Hank Williams I, II and III

Forums:

I love Hank Jr's greatest hits.

All three are/were brilliant, all three are different from the other.

Damn good genes in that family.

Except for maybe the one that makes them all REALLY love to party.

Then again, it's fun to party.

I'm a fan of the first Hank Williams, have barely heard the youngers.

On August 8, 1975 Williams was nearly killed in a mountain-climbing accident. While he was climbing Ajax Peak in Montana, the snow beneath him collapsed and he fell almost 500 feet onto rock. He suffered multiple skull and facial fractures.[9] The incident was chronicled in the semi-autobiographical, made-for-television film Living Proof: The Hank Williams Jr. Story. He spent two years in recovery, having several reconstructive surgeries in addition to having to learn to talk and sing again. To hide the scars and the disfigurement from the accident, Williams grew a beard and began wearing sunglasses and a cowboy hat. The beard, hat, and sunglasses have since become his signature look, and he is rarely seen without them.

Judit, I think you'd find Hank III a bit (or a lot) raw for your tastes.

His father Hank Jr. is like a more countrified Lynyrd Skynyrd or Marshall Tucker Band. He's old now but he used to be really good. That damned "ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!" Monday Night Football song that played at the beginning of MNF for endless years likely made him some real good money but IMO also ruined him in certain ways.

His son is pretty much just an out of control maniac, but man is he talented.

Hank Williams is one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century.

Hank Jr is terrible. HE SUCKS, PEOPLE!!

Hank 3 is an ok rockabilly dude but he's a heavy metal/punk guy at heart. Saw him at the GAMH many years ago on a date

"That ain't no Hank Williams song."

Wonder what Hank II feels about Obama?

I'm listening to the podcast Cocaine & Rhinestones. It's pretty good.

I listened to maybe 8-10 songs by Hank lll on youtube. Some of the music was good, and I like his voice, but after about the 4th song about pills, getting drunk, fighting, including "Punch, Fight, Fuck", the lyrics got pretty stale and uninteresting; it's not like they were cleverly written.

I'm still at Hank the First as my Hank of choice.

Does Hank 1 sing about booze?

Hank Williams wasn’t hillbilly enough for the true old-timers.

Hank 3 is fucking crazy.

Well, Hank III did put the dick back in dixie and the cunt back in country (I think there's a certain cleverness to that) but while country music in general has never been focused on clever lyrics he does have a wide variety of songs; they're not ALL about getting wasted and fighting, and some of them are well written, very traditional country songs.

I like him because he is a force of nature live. His shows are CRAZY, because he is truly crazy himself and if you go to a Hank III show and stay until the end you'll see three distinctly different bands and styles of music, which has always impressed me.

I usually leave when he goes into the speed metal deal with Assjack, but even though I can only take so much of that it is impressive. I love the Hellbilly part of his show, and his more traditional country set that starts his shows can be excellent.

Ultimately I like all three Hanks. I saw a few Hank Jr. shows in the '80s that were great. He's the best singer of the three and he's written some really good songs himself, but of course Hank the First is Hank the Best.

It's such a damn shame that he died so young. He really was just getting started.

We used to call cocaine hank

Sr is perhaps the GOAT, so comparisons aren't fair. Jr. has become quite the right wing nutjob,n but back in the day he was pretty dang-ole great.  Whiskey Bent and Hell-bound will always be one of my favorite songs.   https://youtu.be/u2V4UUjYBsA

Family Tradition is pretty classic as well.

Hank Sr.-an American treasure

Little Bocephus-an abomination

Hank III-a weird hybrid

family tradition is a great song.

the youngest bugs me with the mic/vocal deal. he likes to 4x4 though.
