If it's truly an "all hands on deck" moment for Democracy, have the Dems pulled out all of the stops to widen its informal coalition to defeat MAGA in 2024?
I'm somewhat fascinated about how little I know about official coalition building that goes on in other countries; perhaps because it's mostly been a "winner take all" proposition in the US for as long as I've been around. I'm truly curious as to how official coalitions come to be in other nations and how such processes might be applicable here in the US?
As we witness the fracturing of the "far left" in recent times within the US regarding the situation in Israel / Gaza, it's not hard to envision things getting so bad that it splinters off from the rest of the party. While Dem leaders might contort itself to thread the proverbial needle to assuage internal dissent, it still leaves open the question of third parties, independents, and never-Trumpers.
Why aren't Dems actively engaged in high level talks with third party & never Trump leaders to formulate some form of "official bargain"? Or, do Dems believe we've got this in the bag and want to preserve the status quo that keeps its leaders in power?
It would seem to me that an official and well-publicized "promissory note" designed to level the playing field for third parties (i.e. open debates, federal funding, rank choice voting, etc.) when "the coast is clear" (of MAGA) might be low hanging fruit to persuade third parties to not appear on the Presidential ballot.

^ It sure does!

As much as there isn't even a comparison between Dems and the current state of the GOP, I believe the onus is still upon the Dems to prove to the American people that the party is in fact working for the national interest and not simply partisan objectives. There has been very little "out of the box" effort on this front. I think it even a little would go a long way.

Getting a more likable and
Getting a more energetic and relatable front person would help. Still hanging on hope that Biden will say "I am just getting too old for this shit." Understand he probably won't, especially two months out from the primaries, but he isn't doing the country any favors with his stubborn reluctance to just let go and pass the torch.

So here's a crazy idea. What
So here's a crazy idea. What would happen if Biden offered Trump a preemptive pardon Trump for the federal charges he's facing? Would Trump's acceptance of a pardon be an admission of guilt that could then be used against him in a 14th Amendment case to keep him from running for office again? Also, if Biden were to offer Trump a pardon, seems like that would take all of the wind out of Trump's claims that the Biden DOJ is weaponized against him, whether Trump accepted the pardon or not. Of course, a Biden pardon wouldn't apply to the charges Trump is facing in Georgia and New York, but a bold play like offering Trump a pardon could put Biden in charge of the narrative for a change.
Like I said. A crazy idea. But that's about what the Dems need to keep from getting clobbered at this point.

Still can't figure out why,
Still can't figure out why, leaving the the personalities (or ages) aside for a moment, a possible majority of Americans say they would rather live under fascism than with our flawed form of democracy.

>>>perhaps because it's
>>>perhaps because it's mostly been a "winner take all" proposition in the US for as long as I've been around.
Winner take all isn't a quirk it's the law. The reason other countries have multiple parties is because if you win 12% of the vote you get 12% of the seats in the legislature. Then the parties create a government with other parties that gets them over 50%. If the 12% party joins with the majority they negotiate to have someone from their party take what we would call a cabinet position. So the head of the 12% party would be named secretary of transportation in the new government.
In America the 12% party gets nothing because that is the way it is written in the constitution. So in Presidential elections for every state except for Nebraska and Maine if there are five people on the ballot whoever gets the most votes even if the most votes are less than 50% wins - the candidate who gets 12% gets nothing. For Senate and House races who ever gets the most votes even if it is less than 50% wins except in Georgia where there is a runoff between the top two but even there the 12% party gets nothing.
That is why it is a binary choice in America and unless you change the constitution will always be a binary choice. A vote for anyone other than Biden is a vote for civil war.

Last week I decided not to jump onto this fly paper, but I may be headed down to the RFK Jr rally on Thursday in SLC to hold a sign telling him he's an asshole. Well, maybe not so crass.

Gotta give Joe credit for reigning in that trumpian war monger in Israel a bit. I guess "elder statesman" might mean something after all. Yes, things are still tenuous, but the utter destruction of Gaza and the resulting slaughter and casualties of innocents has been halted.
Yes Joe is old, but can we talk about the ages of his team of advisors? They are not 81.

Yeah I love how the genocide Joe crowd wants to hand the government back to the guy who gave Netanyahu a tank of gasoline and a pack of matches.
