Grateful Dead Feb 9 1969 - any info?

Forums:

So we went to see Steve Winwood at the Lyric Theater in Baltimore last night and was reminded that the Dead played there on a Sunday in 1969. But there is practically nothing known about this engagement except from a newspaper ad: Two shows -- one at 330 and one at 730. Opened for the Chambers Brothers. Put on by Philly's Electric Company. The band  was coming from Pittsburg (cassette tape master credited to Bear) then headed to the Fillmore East, where they opened for Janis on the 11th.

Anyone out there attend?

No but here is a shot from Worcester 1969

My copy of DeadBase X has no setlists but agrees with your show start-time info.

"Tickets $4.00, $5.00, $6.00."

"First Baltimore Rock Festival".

Nice boots on Garcia,  According to wiki weather a Nor Easter had just hit the northeast.

Who remembered that the Chambers Brothers were so psychedelic?

Hit the 17 minute mark (of the 30 min song) and it seems they held on to some leftovers from the Dead gig.

Spike - where did that Worchester pic come from? Back in the seventies at Clark Univ I saw a bunch of b&w photos of that day and night. Included was Pigpen on a trike motorcycle on campus and Garcia shooting something nefarious out of a water gun. It was Spree day at Clark and the second time the band played Atwood Hall -- the first time in 68 they blew the fuses out.. I have been looking for those pics ever since.

There's a lot of great stories from those show, most notably that Roland Kirk pulled on gun on everyone cause he wanted to headline.

Perhaps Clark or WPI as the show location.  Also had a number of movies theaters back then like Family, Warner, Capital, Plymouth. Elm St, Olympia, Lois Poli. Royal, Strand.  Don't know.

Cool Tony Iommi on Guitar!
