Hot Tuna

Forums:

Last nights's show in Annapolis was vintage Tuna. Two sets: first mainly "newer" stuff, second more classics.

Jorma was in fine form -- his playing was crisp, if somewhat subdued. His voice sounded strong with less "muttering" than other times I've heard him over the last few years. He seemed sharp at 84.

Jack was Jack. Perfect.

In addition to the drummer, they added a harmonica player who played a lot of the complimentary "leads." Ross Garner? He used a full range of effects which made the harmonica sound more like Papa John Creech's violin than Wil Scarlet's bluesy harp. Very airy and tasteful. He showed me a large bass harmonica (which he said was rather rare) he used occasionally with a custom made pickup.

The venue was packed. 95% of the crowd was on Medicare, but we had some 30 somethings at our table. They talked a lot.

During the mandatory merchandise hawk, they pitched a line of Hot Tuna condoms. Jack remarked that in addition to the product, the tin container was great to store your hearing aids in.

Thanks for the report.

I enjoyed seeing them as a duo, but this line-up sounds interesting.

Think Jack's patter on the merch has been the same all tour.
