Eight in the morning and already 84 outside, on the way to 106.
I don't think thermometers in W. Oregon even read temps over 100.
We don't have central AC, just a couple of room units. It was 82 in the house when I went to bed and 76 this AM.
Should start to cool off a bit tomorrow - maybe get back to double digits.
I know these high temps are normal for many parts of the US, especially this year, but we're not used to it.

Business is going to be very good for those portable room AC units for the next 50 years. Starting an HVAC company in places that don't normally need AC would be a very smart business decision right about now. Friends who live in Vienna Austria recently got AC in their house. I grew up in Germany in the 60's and early 70's and we would get the equivalent of a snow day if it hit 89 degrees. Everything would shut down.
These days I'm just thankful whenever it stays under a 105 in my area.

It's strange how much warmer Western Oregon gets than Western Washington. We are "only" forecast to hit 87 each of the next three before the cool down begins. Hopefully, this should be the last big blast of high temps this Summer.

Hot during the day is one thing, but when it doesn't cool down sufficiently overnight, that is truly hell.

The original forecasts for
The original forecasts for today in Eugene (Western Oregon) were for 108-110. Now the high is supposed to be 105-108˚.
There are now fires close by causing a rain of fine ash. The sun was red this morning, now it's yellow/grey through the haze of smoke and ash.
We're in a cocoon of grey heat. When I went out to check plants and do a little watering I wore my N95 mask. Smoke, ash and my lungs don't mix well.
I've had my new heating/cooling ductless heat pump system for 2 weeks - I'm enjoying the coolth.
Stay safe and as comfortable as you can be.
Edit: I looked up the highest temp recorded in Eugene - it was 111˚ in June, 2021.

Sucks. Spent all last week in a heat wave down in Florida with temps breaking 100 degrees each day (and it wasn't a "dry heat") only to return to this record breaking nonsense. Going to MMJ at the Edgefield tomorrow and its going to be a hot one. Will bring the mister bottles for sure.

Don't get me started on the yellow jackets. The cats leave the remnants of a small dead creature in the driveway in the early morning and by the time I see it it's already covered with wasps. Gotta wait 'til after midnight to shovel it off into the woods to avoid an attack.

Eugene has not only very bad
Eugene has not only very bad smoke today, but also smog! High ozone levels. The official air quality reading in my neighborhood was 292 at 10:00, very unhealthy. They're asking people to stay home, not drive (smog)... summer, fire season, but I don't remember smog named as such. My daughter-in-law delivers packages for 10-14 hours a day - she's out there in it and I hope she's wearing a mask or 2.
Hope I don't jinx anything but I've seen very few stinging insects this year in comparison to other years. But the pears haven't started falling off the tree to rot yet, that's when it gets the worst.
Good luck, all.

I honestly haven't done any comprehensive reviews of air quality sites (it's so rarely an issue in our parts)... so i'm taking a similar approach with weather;
The government actually can be our friend. I prefer weather.gov to the weather channel (.com), accuweather, etc (they all just rehash the gov info anyway).
So with that in mind;

Our electric company, EWEB,
Our electric company, EWEB, has a large backup generator up in the mountains that they've had to shut down. We got "A call to voluntarily conserve energy" through Wednesday. I think it will be extended through tomorrow.. Part of what it said was,
EWEB typically buys power at around $30-50 per megawatt hour. But the utility is seeing prices of $1,000-$1,700 per megawatt hour at peak times.
Several regional generators in the northwest have been shut down due to wildfire conditions, including EWEB’s Carmen-Smith hydroelectric facility on the McKenzie River, which has been impacted by the Lookout Fire.
Still hot, still smokey and smoggy, still oppressive. Hard times for a lot of people.
Stay safe, everyone.
