still be those who to try to divide us.  I think ya’ll know what 6roup I’m talking about. All we can do is continue to encourage them to participate positively. Come on in and join in the healing 6uys.  We’re learning how to laugh at ourselves.  It’s okay if you have low t, or poor fashion sense, or are constantly wrong.  You’re still valued members of the community.

Yeah ^

>>I have to admit, the pre-digital age was more fun, the post digital age way more interesting, even fascinating!

When the digital Gods have to intervene its quite cool.

Gentleman, I'm sorry if I sounded anti-drone video. Not intended.

Honestly, It gives me a little vertigo. I mean, what am I ... Mary Poppins flying to a Dead show?  George Jetson in his little mini-air scooter? A dead spirit?  A Google map cursor?  Personally I like the old-school fractal kaleidoscope stuff on my WinAmp 98, but I do appreciate the time and effort that resulted in a very high-quality vid. I do.

I certainly didn't mean to sound harsh, but there's nothing worse than a whiny artist  (well, ticks are worse). So anyway.. the lesson is, make art and put it out there and fuck what people think and quit being whiny and go make a better one and maybe next time you will expand the creative process to include more original source material so you don't have to spend so time dicking around with the "legal" stuff and have more time to make more art!

[I'm on cold medication. I rarely take it but my nose is running like a DelFest derecho (that's a real weather term...a kind of mini-tornado). It gives ya a wierd buzz. I'm going back to sleep now.]

We like reading your stuff Alan, bigly.

The Wind Surfing Sequence with Jam>St Stephen starts at the 26:24 point.

>>Honestly, It gives me a little vertigo.

I had problems going to sleep. Going forward and flying around is something I seem to be doing any way.

Landing makes me want to barf.

Good tunes up in there OP. There is just a certain something something about '83. Band on the run.

Well put Tats.

Fun Fact: Back in college I worked at a state of the art recording studio, called Longview Farms, located on a working farm in central Mass. It was one of the first modern studios where the artists could live and relax, while working. Packed with the latest analog gear. Being close to Boston, it was the home base for the J Geils band.

I was hired as the night manager - which means I had to show up after dinner and work through the night until the first staff arrived up in the morning. My first job was washing the pots and pans left over from the in-house chef. Then I went over to the studio and helped prepare for the night's recording session if there was one. During the session I was the go-fer. As the session was winding gown, I had to hurry over to the rec room and prepare it -- make sure it was clean and the bar was stocked (I remember it had one of the first big screen projection Novabeam TVs available) and some pin ball machines. If there was no recording going on, I would work on some project -- setting up new equipment or something. Or just bullshit with the musicians. making sure they were happy.

When the musicians finally went to sleep, I became the janitor, which means I had the run of the whole place by myself. I looked forward to cleaning up the studios because I could scavenge and claim whatever powder and weed was left around. I was trusted enough to operate some of the equipment, so I brought in my Dead tapes to play over the studio monitors while I wound cables, put away instruments, and vacuumed. Cool job.

The barn on the property which housed the B studio, was the tallest structure in that part of the state and I used to climb up to the cupola in the middle of the night and puff and eat the Pepperidge Farm cookies that I stole from the food locker (they were a new delicacy back then). Being a starving college student, I may or may not have liberated prime cuts of meat and other goodies from the food locker to share with my roommates.

One day, while I was exploring the tape vault, I ran across a box of 2 inch master tape labeled Wake of the Flood outtakes. I don't know how it got there, since this was about 5 or 6 years after that album was released. To this day I'm pissed at myself that I never dubbed a copy, which I could have done with the help of the recording engineer (as I wasn't allowed to work the Studer reel to reel machines).

My final job of the "day" was to build a fire so that there would be a roaring blaze when the first people awoke. Then I could go home, which meant back to class after working all night and then often waiting in line at the gas station since the entire country was having a gas shortage. Needless to say, I couldn't keep this schedule up for long, so I had to quit, even though I was on track to be the engineer's assistant. If I had stayed, my life certainly would have been much different.

While I was there I watched (among others) Path Metheny and Lyle Mays record the main tracks for American Garage (mostly in single takes). Sadly for me, shortly after I left, the Rolling Stones used the facility to launch their 1981 tour with a stealth show at SIr Morgan's Cove in Worchester, a local 300 person dive bar located near the college.

That’s a cool story Alan, no way I could have kept up that schedule!

This is fascinating.

I'm talking about the chest beating, name dropping, defensiveness, vague threats and unhinged responses like the one to tony over a really simple and measured question.

>>The creator's demeanor is too offputting and the his whole tone lately gives one the "off meds" vibe.

You know, I never read a word you say; but the meds comment caught my attention -

The film was not produced in any way to entertain people who are nasty and clearly do not like me.

It was produced that way & today ---no amount of money offered to me to commercialize my movies is acceptable.

You know, you would have watched or attempted to, you would have viewed a private movie, that's sole intention was avoid people like you.

I was at 9/14/82 & 9/15./82 & had the time of my life there. I do not like you and you claim to live in Charlottesville Va.

It was tuff making this one, just knowing you claim to live there.

The film above was made for New Yorkers who have been pinned on the mat since 9/11.

Jeeeeeze, I post a cool story, which I rarely do, and the crazy takes over (or maybe it was never gone).

I'm sorry, but I can't help but picture the comic book guy from the Simpsons when I read these recent Bluelight posts. No offense dude but I don't even understand what you are talking about sometimes. You do make quality vids, I'll give you that. But you may want to go hang out in the park - get some fresh air.  Too much time in any recording studio/editing booth will drive a man bonkers -- it's probably the artificial lighting and sound dampening.

I'm outta this thread and heading over to a real art thread -- wanna see how the stone guitar turned out?

Ateix- Was the 9/11 New City disaster a fun experience for you to witness.
