has anyone been to a smoke shop lately?

Forums:

its been changing a LOT. almost hard to believe. these guys are straight up drug dealers now. youve got all the "hemp"/thca stuff which is more or less just normal weed sold at the smoke shop, legal due to the farm bill. they've started synthesizing a metabolite from kratom called 7-hydroxymitragynine and have been selling it in 15-30mg tablets, and the effects are pretty much identical to hard opiates - nods, physical dependence, the whole nine yards. ditto for a nootropic with opiate effects called tianeptine. there is all kinds of "mushroom" stuff - some are amanita muscaria, some are RC tryptamines like 4-aco-dmt, and some are just straight up magic mushrooms. i dont even live somewhere where psilocybin is legal and one of the shops down the street just sells legit psilocybin chocolate because they dont give a fuck i guess. youve now got these huge personal size n20 tanks, like 100 whippets in one big can with a nozzle that lets you dispense the gas into balloons.

this kind of stuff isnt the bunk/scammy "legal highs" that used to be on the market like blue lotus or those ridiculous "legal buds" from international oddities. this is full on psychedelics, real weed, and real opioids comparable to oxycodone at every local pipe shop. im sure these shops have tons of addicted, daily users of 7oh and tianeptine and are absolutely raking it in.

when i was a kid, you'd get kicked out of these shops for saying the word "bong".  now they have stronger drugs than many local dealers and are selling them openly.

Guy who was busted in PDX last year for running "The Shroom Shop" was just sentenced to 5 yrs. probation.

He gets to serve it in Canada, where he's from, and where he runs the original Shroom  Shop, apparently w/o govt. interference.

Such a deal.

> when i was a kid, you'd get kicked out of these shops for saying the word "bong"

Was that about the time Tommy Chong got sent to prison for selling bongs?

I live a block and a half from the University of Washington, which has something like 40,000 students.  A Bartell's, a CVS, and a Wallgreen's drug store closed last year.  Another Bartell's down the hill at U-Village closed last week.  There is no pharmacy in the U-District now.  Another smoke shop opened in one of the Bartell's though.  Our weed dispensary gets bigger lines than any of the three smoke shops in the neighborhood.  One of them has a big flashing sign saying "We Have Kratom", but I haven't noticed any one on the Kratom Nod yet.

yeah, i got a new down stem, bowl and the wax hemp roll. didn't notice anything else shady but i'm old and don't know wtf you are even talking about. it is also next to a 7-11, so there's that

Maybe people can stop sucking on brake cleaner cans now

I've always wondered why there wasn't more open drug dealing like there is with prostitution. I mean there are full on websites with for prostitutes and they regularly follow me on Bluesky and the only thing I post and follow is politics. There are endless "massage" parlors where I live that operate year after year.

But none of that exists for drugs. I remember reading a story about some not famous or rich musician who said he had to stop touring because he was sick of getting beat up trying to score on the road. Why don't the cartels have people dealing at gas stations? Just surprised that there isn't more open dealing of drugs.

So funny when I worked at the porno store in 2000 and was the manager of the smoke shop you were absolutely forbidden to speak any words relating to cannabis or their accessories

If you are talking straight up head shops it depends on where you go but some of the stuff is just like outer space to me and I don't care to learn what it all is.

If you are talking dispensaries, I am really not a fan because it's all just way too much hype and variety. Guess I'm too old for this modern day marketplace.

Maine had it right when I was there in that one respect anyway

We should all just be able to grow our own

Fuck a middleman

Yea I think this whole legalization thing is in some ways a case of "be careful what you wish for" from an end user perspective. I'm sure it's taken some of the stress away from the average grower tho to not sweat as much but there's alot of fingers in the pie it seems

You are allowed to grow here in Oregon which means you end up with way more flower than you know what to do with.  Yeah, you can turn it into butter, but the problem with making and consuming home grown edibles is they can be unpredictable in my experience and sometimes you get too high to function.  That's why I pick up gummies at the pot shop because they are so consistent and you can regulate the dosage with Prussian precision.   And they are super inexpensive.   A ten pack of 10 mg gummies is just $15 or $1.50 per gummy (cheap).  Every now and then I might pick up some pre-rolls just for something different.

>>>>now got these huge personal size n20 tanks

Saw those down at Hulaween.  Crazy.  Guess the days of stealing tanks from out back of the dentist office or huffing garage grade gas are over.

i still see big full size tanks in lots outside of shows, i still see the business cards for gas vendors getting passed out, so the days of sourcing big tanks and dealing with nitrous mafia types are not over for everyone, but those days are certainly over for me, at least until they take this stuff of the market, which seems imminent. its popular to huff nitrous from these galaxy gas type tanks among real young people on tiktok, which means its days are numbered. meanwhile the far more dangerous and far more insidious 7-hydroxymitragynine continues to fly under the radar. 18yo kids are not flexing it in viral tiktok posts so nobody cares yet, but you can read thru the subreddits about 7oh and see all the dope fiends freaking out when their packages dont land, telling stories about blowing thousands of dollars per week at smoke shops, trading tips for dealing with withdrawals, etc etc.

ive been a daily kratom eater for 10+ years, but this is a whole different beast. expect lots of scandalous news stories about 7oh coming up in the next year or two. its virtually analagous to if smoke shops just started openly selling oxycodone pills OTC to anyone who wants them.

didn't notice anything else shady but i'm old and don't know wtf you are even talking about. it is also next to a 7-11, so there's that

these are the 7oh products im talking about. this is an especially big selection, but virtually all of the products shown in these pics are pure 7oh products that give nearly the same effects as stuff like oxycodone. note all the brand/product names that allude to opiates - roxy, hydroxie, press'd, perks, opia, etc etc. if you just imagine all these products are morphine or oxy tablets, thats a pretty accurate idea of the kind of stuff on offer here and what they do.

ive heard lots of stories of people who got turned on to this stuff by the folks at their local smoke shop who dont really know much about 7oh and give people the impression that its a mild, safe and "natural" substance thats more in line with cannabis, kava or plain leaf kratom. i think ive heard a few folks here mention using kratom, so im just leaving this here as a warning - if you wouldnt consume poppy tea or actual painkillers, do not use these products.

I'm curious about how the DEA sees this, so I visited their site and searched for 7-hydroxymitragynine. This is the only reference I found there, and it's from August 30, 2016:

DEA Announces Intent To Schedule Kratom

The Drug Enforcement (DEA) today announced its intention to place the active materials in the kratom plant into Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act in order to avoid an imminent hazard to public safety. Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine are found in kratom, which is a tropical tree indigenous to Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, and other areas of Southeast Asia.  The announcement was made in the U.S. Federal Register and can be found by following this link.

Kratom is abused for its ability to produce opioid-like effects and is often marketed as a legal alternative to controlled substances. Law enforcement nationwide has seized more kratom in the first half of 2016 than any previous year and easily accounts for millions of dosages intended for the recreational market, according to DEA findings.  In addition, kratom has a high potential for abuse, has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States, and has a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision. These three factors constitute a Schedule I controlled substance according to the passed by Congress in 1970.

Kratom has been seized by law enforcement in various forms, including powder, plant, capsules, tablets, liquids, gum/resin, and drug patch. Because the identity, purity levels, and quantity of these substances are uncertain and inconsistent, they pose significant adverse health risks to users.

From February 2014 to July 2016, over 55,000 kilograms of kratom material were encountered by law enforcement at various ports of entry within the United States. Additionally, another 57,000+ kilograms of kratom material offered for import into the United States between 2014 and 2016 are awaiting an FDA admissibility decision. Together, this material is enough to produce over 12 million doses of kratom. The FDA has also warned the public not to use any products labeled as containing kratom due to concerns about toxicity and potential health impacts. In addition, FDA has issued and updated two import alerts related to kratom products.  Kratom has been on DEA’s list of drugs and chemicals of concern for several years.

The American Association of Poison Control Centers identified two exposures to kratom from 2000 and 2005.  Between 2010 and 2015, U.S. poison centers received 660 calls related to kratom exposure. The Center for Disease (CDC) found that kratom abuse leads to agitation, irritability, tachycardia,  nausea, drowsiness, and hypertension. Health risks found in kratom abusers include hepatotoxicity, psychosis, seizure, weight loss, insomnia, tachycardia, vomiting, poor concentration, hallucinations, and death. DEA is aware of 15 kratom-related deaths between 2014 and 2016.

interesting stuff, no spot taken

sure do miss the days when you could get a big jug of ephedrine pills at the head shop

i'm sure some heads here probably remember getting their ecstasy supply there too

This guy paralyzed his own dumb ass on gas station nitrous

gotta keep that b12 on hand, kids

>>>Guess the days of stealing tanks from out back of the dentist office or huffing garage grade gas are over.

When I was 16 and got my wisdom teeth out I noticed two tubes coming into the second story office one marked N2O. Looked out the window and saw a huge tank chained to the outside of the building. Went back a few nights later with my friends van and liberated the tank, but it didn't have a regulator. We were all very dumb teenagers so we tried to fill up the van as we were driving around but that didn't really work. Finally figured out 30 gallon trash bags over the tank and your head worked best if you didn't want frost bite on your face.

Was just thinking yesterday what a miracle it is that I've made it this far with all my digits and no head injuries.

Mr Smoke opened its first store 3 years ago in our county, they opened store # 9,10,11 in the last 6 months

Galaxy gas is $49 for 1.1liter $69 for 2.2 liter and $89 for the 3.3 liter tank

the 3.3 liter gets approx 240 balloons $5 a balloon is a good profit line

bubble gum, cinnamon, mint, winter fresh flavors. Marketed for kids. I personally know 4 people who dump their paychecks each week on them for personal use 72 hours straight sucking it down

its fucked

the smoke shop now are open till 3 am. Just in case someone needs rolling papers in the middle of tithe night

i I have a pic I'll try to post of a pool truck and trailer upside down on top off another car with shit scattered everywhere with a 3 liter tank in the middle of it all

i should open a drive through one...like an alta dena market.

3 am? prolly not good for the neighborhood.

My son in law's pharmacy sells Delta 8. He was giving me vape pens and I finally told him that I just smoke regular weed but appreciate the freebies, even though they went in the trash.

first time I smoked fake weed (Mr. nice Guy) i went into a tunnel vision state, and felt like I was tripping, and it lasted a couple hours. I tried it again and only got high, finished it and went back to straight weed. We have shit down here that will make you eat the face off your neighbor, and the right wing politician won't let you grow regular weed but allow this shit.

Fla dragged its feet on flower we voted on and within a few days Ron was elected and put his foot down and got us smoking flower in weeks. I said Hey this guy is not so bad. Well it wasn't to much later when he flew his true colors. His colors are White white and white with no rainbows at all

i voted NO to prop 3 to fully legalize it here due to no home growing, Trueleaf  the biggest seller of med weed in our state was pushing the no home grown part of it

come on man let me legally grow a damn weed plant

so far, IMO the vast majority of legalization bills at the state level are worth voting no on due to massive overregulation. im 100% including CA prop 19 here. im proud to be one of the few pot smokers who voted no on that garbage. the only acceptable legalization bills would treat cannabis EXACTLY like alcohol, including all commercial activity and penalties for unlicenced/illegal activities. if i buy a piece of land and grow wine grapes on it without submitting any of the permitting required to operate a vinyard, you dont get raided by swat and thrown in jail for 5-10 years. \

I voted no on 19 also.

It was built for corporate takeover of the growing here and that is what has happened.  40 yr growers are giving up. Can't compete with multi million dollar grows.

The wink and nod times we live in are strange. Here is Diplo on the CNN NYE broadcast admitting that he is tripping on air.

https://consequence.net/2024/12/diplo-cnn-lsd/

for such a politically fucked up state, growing in oklahoma as a small 'mom and pop" has been enjoyable (so far) with most dispos fully supporting the small grows..no big players yet, and thankfully, everything is delta-9.  Card holders can also legally grow 6 plants at home, indoors or out.

Well this is smoke shop related

kids got me an Otto all-in-one grinder, cone filler, and a bunch of cones. I love rolling joints, although I mostly hit the one hitter, but prefer the 1.25 sizes when twisting. I'm A pretty good roller with the small papers but prefer the larger joints with the 1.25.

this Otto thing is amazing, but somewhat messy. I have been filling cones left and right with this thing. I still prefer a regular joint vs. cone, but the thing is still great at what it does. I'm not going to be able to afford doing this everyday, but this hipster thing is pretty neat.

i think now that the kids have crossed the bridge on buying pops hipster dope products, I'm going to tell them next year I just want weed.
