Healing vibes coming your way, BK

Forums:

>>> Well kids, I'm currently taking a well needed vacation and getting some R&R - in the hospital. Massive internal infection, and what have you. Between the IV dilaudid every few hours and having so many tubes in my arms, it's hard to type.

Be good to each other, would you? <<<

Sending lots and lots of good wishes and healing vibes for your health, Brian.

Kind of a silly choice for a vacation, but I hope they get the infection under control quickly and you make a speedy and complete comeback. Love.

Thanks Judit. Long story short, perforated intestine. Best case scenario, no surgery. Worst case, colostomy bag for a few months. Surgeon is making the call at 8 am tomorrow. Until they then it's about pain control and infection control.

I self advocated for something lighter than dilaudid. I really have no desire to nod out like that.

Get Well BK, best wishes for no surgery.

Good luck.  I was in the hospital for a week lately.  I know what you mean about the dilaudid!

Take Care BK ! rest rest rest.

((((Healing thoughts)))) flying your way!

Sending healing vibes

Damn dude that sounds awful. Heal up quick now

Rough vacation.

GWS

Wow. I had the same problem 21 years ago. Mine took a long time to figure out before surgical intervention. Been fine since. I wish you a speedy recovery. Best of luck.

Hoping you're feeling better soon, BK.

This too shall pass

Temporary colostomy bag is better permanent one, right?

Oh, ask for extra Oxygen and maybe  some nitrous for the pain - my niece recently gave birth and they offered the combo  to deal with labor pains. Sounds dreamy..

All the best to you, BK. Wishing for nothing but positive outcomes.

Healing waves coming at ya from the foothills of the Blue Ridge.

jeeeezus dude, I know I promised not to publish this pic of you at the last Zoner meet up, but.... --- now just stop that nonsense, get better soon and then go immediately to a show!

That tube went down my nose into my stomach, and was hooked to a pump to drain out all the extra bile and air.

brick, nice touch.

ouch, bk.

It's the hallway. I can't stay in the damn bed anymore. I woke up at his morning, did some stretching, some squats, some push-ups, and then the doc told me no surgery today's. White blood cells are way down, so I may not need it.

Brian K, I am sorry to read this.  Please get well soon. You have damn fine folks wish you all the best.

I am wishing you well, also.

Stay tough, Jay. I'm a 50 year old dude who gets what I get. Anything with a kid is harder.

That would put me on edge, Jay. I hope it goes smoothly with best possible results. Love to you all, especially K.

My new roomie is going through severe alcohol withdrawal, and he's annoying as shit.Fuck me hard.

Lookin good bro, keep mending. Any nurses under you during them push-ups ?

Positive swift healing vibes Brian, You got this!!!

hunterose_4.jpg

For the record, Bk; at no time did I create an alias on garbabezone and troll you. Get better, buddy.

>My new roomie is going through severe alcohol withdrawal, and he's annoying as shit.Fuck me hard.

did he ask "how do you like your eggs?"

>>>>>My new roomie is going through severe alcohol withdrawal, and he's annoying as shit.

I used to date a nurse and she said that they would sometimes get people in with the DTs and they would give them beer to help with the symptoms (so long as they were in for non-alcohol related problems).   Maybe you could have someone bring him a flask of booze.

The dude has been explaining the science behind the DTs, and why then need to give him Valium at specific times because that's when he'd be having a drink.

Hope you get well soon Brian!

{{{{healing vibes}}}}

Great news on the no surgery.  How do they fix without surgery if you don’t mind me asking?

Damn, Brother.

Feel better, soon.

Hopefully you can talk the shared staff to give the room mate a tranquilizer so you can rest.

Hoping you feel better soon!

You looked so good the last time I saw you last month. Sorry you have taken this turn. Vibes to you.

Ever since Lookslikerain left our lives, things have just fallen apart...

Positive thoughts from west Marin to you BK.

This is cool and good.

news.

Noice!

I have a "what would you do" question for he Zone:

Yesterday I had pretty major abdominal surgery and they cut out part of my colon. Everything went great. Before surgery hey gave me a spinal, so the numbing agent and narcotic could be auto-delivered directly to my spine post operation It worked great.

At around 10:00 pm the onset of the most intense pain ever came on. The nurse paged the anethsetist on call. It took almost an hour for him to respond. He upped the dosage. By that point I was in the worst pain imaginable. I could literally feel every staple, stitch and incision. Still no relief with the upped dose. It was beyond bad, like crazy fucked.

I managed to blurt out, "Is the fucking thing in my back?" They rolled me over to find that the tube had come out. Just hours after major surgery, I had absolutely no pain management. I can't even explain it. The nurses did everything they could. The guy managed to get a 1.5 mg scrip of dilaudid the system, and that brought the pain down a bit, but only temporarily.

I asked if he was coming over to put in the spinal. Nope, he wasn't leaving home. To compound it, he was having problems getting scrips in the system from  home, but he wouldn't come in to do it. It took 2.5 hours for him to finally get in an order that did a half assed job of mimicking the job of the spinal. For most of that time I was in a level of pain that was literally unimaginable. Think of having your gut cut open and part of it removed, with zero pain management only hours later. As he was on call, if he came in it would have been less than an hour.

The line fell out, and that wasn't his fault. it was his responsibility, as the on call doctor, to provide a certain level of care. He didn't.

Today, 4 nurses told me that they have filed official complaints against the dude. They couldn't believe what they saw, and were traumatized by it. I was the one who felt the brunt of it. So, what would you do? Does that piece of shit deserve to get sued? A number of nurses have come to me and said that I have to. They can't believe what the dude put me through and the unnecessary pain I endured.  By 8:00 am today the head of Patient Services was at my bedside offering apologies. The word had already spread, and they are running scared.

Crazy story, right? Should I sue the fuck out of the bastard?

Hopefully the hospital somehow makes it right, without you having to sue.

good luck.

You should talk to a lawyer for sure.

So the line is back in now? You're feeling better?

Amazing that there was no one else at the hospital that could have gotten it back in.

Was that a major procedure?

I had a foot of my colon cut out. The spinal line was only for post-op pain management, to send the numbing agent and fentanyl directly to the spinal column. It went unused because the guy didn't want to come in. Anyone could have done it, but only the anesthesiologist is allowed. It's strange, doctors and nurses not involved are still coming up to me, apologizing, and high fiving me - literally. One said, "the pain you endured is legendary."

Other than that, everyone has been awesome.

Sorry to read this, BK. Definitely should speak to a lawyer. Hope the worst is over and you have a speedy recovery

It's weird. I woke up this morning and it all became "real." I was really, really sick and had a major surgery.

I can't believe only an anesthesiologist can reinsert a tap.

Lawyer yes, but you may want to wait to talk to them until you are back on your feet out of that hospital. You're one tough sob man, more healing vibes your way.

Better call Saul....

Seriously though LAWYRUP

I had a nurse botch my pain med dispenser post surgery and the CEO of the hospital was in my room the next morning ready to run errands for me. I say sue and let the malpractice insurance pay up.

Get documentation now. Get it written up.

Shit BK that's gnarly!!

im not sure what you should do but seems the pain and suffering should be compensated if someone refused their responsibility...

Hopefully you can settle w/o going to trial.

It's all too much right now.

I would keep how you feel about their negligence close to your chest, meanwhile documenting your pain

and details as you have here. Maybe by voice dictation on your phone?

They need to be held responsible for the simple fact of what's to stop this from happening again?

You seem to live a healthy life and have mentioned how you exercise pretty regularly.

I can only imagine what could've happen to someone not in the same shape.

I hope your pain subsides quickly, because that dilauded and fentanyl could be a crutch no one can lean on.

Heal well brother.

Talk to a lawyer and the media. Record the names of all the witnesses (nurses) who will back up your claim, and document the timeline. That doc needs to be fired, bad press will do the job. What a pain!

I agree with Stringtwang. Get documentation now (sympathetic nurses names?).

Write up all you can while it's still fresh in your head, and I agree with TOD, keep your intentions close to your vest and be nice. You may find out more information that way.

When you got nurses telling you you should sue and filing complaints, that to me is big. You might engage a sympathetic one and ask "what would you do" and "who would you consult with" without giving your plans away, saying you're just considering options. They may have some insight into how to approach this.

Sorry to hear of the ordeal. Glad things have turned somewhat for ya. Get well.

Yes,yes, yes. Do not give any indication of your possible plans.

Did the drunk guy in the bed over witness what happened to you?

OUCH X INFINITY!

Can't imagine that pain for hours! Start looking for a vacation home in the Bahamas. Sue Sue Suedio

Hopefully you have a friend or family member who can advocate for you at this time. You shouldn't have to deal with it until you feel better. Again get a patient advocate. It's a thing - especially while you are on pain meds.

Sorry to hear about the crazy pain you had experienced, hopefully with each day you feel better.

Hopefully everyday you're getting better.

Don't get all lovey dovey with anyone there.  Document times, dates, names etc. and get yourself a malpractice attorney to go after both the anesthesiologist and the hospital(2 separate entities). I would not trust their care and would get transferred if that is an option.  The back room staff is already crossing their t's and the medical staff will, if they haven't already been instructed to, get closed lipped real fast.   That's a major operation and honestly without proper sedation there is big potential of futher complications.

Heal up BK!!!

  Man, what a shitty situation.....

As Stringtwang (and possibly others) said, you need an advocate or 2. Both a personal one and a medical one so you don't have to be the person tracking things, especially with so much going on. Having worked in the medical world and been an advocate, this is a big job, where your only job should be to heal. Heal and recover. You are going to need your strength and wits to just go through this process, without having to deal with the shit that's gone on. How is your pain level now?

I wonder if he'd been drinking or something and didn't want to come in in an inebriated state? Regardless, there should have been another anesthesiologist on staff to take the call. Jesus, you've gone through what no one should have.

I am not a litigious person and wouldn't have thought of suing for money. I would, however, use anything in my powers to not only get the anesthesiologist's privileges revoked, but pull him up before the state Medical Board for sanctions, at best. You should never have had to go through what you did. Documentation exists, have your advocate keep compiling it for use as needed.

Sending you healing vibes and love.

I haven't finished reading, but if  you're in a podunk  town in Vermont I would be very scared.  Get help or a second opinion somewhere in New York or Massachusetts

Wow. I am so very sorry about all of this. Hoping that you heal well and thoroughly.

And, god damn. Somebody needs to answer for what you've been forced to endure.

Love.

Damn BK.   That sucks.  When it rains it pours.

Yes, it would be a good idea to speak with an attorney specializing in medical malpractice once you heal up.  In the meantime, please be mindful that if a lawsuit is filed, the defendants will more than likely request copies of any and all of your social media postings discussing the incident.   As I always tell my clients, don't post anything on line about the case that you wouldn't want your mother or a jury to read.

The whole thing is overwhelming, and that little incident was just a blip. At the end of the day, you all have been awesome. Thanks for the support. The Zone still lives. Thank you all.

>>>I am not a litigious person and wouldn't have thought of suing for money. I would, however, use anything in my powers to not only get the anesthesiologist's privileges revoked, but pull him up before the state Medical Board for sanctions, at best.

well said Judit.  Good luck BK.

Jeez.

Sorry for your ordeal.

Lawyer up.

And Yelp! (no pun intended), maybe?

percent full recovery on its way, get well bk

As I prepare to go home tomorrow I'm wrapping my head around it all. I was really sick and had major surgery. Recovery is going to be slow and steady, and ai have to remember to chill the fuck out and not try to overdo it. Fuck work for a few weeks, just heal. And in a short 4 months I get the Ileostomy reversed with another big surgery.

Be nice to your colons, kids, or this is how you end up!

Best of luck to you. Heal quickly and fully.

Glad to hear you're heading home soon. F work, heal up.  Tell us what to avoid BK.

I know it's probably getting repetitive, but "listen to your doctors" can be words of wisdom.

Hope you're on the mend and feeling better!

Hey feel Better soon BK.

That's actually very uncool how they were chopping your intestine with no sedative.
So that anaesthesiologist is a real Jerk.

Don't go and punch him / her though.  Sue that person and the hospital.  The attornies are good at that, and will do most of the work.

Best of luck to you, and hope you Feel Much Better.

Avoid a life of hard drugs and alcohol between the ages of 12 -23.

Too late for most of us, huh?

Don't be too hard on yourself - my sister in law had a similar procedure and she rarely touched booze or drugs. Her diet though is meat and potatoes. High in transfats and dairy too. Always suffered gut issues and still does - after multiple surgeries. When I talked to her about probiotics she didn't have a clue.

I hope everything works out for you briank. Easy does it, is the key

You will Heal
Physically and mentally.  Zoners can indeed be kind. I am indeed glad you are a zoner

BK, although we have had some political and religious disagreements from time to time, I wanted to wish U nothing but quick healing.

Have a speedy recovery.

Hey BK, no idea what's going on, I'm back at work these days so I have very little time to post or read, but I definitely want to stop in here to say that I hope you are doing well, recovering, healing and that you're at 100% again pronto. Lots of love out to ya', brother....

As I know you've all been on the edge of your seats wondering, I'd like to give a progress update:

I've been home for a week and am healing nicely. I haven't needed even Advil for pain for a few days, and am adjusting to the shit bag, which is only for a few months. I've also dropped over 15 lbs of mostly muscle. That kind of sucks.

Other than only sleeping 4-5 hours a night, all's well.  Now that he gut isn't in pain I've finally started dealing with the festering case of crotch rot that started in the hospital. Holy shit, it's gnarly! Lol! I'd post a pic, but it would scare you all to hell.

Off to walk the dog,

glad you're on the mend, but I think I'd rather see a pic of the dog.
