Has anyone watched the documentary about the recording of We Are The World just released on Netflix? Its a pretty amazing documentary about the recording of the song. I highly recommend it no matter how sappy you might think the song is.
I watched it, mentioned it in the "What Are You Watching" thread. So good. Amazingly good. (I was really moved, needed a lot of Kleenex.) I highly recommend it, too.
Watched it early this morning. I liked the backstory, much i didn't know. The best part, imo, is when Waylon Jennings basically said, F This, and walked out in the middle of it...lol. Classic!!! god bless Waylon, Willie and Johnny!
Lance, without giving up too many details, this song was recorded in the span of one entire night - morning, and how Quincy Jones made that happen. Very much worth the time to watch.
My problem with We Are The World is SUNY New Paltz Class of 85 walked graduation to We Are The World instead of Pomp And Circumstance which I was not happy about.
Watched this last night and agree it's a worthwhile watch. Prince's absence aside (which was the miss of the night IMO), other interesting coverage involved the AMAs. Did they really offer awards titled "best black male" and "best black album" 1985 wasn't that long ago.

They certainly did! And I hate to break the news to you, but 1985 was nearly 40 years ago, which is -in fact- quite a LONG time ago!!
For instance, only 20 years before 1985 was 1965 - in 1965 police brutally beat and attacked civil rights marchers between Selma and Montgomery. Later in 1965 President Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which prevented the use of literacy tests as a voting requirement.
20 years before that (or 40 years before 1985) was the winter/spring of 1945 in which the Third Reich was heading towards military defeat and the SS was organizing death marches of prisoners out of the soon to be captured death camps.
In conclusion, 40 years is a helluva long time and incredible changes generally occur in those time spaces.
