Have You Ever Not Listened To A Band Because Of Their Name?

Forums:

For instance: Alt-J.

Squirrel Nut Zippers

Garbage

The Grateful Dead

A long long time ago like 1988 I asked my spouse one day if they wanted to listen to 10,000 Maniacs.  And they responded eeww no.

So I put on  In My Tribe, and they really really like it   Who is this they ask?

10,000 maniacs I replied.

No, but do believe "Spafford" should change their name if they don't want to sound like a giant Bernese mountain dog (and it's brother "Spaulding").

Butthole Surfers?

Twiddle

Ratdog?

Yes twiddle sounds very wrong . Likely the worst band name ever

Tha gay cowboys in bondage

Pee Wee and the Wristers....a local Rockford band in the late 80's. Not going, no way!

a few hours later, weed and alcohol helped dissolve the name barrier and I went to see them at a local bar...glad I did as they were a great cover band.

Butthole Surfers were dope.

Elvis Hitler is an American psychobilly and hellbilly band from Detroit, Michigan. Their first album, Disgraceland, was initially released on Wang Head records. The band put out two CDs on Restless Records: Hellbilly and Supersadomasochisticexpialidocious.

Dread Zeppelin is an American rock band best known for performing the songs of Led Zeppelin in a reggae style as sung by a Las Vegas Elvis impersonator.

The Dead Milkmen. The band distinguished itself in the hardcore punk scene of the early 1980s through its jangly punk sound and sardonic humor delivered with thick Philadelphia accents. The band enjoyed international success on the strength of "Punk Rock Girl", a single from their 1988 Beelzebubba album which entered into MTV rotation

Those last three you listed are all good bands I have enjoyed listening to.  The point of Punk Rock is to unsettle you, and you're missing out if you let those names get to you.  Butthole Surfers are another good example of this.  None of them have anything on The Dayglo Abortions.

My issue with names like Alt-J, are that they just sound L-A-M-E and do nothing to provoke my interest in hearing their music.  Twiddle and Spafford are both excellent examples of this.

Spafford sounds like the entitled douche we all met our first year of college who had already been sent off to boarding prep schools since he was 14.

Buckethead

String Cheese Incident

OAR

... to be fair, my band has a really stupid name.
