Hornings Hideout Tragedy

Forums:

Hornings Hideout in the foothills of the Coast Range outside Portland has been one of my very favorite outdoor venues for decades.  Had some great times there and if anyone has been, you will know what I am talking about.

So it's extra shocking to hear that Bob Horning (who runs the place) is now a "person of interest" in the shooting death of his brother Carl yesterday morning.   I didn't know this, but the brothers have been in a bitter court battle over the family estate and the care of the elderly mother.   I have had so many interactions with Bob over the years I just couldn't imagine him doing something like that.  But just goes to show. you don't every know.

I sort of figured this was a domestic dispute

really sad

Bad story. Sounds like the Mitchell brothers...

And is it strange that Carl was removed from the family trust just a few months back?

perhaps he was being cheated out of his ownership stake

nice to see someone in banks doing some real reporting

Just reviewed the court records from the ongoing conservatorship proceeding for Bob and Carl's mom.  Don't feel I need to air the dirty laundry here, but its fair to say that there was turmoil in the hills around Brunskwick Canyon in recent years and I am not surprised it came to this after reading the court documents.

I heard one of the brothers refused to allow String Cheese to play any more electro-whomp music there. Killed all the bees. Within 200 miles.

crazy was there once for sci 00 or 01 ?

very cool place, sad this is the outcome

That's crazy if true, but can kind of bee-lieve it ... depending upon my state of mind, sometimes it feels like I'm on the brink of seizure at some shows that get a bit heavy handed on this front.

Still, it's terribly sad to see that things may have devolved in such a way over such a beautiful place.  I was only there once ... at a Cheese run in 2012?

Eh, we live less than 200 miles from the Hideout and we have plenty of bees.

RIP Bob.

ok ok not the bees.  But all the male birds within earshot including the pheasants were sterilized for life.

Let me tell you 'bout the birds and the bees

And the flowers and the trees
And the moon up above
And a thing called love…

(You got it, Surfdead.)

Buzz Kill...

Flashback to happier times at Hornings Hideout, like that time when Marco Benevento was doing a late night DJ set and went past curfew.  Bob came up and tried to shut it down but Marco didn't know who he was some gave him some lip.  That didn't go over to well and Bob banned Marco from the property "for life."

A running joke at the last NWSS in 2022 was whether JRAD would have to sneak dude in or whether Bob would recognize the keyboard player.

Dude didn't know who he was messin with for sure.

Another musician putting his life on the line for music. Just like Fake Jerry said.
