Happy Saturday Morning Snow Report

Forums:

Wishing everyone a wonderful day. Not much snow action here, they called for 1 to 3 inches and we have a dusting and its not sticking to the roads. So i'm off to have my mechanic try to figure out what the rattle is behind my radio, needle in a haystack.

I saw on the news last night Texas was getting snow.

How and what is everyone doing today?

Peace !

Snow in Baton Rouge yesterday

Had snow in Vermont several times already this year. No big deal.

Usual errands and some projects today. Saturday is the day I work for myself. Ski tomorrow.

Peace to you and everyone else. https://www.vivalazone.org/other-stuff/today-international-day-peace

Temperature inversion here in Oregon. Going to be a sunny, warm spring like ski day up on the mountain. Yesterday, Timberline Lodge was in mid 50's while Portland was cool and windy.  Same thing today. Hopefully I will get a suntan on the slopes.

Lots of snow in atlanta

Snowing now at the Jersey shore. Thermometer reading 32°f. Summer cannot get here fast enough for me.

Summer right now if you head far enough to the south. Just past the equator.

just started snowin in Ct...supposed to get 4-8, but, its New England, so, we shall see

Inversion getting stronger everyday here in Salty Town. We'll have two storms barely clip us in 10 days or so but the next projected decent storm is for the 22nd, and even that's iffy.

So until them, no snow and shitty air. Low to mid-40's for the high, mid 20's for the low.

The resorts are hurting. Some are making snow. Snowbird let everyone get here for Thanksgiving then shut down the lifts for lack of snow.

Happy Saturday, all. Another Christmas party tonight, and I'm up for going after two root canals yesterday. And Eric McFadden's in town.

Sunny here - freezing mornings, afternoons around 50. No rain 'til Fri.

In the famous words of one Yukon Cornelius...

Nothing.

Snowing as we speak in Delaware.

>> Had snow in Vermont several times already this year. No big deal.

Lil over 9 inches in 24 hrs. Still lightly falling.

Totally unexpected.

No preparation of roads ahead of time from NCDOT.

IF they have the Xmas Jam tonight, it will be a miracle.

>Summer right now if you head far enough to the south. Just past the equator<

I know, my daughter likes it here and my son wants to move to Toronto. I have about 10 years left here before i head to a tropical paradise.

.6 of an inch in Mobile, a record.

Pretty weird for Gulf Coast.

Began here in South Jersey about 9 am, wet and heavy snow !   Bob drove all nite so as to beat the snow and got here about 5am, gonna chill all day and make a pot of homemade soup, and cannoli creme ( I am taking my homemade cannoli to my friends at Ardmore tomorrow nite to see Nels Cline . )

Great day for baking, whatever you are baking .....;)

Just got back and my front right strut had the top bolt loose, much better now.

Getting ready to start making fudge, going light on the quantity this year.

Let the making and baking commence !

Ateix was given express written permission from me to post that picture, Six.

I'm proud of his work here. Ateix is an A List Zoner.

Thank you, Mark.

I've always pictured that kindly old woman gazing out at some fat, round flakes of snow, gently and peacefully falling on the foothills of Vermont.

Was hoping to post before the snowier-than-thou.

vGotta be quick around here.

i mean, its not 6now, but we like what we are getting.

Or she's looking forlornly at the piles of white stuff that will keep her homebound and hoping some kind neighbor will clear her walks. That's a big issue for the elderly.

Or she's thinking what a bigger chuck the heat bill will take out of her $713 Social Security check this month.

 >>>I wonder what Latex, and St. Snot think about ?

Coming up with nicknames that are actually funny, mostly.

That someone would save a file to their computer and call it 'latexwindow' and 'stmarkwindow' makes me laugh.

Little reverse googling, "Sad guy window," and "Smoking old man window" for the image results. Some quick and dirty.

But relatively speaking, does it make sense to call someone half one's age an "old man?" Haha

Thanks for the chuckle, RRG.

Levon smoking is cool.

Latex and Snot are fine nicknames.

Sixer and I had a nice conversation about coffee while at the Solid Sound Festival in the Berkshires. Turns out he is very passionate about Keurig.

Yeah, I'm passionate that they suck.

Also >>Ateix was given express written permission from me to post that picture

Permission or not, borrowing is unoriginal by definition.

The lion's share of our meet that weekend was Sixer espousing his strong feelings about Keurig.

Well, everything good in this world IS connected to Keurig. It makes sense.

Would you say you're particularly partial to the Green Mountain K-Cups, Sixer?

And how successful have you been in the reusable K-Cup campaign that you described in such detail?

I can overcome my loathing and disgust of the bacteria - filled water chambers in the K-Machines just long enough to have one at the bank or Tire shoppe.

At Agway,  though,  I blend one Cocoa plastic unit with one Coffee plastic unit.

Hüsky consumed about 2 Oz.  of that and left the shredded paper cup as evidence,  just the other day.  Of course I was concerned,  as both Coffee & Chocolate are Dog toxins.  But it did not slow H.I.M.  down much.

He loves the Snow.

Ol Six'r is getting his chops busted pretty hard in here.

I had actually searched for "sad hipster looking out the window"

The St. Snot catch was a bonus smiley

lol

Hardly getting busted is more an appropriate description, Snot.

That is H.I.M.  in the Snow,  my back yard.

"I like my coffee like I like my women: strong in the face, and wearing a strap-on"

- actual quote by Sixer

Man, can I turn a phrase or what?

"I've been petitioning the state legislature to outlaw Keurig's use of the 'Green Mountain' brand of K-Cup for some years now."

 – actual quote by Sixer

See?

He must have been secretly recording your every word and saving the k-cup bust out for a super special troll day.

Clearly Latex has stepped up his troll game to the point of it becoming evident he is possessed by the Philzone Gremlin Douche Troll, this is a strong entity indeed and the only hope we have to save him is to have it pass to someone else, just like it got passed to Latex.

>> Clearly Latex has stepped up his troll game to the point of it becoming evident he is possessed by the Philzone Gremlin Douche Troll, this is strong entity indeed and the only hope we have to save him is to have it pass to someone else, just like it got passed to Latex.

Is this English or some kind of native people's language?

fake news cheerleading at its finest.

Your writing style today is somewhere between remedial learner and acid casualty, Fo6.

Impressive.

>>fake news cheerleading at its finest.

Like blowing snot into a tissue.

Hey Fog, I'm listening to Hot Tuna.

I saw the email you sent to the music listeners group last week, Ateix. What was it like going back to get your GED after ten years? You must have felt very accomplished.

Learning is a lifelong process, Sixer. You're never too old to go back.

I guess I should get mine too. Thanks for the heads up.

Philzone Gremlin Douche Troll feeds on dingleberries, this could get real ugly fast.

The pursuit of a philosophy degree doesn't require a high school diploma?

Good pick Slacker, i'm headed out to do some plumbing repair.

Don't go Fo6. We're about to discuss philosophy.

I'm gonna switch to Blank Generation, Fog.

Next time, ateix. Now run along and go listen to some John Mayer.

We don't have to discuss philosophy if you don't feel properly equipped to do so, Sixer.

Slacker, when i bust out my vinyl collection the Iggy Pop goes to you. Even if valued over 5 bucks.

>> Slacker, when i bust out my vinyl collection the Iggy Pop goes to you.

Translation: I have no connection whatsoever to alternative music but I did just google Blank Generation and don't want to seem completely irrelevant.

Do you want to discuss philosophy, Fo6?

It rained for 2 solid days up here in South central AK.  Finally got cold again.  Now there's a nice layer of ice over everything.  Wish it was snowing here.

https://www.theweathernetwork.com/us/alerts/high-alert/massachusetts/fra...

Meanwhile,  Mass is getting a good snow accumulation.  Atex should probably get out of Mom's basement and help the poor woman shovel the driveway.

It stopped here in Jerseyland.  Maybe 1.5 - 2 inches on the ground.

Do you live in your mom's barn, Stu?

Mom's alright, Stu. Worry about your dog. I sure do.

Your Mom is a dog? Ah...

Here I was thinking you had up and vanished when we were about to discuss philosophy, Sixer.

I noticed you brought up John Mayer. Would you like to talk about music, instead?

Let's talk about music, Six. Agent Orange is a band I like. Do you like Agent Orange?

Maybe you just wanted to talk about moms and dogs for now. We can touch base later.

It's actually kind of amazing Six & Fo6 are still at it after all these years, trying their damnedest to keep up.

There's a certain grim poetry in futility, I think.

Allow me to posit Ol' Sixer has something of an excuse: he seems unequipped to discuss some of the topics that come up. Couple that with the low energy and you have a recipe for disaster.

I would expect more of Fo6, since he's empowered by the forest spirit or whatever.

We've been having dense freezing fog here for a few days with air stagnation warnings. It's just made it up to 32˚! Yay! They say the air will be suspect til the 14th and overnight temps will continue to freeze the fog. No snow.

I'll discuss Philosophy with you, ateix. Let's begin with the Parmenidean influence on Platonic thought.

I must warn you that I'm a Heraclitean, but let's have some fun.

Sure, let me google that real quick

right

Yeah great. So a central tenet of his theoretical approach was an argument against the concept of a 'void,' which seems like it would run counter to the Socratean notion of the ideal, archetypical form - since those clearly exist outside the sphere of tangible, physical reality. What am I missing here? Plato's interpretation of the Socratean Forms almost seems a counterpoint to the argument that a 'Void' cannot exist.

Either that or I have it running in reverse, and the Platonic interpretation of Forms is an extension that the Void doesn't exist. What's your take?

Mind you I'm just finishing a GED, like Six says. Let's keep the kid gloves on, and maybe that will encourage more lively discussion.

I can't tell you my take until you explain yourself better. What do you mean by that?

From my extensive wikipedia-sourced knowledge, the notion of 'nothingness' is first and foremost rejected by Parmenides – correct?

What does that mean to you? How does it affect the Socratean Forms?

It would indicate that by the nature of its own definition nothingness cannot be. To even consider the void is to give it properties and therefore give it manifestation in some form.

Do you think that the Socratean Forms exist outside of a conceptual or theoretical space?

^^How do you relate that statement to Parmenides's and Socrates's ideas? Perhaps the most permanent fact ever is that of the void.

After a brief respite,  the Snow continues to fall here in Jerseyland.

Slacker jests of me living in Mom's barn,  which would not be a terrible option.

Actually,  the neighbor Farmer was over the other day,  and suggested that I should live in one of the equipment barns -- a good structure with sheet rock,  built in the mid-70's.

My house / shack was built in the 1800's and is poorly insulated.  The Barns are in decent shape.  There is a Hay Barn with 1800's hewed timber-frame construction,  a ten-stall Horse Barn ca. 1964,  and another structure which holds tractors and Woodworking equipment.  Two Zoners have visited my Farm and seen these mythical structures.

Actually,  that one is two mid-70's structures with concrete floors,  flanking an 1800's 2-story Barn.  Each of the 'modern' barns has two roll-up giant garage doors and some John Deere tractors within.

Unfortunately,  the oil-fired boiler heating system is defunct.  It was kinda Kool back in the 70's to walk in there,  Wintertimes,  and the Bulldozer would fire right up.

I think 'Home heating Oil'  (red-dye Diesel) was about 20 cents per gallon back then.

Please define "Socratean Forms," "conceptual" space, and "theoretical space."

The weather here is nice.

>> Perhaps the most permanent fact ever is that of the void.

Hm. Is that right? Guess I would just consider myself an optimist, I never really thought of it.

I can't answer your question unless I understand your five-minute take on Socratean Forms.

Edit: Sorry, Floops. Doesn't feel like we're getting anywhere here.

God bless you, Stu. May they never find the bodies.

Optimism has nothing to do with it and Socratean Forms do not exist, afaik.

>>>Doesn't feel like we're getting anywhere here.

You have the talent to sound like you're saying something.

If I hone that talent, do you think I might be able to live in a rented room as an expatriate for the rest of my life?

Asking for a friend.

You have no idea what you're talking about, but you so want to. It would be painful to see, if you weren't such a dick.

Why do you have to be such a dick, ateix? Or are you really just a nice boy simply taking antagonism to a higher lever?

No Floops, I already told you – I'm an optimist. I guess you were wrong, optimism has everything to do with it. You just gotta "Keep On the Sunny Side."

No, you're a dick. What's wrong, man? You okay?

Mr. Floops,

While you probably know the exact contents of ~that~ special Hemlock brew,  dates and dosages and times,  Atex admits that he had a 5-minute immersion of the topic (not snow).

Anyway,  the boy speaks of "bodies"  and I am aghast of whatever s/he might be implying.

There is a Deer  carcass not far away,  with 'two-point' antlers.  Probably a victim of bow-hunting season.  If you liek,  I can send a Priority Mail box of Rib or Leg bones your way.  Do you have pet Animals ?  Cats & Dogs love chewing on those.

Dude, Stu. Are you okay? I hope so.

I'm gonna keep on the "sunny" side, Floops.

You keep asking those questions, though. We'll cross over to that other shore, so to speak, eventually.

Nice evasion, ateix. I see what you did there.

Just stick with ateix is a dick.

Zero need to go deeper on that.

Tsk tsk. Sixer.

Mr. Floops,

I'm totally OK.  I hope you are OK also.  The Hemlock reference you would probably understand.

I was not offering to mail the Deer Bones over there to NL;  rather to Atex in Mass.  You might think that is strange,  yet Antler chunks go for 12-20 bucks in Pet Food shoppes.  For a tiny little Chunk !!

Hüsky enjoys gnawing on some Deer bones,  or Cow,  or Sheep.

Nothing wrong with that;  it is good for them.

Raw bones,  not cooked.

Anyway,  the Hüsky photo depicts Snow Dog frolicking in the Snow,  which is what he loves the most.

Seems 'on-topic'  to me,  as this one started out as a Snow thread.

Tsk Tsk what? I’m just pointing out what everyone already knows.

Update:

I just had a couple Southern Tier 2xmas winter warmer ales.

Thus I am catching a buzz....

Carry on

snow thread....lets def. go deeper...

Floops, any snow in forecast?

Six, should we see what else "everyone already knows?"

Hi, Jambone. The Nlands gets almost no snow, but yeah... they think so. I can handle a dusting.

How's it by you?

RRG, I’m listening to Black Oak Arkansas. Cheers!

Happy snow thread, everyone. Cheers, RRG.

we re predicted for 4-8 in Ct, Floops, and have about 3-4 now...first snow of year, so everybody festive...we ll see how long that lasts...;)

have a nice Sat pm....all

i know 6 is definitely the worst zoner, ever. wtf man. way to represent VT.

Floops waxing philosophical from a hostel on the outskirts of Amsterdam is always good zoning.

The only thing that would make this thread more magical is one of those patented Hudson Valley drunken meltdowns.

I love the holidays.

haha

^the night is young.

Well, at least I have that going for me. You're just a mediocre, middle of the road zoner, pyramidheat. Keep your dreams alive though - someday...

Sixer, when you are unabashedly the worst at something, it's usually not a great vantage point to evaluate others' perspectives. Just, you know, for your own edification.

Opinions vary, ateix. Among dicks - I'm the worst, but among those I actually respect - well, they tell me I'm just fine.

Ah, but do they tell you when you're wrong, Sixer?

Hold me closer, tiny dancer.

Not sure I get the reference. Is that a song you enjoy?

I like Agent Orange. Do you know any of their songs?

no doubt, 6.

but i just wanted to remind you of where you stand, you know, what everyone already knows.

thank you.

I was wondering who might take up the 'Worst Zoner' mantle now that G'Stain has been exiled to the Garbage Zone.

Ha! J/k. I knew who it would be. smiley

Tell me more of how you speak for everyone, pyramidheat.

Yes, I know Agent Orange. Saw them in New York when I lived there in the 1980s.

Too true, Mark. Too true.

We should all pour some grain liquor from our collective ram's horn or whatever for the native Zoners who couldn't make it to this holiday season with us. Salut.

>>Not sure I get the reference

You need to go deeper.

haha, awesome. keep going man.

Why don't you contribute something worthwhile instead?

<<< I’m just pointing out what everyone already knows.

>>>Opinions vary, ateix.

<<<Why don't you contribute something worthwhile instead?

That's "your" contribution?

Calm down and tell me you're at least having a happy snow day.

my contribution was reminding you that you are in fact the worst zoner.

i thanked you for pointing out my mediocrity.

Come now, Sixer. No need to play arbiter of quality or worthwhile contributions.

God knows you don't have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to those.

im pretty calm-maybe at a .2 now...the coffee from George howell i picked up has me getting a little excited, i must say.

the homegrown dank is helping with that. no snow for me, sir. we did get about 4" last week though.

sir?

miss?

Ol Six'r is getting his chops busted pretty hard in here: Part Deux

Strong work from everyone in this thread. All played their parts perfectly, except for Judit dropping in with a weather post just to let you know you're being watched. Next time just be you, and go ahead and tell them to change their strain.

Thank you, Hounder. Always good to see you. God bless.

I missed my edit window but I'd also like to add that I want to buy rrg a few rounds. Enjoy!

tiny dancer...too fuckn funny, 6...cant go much deeper than that...

Jambone, I usually picture you as wearing a protective helmet while posting. Accurate?

Lighten up, Francois.

Always a pleasure to see Floops posting. Hope you are well, dude.

So glad you could come around to help out, Hounder. Couldn't get along without you. Now, go change your strain.

Perhaps you missed the weather reports throughout the thread? Or the topic of the thread? Note that Wingfan is from Oregon and has completely different weather from mine. Reading about people's environments is yet another appealing aspect of being here.

six flags in Atlanta cancelled a snowball fight for upwards of 1,000 ppl.....due to.....snow.

tickets will be refunded. no announcement if date will be rescheduled or just take place for free in parking lot.

Hey Judit. Worst zoner ever here! Have a pleasant evening.

You're welcome Judit. I'll try and help when I can, but I'm pretty busy these days. Things should slow a bit in a few weeks. Hold down the fort for me.

Oh, it stopped snowing here. Only about three inches. Expected rain on tuesday should melt it away

six flags in Atlanta cancelled a snowball fight for upwards of 1,000 ppl

Ah...brings back memories of the most epic snowball fight I was ever a part of. It happened in Dallas during the Dallas Ski show in the parking lot of the Hilton. It had snowed a few inches of high moisture snow that day and after the show closed for the evening, all the exhibitors from ski country got liquored up on resort expense accounts and were looking for some action. Some of the snow sports athletes had made a trip to a local big hair strip club, convinced about 10 dancers to come back to the hotel and in short order the snow balls started sailing through the air. As the battle royal hit its peak, security drove by, checked out the scene from their vehicle, paused and then drove away. They were not equipped to deal with the melee that had invaded their hotel.

>>Actually,  the neighbor Farmer was over the other day,  and suggested that I should live in one of the equipment barns -- a good structure with sheet rock,  built in the mid-70's.

Not sure if this sounds like an episode ripe for Hoarders or American Pickers.  Leaning toward Hoarders.

Lol Winds too true.

Hey, Across. I'm surviving. All the best to you too.

Well, Hey ho. There is now a significant snowfall in Holland. I'm sure everyone else is getting hit too, but I haven't looked.

The kids are psyched. This could be the biggest snowfall they've ever seen.

How's it out there?

We ended up getting about 4 inches here..Woke up to a hawk in my backyard getting attacked by crows and not looking too good for the hawk.

Good to see you Floops.

It could be both, an episode of Pickers visiting the farm of a Hoarder.

Good morning Fog and Floops. Plenty of snow here. Nice thread, Fog. Too bad some would rather troll your thread than report the snow totals where they live. Is that part of what makes them "better" zoners?

^just can't help yourself, huh. it's ok, it's what makes you the worst.

Do you have any sense of humor or is that stick so far up your ass that you take everything at face value?

I do appreciate that the timing of your response.

was that a funny? right on....haahahahaaha.

sorry, miss.

Right on, brother!

hahaha!

i mean, between the worst and straight up mediocrity, we aren't getting far, 6.

we finally got some snow, a dusting.

You got a dusting? Right on!

yeah, haven't seen much snow at all-guess it's still a bit early.

Peeps like to have a white Christmas, though - and that's only a couple of weeks away.

There is plenty of snow on the mountains. I skied last weekend and it was not too bad. I hope to get up for a few runs this afternoon.

Do you ski, ride, skate or partake in any other winter sports?

How much are lift tickets?

They run from a low of 59 at some resorts to 131. Depends where you go and where you buy. Online they are much cheaper. That 131 ticket is 99 if you buy online 48 hours in advance. My spouse works for a resort - so I get a free season pass - which I am very grateful for.

Lift tickets in Colorado run about the same depending on the resort. How much are they in California?

i like to shine up the old saucer sled and hit the hills w/ a head full. that's about it. haven't skied in years.

It's sunny today.

(I'm watching all of you and deciding if your behavior is emotionally acceptable to me based on nebulous and highly subjective standards.)

Looks like every place uses dynamic pricing now to get $50-$200.

>>haven't skied in years

How come?

Chef Bill gave up skiing years ago too. Wish I could get him out on the slopes.

I hope to ski into my 70's and beyond if possible.

Yes, slacker, dynamic pricing is the hallmark of 21st Century America.

^no reason in particular. used to come up to vt from nj for skiing (i know, don't jersey vt, it's too late!)-i do enjoy it, my favorite was the trails thru the woods. so fun.

Where I live is in the woods and we are surrounded by mountain bike/x-country trails. I love the woods. Even when I ski downhill - I prefer gladed skiing.

I agree - the woods are the most fun.

>>i know, don't jersey vt,

I married a jersey girl and dragged her up here.

what mountain(s) do you prefer up here?

I like Mad River,  Sugarbush, Stowe and Jay Peak - but Smuggler's has some nice woods skiing - like Doc Dempsey's glades. I'm a northern Vermonter - so that should make some sense.

Magic and Mount Snow have some real nice terrain down south.

Not a big fan of Killington, Okemo or Stratton. Too big.

Castle Rock at Sugarbush and Paradise at Mad River = heaven.

Angel Food off Chin Clip in Stowe = most fun!

Is "shine up the old saucer sled" code for something? Sounds kinda kinky in a baby boomer sort of way.
