Happy Birthday Jimmy Carter!

Forums:

95 years old!   Such an honest and decent president.  History may not rank him as the best president but clearly one of the best human beings to have ever served in that position.

Yes indeed ken

his record is one of which he should be proud. Is it really that hard not to start wars?

^^ Agreed.  A good Navy man. Brother to all.

Decent guy.  Decent prez.

What would you give for either right now?

I agree. Bless his heart. He is a man of dignity.

A good man, the country needs more leaders like him. Happy Birthday.

Received the Nobel Peace Prize ...... and 3 Grammys!

Let NORML get the permit for their July 4th gathering in Latayette Park, across the street from the White House.  When Reagan became president, Ronnie and Nancy denied NORML the permit and granted it to the conservative family values organization Up With People.

His sons got stoned in the White House.  His brother peed on the lawn.

>>>>His brother peed on the lawn.

My parents bought a couple six packs of "Billy Beer" as a gimmick and figured they would be worth something as a collector's item someday.  But alas, my older sister and her friends found them and that was that.

Jimmy also had solar panels installed on the White House, but Reagan threw them out with the trash.

What would you give for either right now?<<<

Actually wouldn't mind seeing Carter serve a second term ... even at his age.

There'd likely be an inherent "guarantee" that our nation would receive the "best of worlds" - let alone the grand wisdom of a former POTUS who has lived to 95 -  contained within James Earl Carter Jr. .... and likely sharing the same spirit as that of our founders.

With the right staff, it could be done.

But alas, my older sister and her friends found them and that was that<<<

Happy Birthday!

97.

I was just thinking today that "history" will likely look far more favorably upon Carter in the long run; in large part, to the inherent bias of how these ranking systems / persons are simply "too close in time" to modern era presidents in relation to how partisan propaganda seeps into even the most neutral of historians / presidential "experts".   Moreover, this sort of proximity bias can be deeply entrenched and last a VERY long time.  I believe President Grant's steady "rehabilitation" in recent times is a prime example of how "lost cause" propaganda exacerbated and overemphasized the negative attributes to overshadow the almost unparalleled challenges he faced during Reconstruction years and to the detriment of him as a "whole person".  IOW, for the lost cause narrative and Jim Crow to succeed, the denigration of Grant was a necessary counterweight. I believe Carter's reputation also endures a similar dynamic in so far as GOP having saught to boost Reagan's image to an almost iconic status by knocking down Carter.

Regardless, Happy-MF97-Birthday!

HBD, James.

The current "alt-right" fascist movement was birthed when Jerry Falwell sold the Moral Majority mailing list to the Reagan campaign.

Match made in hell.

A fine human being, but a failure as a president.  His inability to change the entrenched Washington beauracracy doomed him to a 1-term occupancy of the Oval Office.

Happy Bday Jimmie

May your peanuts be roasted

Do you really think that was it? It almost STILL seems like that shit will outlive D.C. or this country itself. Please see also his unwillingness to deal weapons to terrorists which only added to domestic oil woes and then enter Reagan, Ollie North, increasing touble in the Mid-East, the boosting of Sadaam, Bin Laden, etc.

Might be the best person to ever serve as our President, but in effect, not necessarily a good president.  His failure in Iran was epic.  That was an act of war and should have been treated as such. They would have backed down.
