How do pets tell time so well?

The cat meows everyday at 5:55 am. Rain or shine. How does she know? Internal clock?
There are no obvious "Skinner-ian" cues that she would be conditioned to (hearing neighbor's car door, seeing a clock, etc.).

She knows I got used to her telling me when it's her dinner time (5:30 or 6:30 depending on DST) to the minute, and has started notifying me that it's 5:30 at 4:56 (36 minutes after 4:20 iykwim). If I feed her early, she wants me to feed her again at 5:30 on the dot. A stupid tax for falling for her shennannagans.
