Guitar Pedal Stuff

Forums:

Well, this just went on the top of the don't need but really want list.

Pretty sure I've got a $100 Guitar Center gift card somewhere too.

Anybody else eyeing anything or have any new toys?

Oh I'm getting one of those! Is it for sale yet?

I like it

I just did a lot of research and bought an Eventide Timeline. Dual delay so it can create some sweet modulation.

Got an open box from MF for $280. Best pedal I've bought in many years.

Just grabbed these 5 pedals off my friend for a cool 150 bucks.  Haven't had a chance to play around with them yet, though.

Nice score Siobud!  That Full drive is worth $100 by itself.

^ Exactly.

I'm a n00b to all of this stuff- been playing guitar for about 6 years now but have really been focusing on just learning to play.  Come a long way!  If you get confused: Whole- Whole- Half- Whole- Whole-Whole-Half.

The general consensus is the Full Drive is the best pedal there and that it makes the deal worthwhile.

Hope you are well, TH.

Looking into a new delay pedal. I like my malekko ekko but it slightly colors the tone and is a lil more noticeable with my new amp. Still loving the Kalamazoo love pedal. A really fantastic alternative to the tube screamer. Might just go with the carbon copy for a delay.

As of late I play a ton of bass: 4 string, 5 string and Fretless as well as Upright.
I have a sweet Fender Deluxe American J Bass, a Modulus Q5, a Fretless Modulus Bassstar from the 80's and a 1954 Kay Upright.
I also play guitars and mandolins.
I play bluegrass, blues, rock, jazz, funk and swing.

This is just a glimpse of my collection of effects - probably numbering in the 50s:

PedalBoard1000.jpg

The most recent pedal I've obtained is the MXR Sub Machine - it's a super crazy deep fuzz with a Sub aspect that shakes my home studio, my house and very much freaks my wife out....  With bass it's especially dangerous and can ruin PA systems and amplifiers:
Submachine.jpg

The best device I've recently acquired (by far) is a 2 channel Pre-Amp called "Felix," by Grace Designs out of Lyons, CO.

It's like a swiss army knife that I use for all purposes.  I can blend a Piezo and Mic signal for double bass, mandolin or guitar.... I can beef up the bottom and cut the mids for electric bass or I can run a rig with 2 different instruments and simply step on a switch to alternate between them with full, robust EQ and awesome, transparent tone.
The only catch is it was stupidly expensive:

FullBassRig1000.JPG

Unfortunatley no toys in my near future.  I've never owned or have even messed around with a loop pedal.  One of these days.

Siobud -- nice score!  Keep concentrating on learning than move over to using your pedals to define your own tone/sound.

Timpane --- I have the MXR carbon copy analog delay and it sounds killer.  Like any pedal it took me some fucking around with until I got the sound that I wanted.

I've been enjoyed the heck out of my Moogerfooger pedal.

The Multiple Resonance Filter Array (MuRF) combines an 8 band array of resonant filters with a pre-programmed Animation section for unlimited unique sequenced filter effects. The MF-105M adds MIDI in for MIDI clock sync, tap tempo, and more. Its warm, resonant, 100% analog Mid and Bass filter bands bring you everything from shimmering timbral morphing and rhythmic stuttering to deep bass grooves, and like all Moogerfoogers, it’s built like a tank to stand up to the toughest touring and studio use.

That looks like one of those pedals you need a degree to use properly.

Nothing worse than finding my 3 year old tweaking knobs on my pedals.  It's not like I play a lot but, come on.  Hmmmmmm, I guess I should just make him his own pedalboard with the ones I don't use anymore.

I just tweak the dials to get cool sounds.   :)

That's some really cool gear, treblemaker.

Nice to see I'm not the only bassist using Genz Benz, it seems like not a lot of people know about them but I thought their stuff was solid.

How do u like that soundblox envelope filter?

i've been thinking about picking up the more streamlined model to replace the old, inexpensive ibanez auto wah I've been using for years in hopes it will give my envelope sound more range, dynamics and wetness.

i imagine that pre amp was stupid expensive, most good ones r but people swear by em'.

i've had my eye on the one a company called noble put out recently.

i'm not even sure how to use one, is it supposed to start or end the pedal chain?

i also feel like I should get a chorus pedal one day but feel like I'd hardly ever use it

>>>>>>i also feel like I should get a chorus pedal one day but feel like I'd hardly ever use it

I'll play SCI songs with you

Also picked up this looping pedal. It's the simplest and easiest to use looper ever. a lot of fun!

Furious,

i love the Soundblox Pro Bass Envelope Filter for its variety of tones, its warmth and it's capacity to please my ears.

The only negative is I sense that it strips away about 1/3rd of the bassinets w some patches.

o also own a vintage Ibanez AF-9 which I like but not so much w bass.

Also pictured is the Chunk Systems Double OO Funk.  An Australian made Envelope Filter.

It sounds great but can be tough to tweak.

I also have a vintage Mutron III but I don't use it at gigs cause of its value.

Love that Genz Benz head cause it's got a tube pre amp and it's very fat sounding and reliable.

Can't say enough good about the Felix Pre.

The TC Chorus is also a Ring Modulator and Flanger.

Its legacy stuff and there's been tons of innovation since that pedal came out but I have used it in nearly every effects chain I've assembled for decades.

If anyone is looking for a killer drum pedal, i highly recommend the Beat Buddy.. just amazing

beat buddy.jpg

Aside from the Eventide, I recently bought an Infinity looper from a friend who wanted a Boomerang. The grass is always greener on the other pedalboard. My collection :

Yes!

I have a Beat Buddy midi-synched to a Boomerang 3 (looper), but the Beat Buddy goes straight out to a mixer which runs pair of 1100 powered PA speakers. So, the drum machine (BB) is always going through the PA and not my guitar amps, which is a game changer re: how I can get the overall mix to be more "full" re: low end. Likewise, having the Beat Buddy midi-synch to my looper (which also has additional Master/Slave loops) makes it so as the rhythm guitar and other parts are always in synch with the drum machine & layers can be added / subracted. I have a Vox AC15 running in parallel with a Fender Twin Reverb via an ABY switch, but I have the Vox mic'd into a (secondary) mixer, which sends stereo out to my Boomerang 3, which in turn sends stereo out to the primary mixer. I also have a cheap keyboard which goes into the secondary mixer ... for that matter more instruments can be added to the secondary mixer ... which serves as a "gathering spot" for all input to be looped.

StringTwang,

Nice to see you, brother.  I've come a long way since you tried helping me set up my M-audio interface!!!  Playing music is so much damn fun.  Like climb up a mountain and scream at the top of my lungs how awesome life is FUN.

"Playing music is so much damn fun."
So concur.

And even though I am now older, greyer, chubbier and suffer from low self-esteem - I'll never stop playing...

Here's a vid clip of my band Fog Swamp doing Allen Toussaint's
On Your Way Down - last friday night at the Grand Opening of the
47 Hills Brewery.
https://youtu.be/3st5spPTfLU

I am playing bass here.

47 Hills was opened by some pals of mine.
The head brewer used to be Master Brewer of the SF Gordon Biersch Brewery on the Embarcadero.
When that place went belly-up he bought all the tanks and hardware and worked toward starting his own brewery in South SF.
It's great if you have time before or after an SFO flight and you want tasty Ales!

Thanks for sharing Treble. Sounds good.

Yo Jay.  Glad you're still around and doing well.  The Fulltone is a good OD pedal. The black one next to it looks interesting - what is it?

^ nice Treb.. smooth bass playing, like the switch from pick to fingerstyle!

Love the song as well..  Have you heard Sonny Landreth playing this with Warren at the Deep End show in Nawlins back in the early 2000's? Pretty spectacuar

>>The black one next to it looks interesting - what is it?

Let me get back to you, lol.  I'm in Puerto Rico for the week but will confirm on Friday when I'm home.

Used to have the RC booster on 100% of the time when I had my old super reverb. That mixed with an Ep booster always on zero really did wonders with that amp. Great pedal.

Yeah I keep the RC boost on all of the time. It makes my guitar sound better, and it makes me younger and better looking cheeky

A Favorite Song Lately WILLIN So Freaking Awesome Song !!! Search YT and other  Little Feat LMA - I found 40  versions on disc now !  props Dwight Yoakam  and Allison Krauss and Tom petty versions

Awesome pedal steel on Some

Lol, Highnote. Maybe, I'll try that trick when I get older. Don't use it anymore with my twin though. Didn't transfer over all that well to a cleaner platform for me. Great pedal though.

I haven't been able to play since Aug. 26 due to a car crash, but I keep trying to plug in once a week and hope my hand/wrist comes around eventually.

DSC_0492pz.jpg

My wife and kids got me a lap steel at Christmas so I can have something to dick around with, but it's not the same as grabbing an electric and letting loose.

15995104_10207407543536201_1504814802289159886_o.jpeg

is there like an online primer to effects pedals and what does what, why it does what it does, and explain in laymen's terms things like the envelope filter, p39 space modulator,  pitch delays, etc., etc., for dummies like me. all i know is when i got dave's picks 21, i just plugged the strat into a fender frontman amp and i had a l helluva time telling if it was me or garcia playing. the tone matched exactly, much to my surprise, so played around with it for hours on different songs. no effects needed, i was so amazed.

Fretboard! I'm so sorry - it sounds like you're missing a big part of your joy! Bummer. How much longer, do you have an idea?

What Judit said.  Hope you can play again soon.

A Fender amp with reverb can go pretty far to play Jerry tones. If you want FOTM or Estimated, you need an envelope filter. Candyman? Phase 100.

Beyond that, it's a quest for higher fidelity - like the wall of sound in your man cave.

IMG_8142.JPGJHS Pedals made this for Ryan Adams recently.

Hillman - there are many online resources for guitarists with GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).

I like these guys: That Pedal Show-

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnUXq8mGmoHt0e6ItuTs10w

thanx stringtwang, i'll definitely check that site often! appreciate the heads up

Hillman, I think that stripping down to the bare guitar tone is a necessity sometimes. I do very often. It keeps me with limited pedals and pedal uses. The ones I use now have to add to the tone instead of changing it. I dig the philosophy

The latest iteration.

This joint is turning into the Gear Page.

I like this thread.

Vibes for Fretboard!

Nice fancy switchbox Klon-dike.

IMG_8150_1.JPGHere's my current setup.

Dynamic Wah should be a strain name.

I think most effect pedal names could double as strain names.

Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts. I'll do up a thread at some point so I don't crap my misfortune on a thread with cool guitar stuff.

I really do appreciate it though. I was in a dark place when the zone closed its doors and just got around to signing on here. Long time lurker on the old, some viva should do me good.

Been looking for one of these, haven't found one yet.

It will come back.  Keep believing.

I'm trying ot coerce a few pedal companies into a contest to send me one of these on Twitter.  Feel free to encourage them to develop and send me one of these.

Try NoiseKicksFX - They make these:
