As it so happens, I am in the lower Hudson valley at a Scooby Doo looking old AirBnB with my extended family. Got to go out and stock up on beer, wine, and White Claws for the cousins. Wonder if it will mess up everyone's FL flights home on Monday?
Been through way too many tropical storms to hurricanes, including Andrew.
Just a few tips
No alcohol or drugs during the storm, you do need a clear head.
Fill as many dixie cups with H2O and put n freezer ASAP, after a storm Ice is a hot commodity.
If you run out of cooler space wash machine works well.
Fill al bath tubs with water, even if you have city water. Shit gets contaminated.
Dry foods like bread, PB&J cans of tuna etc......
tie a 20 to 50 foot rope to your toilet, when viewing destructive tornados and storms the crapper is the only thing standing.
Misc wood nails and a few tools inside your home, in case you have a breach.
DO NOT put duct tape on windows, it doesn't do a fuckin thing except make you wash the glue off for days.
batteries for a fan, radio etc.
Pick up all loose light weight and medium weight stuff out of your yard and store close to your house or fencing. Winds don't rip between houses as bad as front and back yards.
Fill car gas tanks and propane tanks!
Turn A/C and refrigerators as low as they can go.
Finally the most important Cane tip is. After all is secure and the wait of the storm is approaches. GO FISHING, the barometer will be dropping hard and the fish chew like a Mo Fo. Nothing better than a blackened fish taco as the storm appears.
Good luck and stay safe, I ain't envious of any of you. I hate Canes.
It has always been my somewhat-innie understanding that nearly every Floridian had huge fishing coolers that also accommodate for the extra beer at those seasonal Hurricane Parties
Do hold off on the party favors till after the eye wall passes.
Had a tree go through a window once and a back door fly open then off its hinges and a back porch become a front yard ornament, Glad I wasn't trippin for that
I get that, Tim. Family & Friends have sent pics of stuff like 2x4's stuck in tree trunks and full-grown boats flung into the wildest of places too. Stay safe, Y'all!
Squalls out on the gulf stream
Big storm commin' soon
Passed out in my hammock
God, I slept till way past noon
Stood up and tried to focus
I hoped I wouldn't have to move far
Sure could use a bloody mary
So I stumbled over to Loui's back yard
And now I must confess
I could use some rest
I can't run at this pace very long
Yes it's quite insane
Think I hurt my brain
But it cleans me out, then I can go on
There's somthing 'bout this Sunday
It's the most peculiar gray
Strollin' down the avenue that's known as A1A
Feelin tired, then I got inspired
I knew it wouldn't last long
So all alone I walked back home
Sat on the beach and there I made up this song
And now I must confess
I could use some rest
I can't run at this pace very long
Yes it's quite insane
Think I hurt my brain
But it cleans me out, then I can go on
Well the wind is blowin' harder now
Fifty knots or there abouts
There's white caps on the ocean
And I'm watchin' for water spouts
It's time to close the shutters
It's time to go inside
In a week I'll be in gay par-ey
Hell that's a mighty long airplane ride
And now I must confess
I could use some rest
I can't run at this pace very long
Yes it's quite insane
Think I hurt my brain
But it cleans me out, then I can go on
Yeah heading east, RI in it's direct path, poor fuckers,, that state is low lying anyways. A light rain and wind for the past couple hrs is picking up a bit in western ct. We made all kinds of storm prep (filled propane tanks to cook on grill, gas cans for the generator, batteries, lawn chairs and potted plants in garage, charged up phones, food for us and pets),, fuck it, we'll use it all eventually.
We're ready, time to kick back and enjoy some mother nature fury.
Whole bunch of not much from where I am. No wind at all for the last few hrs, and never got above 20mph gusts. Piddly light rain since 5pm, only rained heavy about 3-4 hrs. Lights never even flickered all day. Might come back around here before heading out to sea,,, but so far nuttin'.
