15 yrs of working thanksgiving, easter, july 4, new years in a papermill. union managed to hold on to christmas as the only shutdown holiday. then Enron bought the mill and mill went belly up.
never believed christmas shutdown made any sense. took a week to get mill running again after complete shutdown resulting in long torturous hours trying to get machinery functioning correctly that was only shutdown 24 hours a year.
but Lord knows the $$ was insane if you were young and could handle the punishment.
I'm working through the Holidaze too although I'm done by 2:00 pm each day, the OT is pretty good. Unfortunately, I was so tired from the 5:00 AM wake up yesterday, I took a nap that lasted 3 hours yesterday and missed a family dinner. Damn!
Feeling better rested today, will have another family dinner to go to, so I can still get my Christmas on...
My buddy in Portland, OR is also a water plant operator and always scoops the 2.5 x OT holiday shifts, if possible. His bosses have always been very Good to him, letting him bring the Dog to work and such.
This Christmas special was filmed in Trondheim, Norway's magnificent Nidaros Dom cathedral, one of the oldest Gothic cathedrals in the world. Featured performers include the renowned voices of the St. Olaf Choir, the premier mixed voice choral ensemble from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, conducted by Anton Armstrong and Jentekor, the girl choir of Nidaros conducted by Anita Brevik. The program showcases the rich choral music traditions of two countries, presenting traditional Christmas hymns and carols in both Norwegian and English as well as accompaniment by a string quartet, piano, organ and Hardanger Fiddle, a traditional Norwegian instrument. The St. Olaf Choir, the pioneer a cappella choir in the U.S., has a long standing relationship with Norway, dating back to 1874 when St. Olaf College was founded by a group of Norwegian-American pastors.
Not a very white xmas here in NH but we have a little snow on the ground. The Elvis radio on pandora was the perfect mix of classical xmas music & bluesy flavored Charles Brown-BB king xmas tunes for opening gifts with the family. Hope everyone enjoys their holiday.

Merry Christmas Jazz and the rest of you folks.
I always made double time on holidays except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years day
which were all triple. Since I worked the night shift I could always do an early family dinner
and then go in and make the extra cash.

We awoke to 9.25 inches of snow just overnight.
Just one lane cleared down the street - still.
I'm guessing the plows will be out big time after midnight when they don't have to pay the Christmas holiday pay.
26 degrees right now.
