Happy 50th Dennis Elsis

Forums:

Hard to believe that I've been listening to Dennis Elsis on the radio for 50 years now. Starting over on WNEW-FM and currently on WFUV-FM, Dennis is the last person standing from the WNEW crew that shaped so much of my musical tastes. Scott Muni , Pete Fornatale, Allison Steel, all dead and Vin Scelsa retired, a radio era is coming to close. I'm just glad I was around for it all.

Ditto.  Catching up on weekend 'FUV.  He dropped in on both Mixed Bag and Cavalcade.

Elsas, BTW.

You forgot Richard and Dan Neer.

Elsas, BTW.

Total rookie mistake on my part. It is amazing how us that grew up in the NY metro area were ex posed to so much fantastic radio growing up. I can still remember the first time I listened to an FM radio when I got my first stereo. I was used to AM radio, WABC mostly, and when I tried the FM switch for the first time the old-school dial that was set on WABC-AM was in the same location as WABC-FM. Fist song was Badfinger's Baby Blue and the first voice I heard was Vin Scelsa. In short order, I found WNEW-FM further up th dial and Vin switched radio station to NEW. Radio was exciting to me those days.

You forgot Richard and Dan Neer.

Indeed I did. Glad that you didn't. Richard is still alive and doing radio, albeit a sports call in show and not music.

And believe it or not he's very good at the sports thing on WFAN

He's also written several books which are also excellent reads.

Listened to Elsas' show yesterday from 2-6. He had a 50 year retrospective, including clips of interviews with Elton John, Jerry, Jagger, Paul Simon, Crosby, Nash and others. He wrapped up with highlights with an interview with John Lennon from 1974.

I still listen to Dennis Elsas and started with him when he with that WNEW. What a great line up of DJ's they had! The arc of rock and roll was an amazing thing to witness....
