How many knots can you tie?

Forums:

I got a book of 3900 knots.

I can tie my shoes with one. 3899 more to learn.

Around a dozen

Maybe 4, possibly 5. I'll check and come back with an update.

Only one more to learn

Square knot

Slipknot

Fisherman's knot

...

What's the floppy shoe-typing knot called?

I can tie a half-hitch, square knot, slipknot, shoe-tying knot and when needed, something else.

I like that the thread was started by Knotesau.

A Granny knot, square knot, bows, and Lassos for fishing.

overhand, shoelace bow, square, bowline, clove, sheepshank, sheet bend, figure eight, half hitch are some that are pretty common use knots.

A good website for knots, including animations:  http://www.animatedknots.com/

I think about 15 or so. I can tie a bowline with one hand behind my back. Learning how to do that got me an extra buck per hour when I was a young tree climber.

I can also splice a few different kinds of rope.

I didn't know I was going to have to pass basic seamanship

lots

I use chair knots to tie my hammock between two trees.

I have forgotten more knots than I know right now. Between fly fishing and fishing for large fish and salt and freshwater I have used and forgotten hundreds of them. I use about twenty now.

im good with the balloon knot

No Eagle Scouts around here?

Four days before a "balloon knot" quip.

Proud o' you kidz.

Eagle Scout here

I used to know dozens of knots... but I haven't used the vast majority of them in 40+ years, so they're forgotten

right now, I could probably tie about 20 knots

Just ran across my old "Boy Scout Handbook" so there might be some good ones in there.  I was involved with BSA for about 2-3 months. Never did get a uniform.

I know a handful of practical knots, but if I have to tie something down in the truck I use those nylon "ribbons" with hooks on each end and that EZ spring-loaded belt buckle clamp.

4-5

Probably over 20+. Climbers life depend on if you tie the knot properly. Have to use many different type of knots in various situations when climbing. We use to practice tying knots in the dark so we had them so down that you would not make an error.

Many climbers die on the way down off a peak when they let up their guard. Like not tying the knot properly.

Lost a good friend ice cimbing. He got to the top of the climb though forgot to tie his knot properly and when he put his weight on the rope he fell all the way to the ground. RIP Greg!
