I just went grocery shopping

Forums:

Like to do that as early in the day as possible, you know?

Shelves be emptying again.

Especially in the toilet paper/cleaning supplies aisle.

I live in a small town in Vermont with a tiny population.

Gonna' be a long winter.

On the up side, you got maple leaves a plenty and snow is the base for many a concoction

the toilet paper thing is kind of funny, the only reason for bare shelves is hoarding, there is plenty in warehouses, but supply chain can't stock shelves fast enough.  Humans.  ^(;;)^

The 'hoarding' is more about not wanting to go shopping again for a while and risk coming in contact with infected people. I'll activate my instacart account again this week so I don't need to step inside the stores again this  winter as Covid cases soar

Time to make the donuts.

In addition to not eating out since the pandemic began (with the exception of an egg salad sandwich at the hospital after my angiogram), I haven't gone into a grocery store & have only done curbside pickup.   So, I haven't really noticed trends of shelves being empty or not, but have wondered at times.  Actually went yesterday and had a high number of "substitutions" so the thought crossed my mind.

I prefer to use the word stockpiling over hoarding, but maybe it's just been my approach ... I have steadily been buying about 1.5-2x of what I need for each cycle on every trip over the course of about a dozen trips since March.  If things continue on the same trajectory, not sure I'm going to want to go as often.

F all ya all hoarders from the 1st round.
jerks.

I heard the reason there's a shortage of TP is because every time people hear someone cough or sneeze, people shit.

Just got back from making groceries

Shelves were full and I was able to keep a 6ft distance

used the self check out, touched all the buttons with a wipe

I was dreading going

especially after reading how Tim got it right before heading out

but it wasn't so bad

It's a vicious cycle. Last time I went to the grocery store I wasn't planning on buying TP because I had a dozen rolls at home. As I looked down the TP aisle I saw only 1 12-pack on the shelves, and the rest was the sand paper they are getting from Mexico (I tried it - it was terrible). I grabbed that 12-pack because I figured that I may not see one again for quite a while. Last Spring my daughter drove here from Burlington to pick up a 6-pack I scored her, becausde she couldn't get any locally.

First they came for the Heady Topper. Then they came for the toilet paper.

Why bother w/ the grocery store?
It is possible to mail order TP from a non-Amazon site: Vitacost.com is awesome... great prices on supplements, too.

Dollar General. What was once considered the bane of a small town has become a life line of sorts.  Obviously im not going there for produce or anything fresh but when the grocery stores ran out the DG people were getting daily deliveries and making the effort to put items on the shelf.

There are so many reasons that TP is flying off the shelves again. One that wasn't part of the original shortages and can't be negated is that with most corporations operating on a remote basis, the stock of paper to be recycled into other paper products has plummeted by over 85%. This in turn means more trees are being felled and the costs to make those products is skyrocketing as well as it taking longer to produce those products. I only found this out because my neighbor, who is a paper wholesaler, told me all about what was happening to the supply chain months ago. It has only gotten worse.

Marketing has something to do with it too. I also live in a small town that has a tiny market, and the TP section has single rolls and mega-packages. I just picked up a 12 pack.

Toilet paper, toilet cleaning products, paper towels, Clorox and other disinfectant wipes, Lysol and other disinfectant sprays and isopropyl alcohol are all in short supply (or are not on the shelves at all in some cases) at the two grocery stores in my town. One is a big store that other surrounding towns also use and the other is a smaller local village market.

My friend told me that if you have a hand spray wand on your bathtub - you can lean your ass over the rim of the tub and - voila! - instant bidet. lol

I've often wondered if the "need" for toilet paper and nail clippers is something akin to de ja vu in The Matrix?

How did human beings get along for so long without these items?

In the summer of 1978, I was an exchange student in Iran. One of the cultural differences I encountered right away was a squat toilet that looked something lke this:

squat.jpg

There was no toilet paper, and the squat toilet in my host family's home didn't come with a set of instructions. There was just a hole in the floor, two slightly raised blocks to place your feet on, and a source of water. I didn't find out until much later that the left hand was reserved for wiping, and the right hand was used for eating, shaking hands, and everything else.

I find it mildly amusing that for as advanced a species we supposedly are, we are the only mammal that requires a mechanical process and cleansing material for elimination

Domestic cats have adapted pretty well to using one place to relieve themselves, but that's at the insistence of their keepers, of course.

Sure, as soon as we're able to lick our own assholes and cocks/vags....    Really -- we're actually questioning the need for tp and sanitary devices?  Lol....

Most mammals have evolved their diet and motility to such a point that they produce neat little pellets or otherwise have achieved a perfect clean pinch. We're so random and abusive in our eating habits that our digestive tracts have never been given the chance to evolve

> we're actually questioning the need for tp

I thought we were discussing the availability of TP, and alternatives in its absence.

Go animal like, work the sphincters.

(Kegels, too)

wink

That perfect clean pinch is a thing of beauty when it happens.

The agricultural revolution moved much faster than our digestive system could keep pace with.  Amazing how human innovations require infinite innovations requiring infinite innovations. It's no wonder we like listening to feedback, It's the anthem of the  soul.

And as far as being able to lick ourselves clean, humans developed that skill hundreds of thousands of years ago. The problem was, as people developed that skill, they also stopped the desire to pursue sexual interest with others , it's kind of a hassle in most scenarios, no?   This lead  to a massive die off of humans who could reach around or under with their mouths.  So here we are today at the store looking at empty shelves where toilet paper once dwelled.

Although I keep a decent reserve of TP around,  it won't be there if a Tornado,  Earthquake or Fire Twister happens.

What's more vulnerable is the actual "Running Water" and "Water Heater".

Those modern features are what I use to take showers and wash dishes.  If electricity goes out,  pressurized Water disappears as well.

So what I noticed during an actual Long-Term utility outage, post -  "Hurricane Sandy"...
People with Natural Gas - powered Water heaters and near a Water tower never ran out of Hot Water,  which is very comfortable during such a crisis. Those folks were in Suburbia,  and never suffered from lack of Water.

The LPG lines are underground in this part of the world,  so strong wind does not ruin them.  Same with the Water lines from the Water tower.  If you're out in the Woods,  you might not have those Municipal services,  so obviously some Workaround comes into play.

I think I'm going to get one of those bidet toilet seats. Fuck wiping! I've been finishing off with a flushable wipe as of late, and it's glorious. Let's face it, dry paper alone can't get one squeaky clean.

y'all just like playing with your own ass

With TP in the OP, you had to know this thread was heading down the crapper.

Years ago in Honduras, I lived where the toilet didn't take paper, and we didn't like the trash can full of shit paper attracting flies while it waited to be  burned. Our solution was a wine bottle full of water next to the toilet.  You simply pour it on your back above your crack and water always knows where to go..  It works great.

I was well prepared future times  in Egypt and Jordan.

don't bother digging holes anymore, just throw a rock on it

>F all ya all hoarders from the 1st round.
jerks.

grumpy Turtle is grumpy

maybe he's out of Toilet paper?

I went 4 full months completely stank-ass free. Granted, I had to empty my shit bag multiple times a day, but that's a different story. Still, I know the joy of having a perpetually clean tush. It's really something special.

Been using Vitacost for yrs, Lollo.  One of 8 -10 places I get my food these days.   A friend bought me a membership to Thrive this yr. Another good on-line source.

Went to Ukiah yesterday to the Costco and to the Ukiah Co-Op.  Safeway still gets a bunch of my business.  Riviera Mkt is less than a mile from my house.    Sprouts in Petaluma when I go there.   All these stores require masks and distancing.

I get organic produce delivered every Thursday. Lake County Organics  Plus.

One disturbing trend is a lot of organic items are being discontinued or are always out.  Heading backwards we are.

^^^ hey Mark!  I get a veggie box too, and now Portland's classic Alpenrose Dairy has restarted home delivery service for dairy and non-dairy items, and they give you an old-school insulated box for the front porch to hold the delivery... otherwise, when I must go to a store, I go at opening or near closing times.

Also, a friend just started working here: https://www.crowdcow.com/how-it-works
They deliver to all U.S. states except Alaska and Hawaii.... thought other Zoners who eat meat might be interested..

>>Also, a friend just started working here: https://www.crowdcow.com/how-it-works

Damn, what a selection! I could almost justify $149 for a 14oz Japanese Wagu steak. It looks amazing.

BK that seems rather luxurious for a chunk of Cow,  but hey I bet it's Delicious.

My favorite steaks are still the local Venison cuts;  I know what they're eating,  and how the meat is processed.

That $149 figure covers butchering, wrapping and transporting two good-sized Deer and most of the State Deer-tag fees.
Something like 65-75 US dollares per Deer for butchering and freezer-wrap.  Depends on which person you bring the carcass to, and which types of cuts you select -

Foxes,  Vultures and other local carrion - feeders get a free meal from the guts;  some lucky Dogs have snacks of Deer Heart and Liver.

Depending upon the skill level of the butcher,  the typical 140-150 lb. Deer yields a few nice Grocery bags of packaged venison.
Feed costs are minimal.

I'll take roadkills for $500 alex

do you trap squirrels stu?

I am not a customer of CrowdCow.com, so can't vouch for it, and I'd never pay those prices for Wagyu anyhow...

I buy from carmanranch.com occasionally, from Eastern Oregon, for braising cuts.

Turtle --

I don't trap squirrels,  but no doubt there are excellent recipes for them.

Once about age 13,  I shot one and brought it home to Grandma.

She said "Go dig a hole about two feet deep and bury it".

The Pheasant I killed the next week,  She was willing to cook.

Actually, it was quite tasty,  but a bit tough in texture compared to Supermarket poultry.

Grandma spent a lot of time plucking the Pheasant Feathers and preparing it for Cooking, and I learned some Things.

Toilet paper, toilet cleaning products, paper towels, Clorox and other disinfectant wipes, Lysol and other disinfectant sprays and isopropyl alcohol are all in short supply

ugh im so sick of this. clorox wipes been sold out since march. i use those for general cleaning all over the house and use iso alcohol for cleaning resin and many other everyday things.

its been pretty well established at this point that covid does not spread via surfaces, so constantly disinfecting surfaces in the home, wiping down high touch areas in public, or trying to disinfect groceries are a waste of time...it does not spread that way. wash/sanitize your hands regularly and after touching high touch areas with normal old soap...thats it. all the clorox wipes and alcohol in the world is not going to make so much as a dent in risk as long as you are washing your hands regularly.

additionally, most of these disinfecting products require a minute or more of contact with a surface before they are able to kill all viruses and other microorganisms, so wiping down things like public keypads on self checkouts or atms are useless unless you keep that surface wet with disinfectant for at least 1 min...if i remember correctly clorox wipes take 2min...so if you are just wiping down a surface and them immediately using it after wiping, there is still a ton of potential coronavirus there, which is unlikely to spread via surfaces anyhow.

wear the mask, wash your hands, keep distance, and thats about as good as it gets. STOP BUYING ALL THE CLOROX WIPES

btw the crowd cow site does not have actual wagyu, thats wagyu x angus grown in america and that kind of beef is in general pretty comparable to USDA prime. real wagyu is far more expensive than that and comes with a certificate of authenticity. selling ground wagyu is a huge red flag - there is no point whatsoever in ground wagyu beef, or wagyu hamburgers. wagyu beef is great because of the intramuscular fat, which is what makes a steak juicy....tiny little veins of fat running thru the meat. if you want more fat in ground beef, you can just add more fat. the amount of intramuscular fat is irrelevant for ground beef. wagyu hamburgers or grinding wagyu beef in general is like taking the stankest top shelf expensive cannabis and cooking it into cannabutter...yeah, those flowers had more thc by weight, and that thc is now in the cannabutter, but you could have used the same amount of cheap flower and fortified it with distillate for much, much less money, and the end result would be exactly the same. ground wagyu and wagyu burgers is a marketing scam to get people to spend more money on overpriced meat.

TMI, BK. Nobody wants to hear about your "shit bag", bra.

Maybe we are the problem if we think toilet paper is gonna save us from Covid? Just a thought.

You are the very first person I have seen anywhere say or post anything about TP saving us from Covid. Where did you get that?

People just need it to wipe there asses and it is not as available as it used to be.That is what people are talking about in this thread.

Do you not wipe your ass after defecating, Timpane? Is that what makes you mistakenly think we all believe TP will "save us from Covid"?

What? No, Six. The public seems to think that buying TP is of major importance as an example of the recent hoarding and fear purchasing of TP. This is representative of major issues within the human mind when they cannot cope with fear. Maybe that's an issue is all I'm saying.

You alright this morning, Six?

Trust me, pal, I've given no details of the shitbag.

Either way, my shitbag stories are way more interesting than the useless and cringey  garbage you post.

^Looks like a little troll is feinding for another all day internet battle. No spot taken. Just go clean out your nasty shitbag and STFU. Wash your dirty ass armpits too man.

No, no, I actually add some sort of substance to this board. You just sniff the assets of dudes who are 20-30 years older than you, and spout your generally asinine and incorrect shit. Coupled with you overall history here, that makes you the sad little troll. But you already know that.

I'm fine this morning.

The world, though, apparently is not.

You're just gross man. Get a fucking life. Sniffing asses? Lol, you got some issues and you're just an old washed up piece of trash. Must suck being a burnout geezer who has to justify himself trying to desperately condescend to earn attention, eh? Good luck

anybody ever buy the freshly harvested zoo animals?

they're incredible. texture. flavor. color.

Timpy, you are the king of projecting.

^Your life has boiled down to trolling younger men on a drugband message board and cleaning out your shitbag, dude. Time to admit that maybe it's you?

not gonna lie.

drugs are the best.

It sounds like we have confirmation that Timpane drags his ass across the carpet. Good work here, folks.

well played ras

I see Timpy is flailing about, as usual. TGIF!

Not going in any stores till after Xmas. I tend to avoid shopping during this time anyway, and now  between folks doing holiday food shopping combined with panic pandemic  shopping and Covid rates soaring, I'm pretty happy that we're well stocked on non perishables.  We get a weekly CSA veggie box and can always order instacart or WF/Amazon deliveries, or just hit up my neighbors who make trips to Costco.

We missed your boring copying and pasting of political trash last couple days, Ned. Good to see you back.

Mike Edwards>>

Kiss my ass.

>Kiss my ass.

Is this you way to bring the discussion back to toilet paper or lack thereof?

About to go grocery shopping...

This is as close as I get to a black Friday shopping experience. Sharpened my elbows this morning

Pucker your lips, Nanc.

>About to go grocery shopping...

Don't do it. Pay the Instacart or delivery fee

Just read about a young couple who died from Covid and left their 4 year old an orphan. Mom spent the day shopping before falling ill..and then there's the cautionary tale you can read on 'I'm Back' thread. Even if masks are required, people don't follow the rules..

^nope, I pick out my own produce and meats. I've been grocery shopping just about every week since the beginning of this.

I've been shopping occasionally, but with the surge in cases and insane holiday shoppers, this is a just stupid time to be in the stores

good luck

^thanks.  I wear gloves and a mask, also have a vat of hand sanitizer in tow.

Our local hospitals are out of icu beds

But yokels are protesting outside the county health department for making masks a requirement and other covid protocols

Nancy is totally fine mooching off her neighbors when they're making a run into the covid fire, that is Costco.
but hey zoner - you a fool to go shopping.

blahahahahahahahaha

^i thought that was funny as well.

>Nancy is totally fine mooching off her neighbors when they're making a run into the covid fire, that is Costco.

Yes, it's perfectly fine!  My 30 something neighbor with 2 kids goes once a week to Costco, his choice.  He asks what I want and in exchange I give him whatever I'm cooking. Last week it was Hot and Sour Soup becauce he got  organic shitakes for me. I've also given them persimmon bread and homemade pumpkin pie.  It's a trade off. He's shopping regardless of what risks I think he's assuming. I'm sorry that you don't have neighbors who help each other out during the pandemic, and consider it "mooching" but that's how we do it here. Some folks are willing to take more risks than others. When I've  made trips to the grocery store, I ask my neighbors if there's anything they need, I'm just not going again anytime soon, too risky right now.  So I'm grateful for my neighbor who is happy to pick up a couple of items I need when I ask. The less people in the grocery stores, the safer for everyone.

I'm glad you found it all so very funny. We all could use some humor right now.

I'm  still laughing that you called it "Mooching" , so thank you!

blahahahahahahahaha

The Covid mooch. Just let someone else take the risk for you, lol. Doing your part!

Went to the grocery store and the book store. No much of a crowd at either.

There's the troll we all know and love.

isn't this just a troll site?

^it is what you make it

Don't worry Racket, nanz can't help being a busybody.  She over in the Thanksgiving thread posting about turkey and where to have it cooked.  A vegetarian of how many years?

You're welcome to share vegan recipes, Sarah and no need to dictate what others share. And yes, I was intrigued when I heard that family is taking their Turkey to be cooked off site. As a vegan, I wouldn't want a Turkey cooked in my oven, so it's a good option for folks like my sister who is vegan but serving a Turkey for family members who are not. The pizza oven is quite hot with rotating function and sounds healthier than frying a Turkey for those who like it crispy. I guess you could say she's 'mooching' oven space.

oh, since you asked I've been vegan for about 20 years, how long have you been a bitch?

Damn,

As Lumber trolls along....

4.7 and rising

don't blow nanzi...

No, Timpane,  I was responding to a point pyramid made.

You choose to be a troll. You revel in negativity.

Can you imagine the sad and empty life that Timpy leads? In however many years he admits to being at this, all he's ever done is brought negativity and trolling. Poor Timpy.

People, people!

can't u see this toilet paper thread is tearing us apart?!

My wife got everything we needed and didn't see any covid anywhere. I still need to get some Anchor Christmas beer for turkey dinner.

Actually, that was a passive aggressive troll, Lumber. Call it what you want but that's how it works. BK talking about trolling, lol. Still acting like a little bitch.

You can't even think of your own comebacks so you steal mine. Lmao

No, Timpane, it's a fact. This site is what you make it.

I think I understand why you believe that I'm trolling, it's like they say...

When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Nobody's stealing your comebacks. You are a troll. You call others "troll" as an ironic troll. So edgy...

^As you keep trolling for attention..... Keep going, everyone thinks you're really cool now.

So, BK you say I'm trolling but if you look above you first posted about your shitbag without anybody asking about it then making a joke. I responded that it was too much information and proceeded on the topic of the thread. After you started trolling me which led to back and forth trolling.

You talk about projecting a lot but it seems you don't really understand what "trolling" is and project onto me your issues with trolling people as you have done over and over again on this site.

You were the one who brought up your " shitbag" and made it a topic so I just said it was TMI.

So many words. And you called me a bitch? lol

I do think you're a little bitch, this is true. I thought it was funny too. If calling you a little bitch is trolling then I'm good with that.

You've shown yourself to be wrong about pretty much everything, so let's take that into consideration.

>>People, people!

can't u see this toilet paper thread is tearing us apart?!<<

lol

crap, only have 12 rolls left!

Store out of t.p.
Crap, only have 12 rolls left!
I hope this ends soon.

Timpy on his way to vote for Biden.

timp.jpg

Sorry, I can't spare a square.

I'm trading tp... 1 roll for 2lbs of dried rice and 2lbs of dried beans.

Plenty of TP.  Still no Lysol.

Red cooking wine back on the shelf as of a week ago for the first time since March.

Weird shortage of the day:  Frozen fries/tots/whatnot.  ~10 assorted items in about 30 feet of freezer case.

^Red cooking wine

I've always been told if the wine is not good enough to drink, then don't cook with it either.

It's funny, until recently I've always found grocery shopping to be a drudge.

For many years I had to do it multiple times a week for my work (my classes operated an on-campus student-run work site) so it was always just a necessary part of the grind.

I've also never enjoyed cooking, and being a single man making a decent wage with few expenses I've always eaten virtually all my meals in restaurants, but retirement & the plague have forced me to cook for myself, which has forced me to keep going to the stores a couple of times a week.

As I've gotten a little better at cooking I've started to enjoy it, and I've also begun looking forward to my shopping trips, which except for walking the dog are now the only time I ever get out.

I usually go to the pricier "upscale" grocery store because they have better meat & produce, and also because unlike my local Lucky's or Safeway there are less people in the store, and being a quality venue they always have plenty of open check-out lines so there's usually never a wait of more than 30 seconds, and often no wait at all.

The past couple of weeks though I've noticed lots more people even in that store, and I went into a Costo the other day and it was packed, so I walked right out.

Considering my age & existing health conditions (and those early images of freezer trucks lined up next to the morgues) I've been very leery of COVID from the start, and hearing the continuing horror stories in general, my neighbor's personal horror stories of working as a nurse in a COVID unit and a story from a friend who's been sick with it for over a month, I guess as winter comes and the plague continues to rage I'm going to start using a grocery delivery service.

It's depressing to realize that going to the grocery store has become a weekly highlight. I used to do lots of fun stuff!!!

"Vaccine" has now become my favorite word.

LET'S GO DRUGS!!!!!!

>>>>>Weird shortage of the day:  Frozen fries/tots/whatnot

Bad summer for potatoes in the west - too much heat. New crop is fine. Once it works its way down the processing and supply chain the frozen tots will be back.

Thanks for the spuds update, Surf. Tots are my favorite frozen potato product.

Tots are the best frozen potato product.  Don't eat them much but they are good!  Haven't noticed any shortages in the freezer section lately.

Mill Valley Safeway the other day.

Usually, your trolling would probably work better if you found a picture that doesn't have a water mark, JR. Glad that you think about me enough to spend time googling images like that. At least JR can admit he's a troll. I don't mind that. Lotta neo liberal trolls in denial on Viva and can't accept reality.

Paper products on low around my parts. These white folks take a lot of shits around here, I guess

^ you're trying to hard kid

feels forced, almost desperate

smh

^Speak of the devil. Another neo liberal troll in denial.

Try posting something about the topic, tod

I guess as winter comes and the plague continues to rage I'm going to start using a grocery delivery service.<<<

Is there a curbside pickup option nearby?  I'm able to order everything online, set a time, and pull into a space and have everything wheeled directly to my car.  It's free for City Market in Colorado (Kroeger elsewhere).

>>> Try posting something about the topic, tod <<<

try harder kid, it's really working out well for ya

smh

Lance, I hear that Costco has "Senior or vulnerable people shopping hours" that are spacious. I think they're pretty early in the day. My friends go then and remark on how there aren't very many people at that time. I'm not a member but my friends shop for me while they're there.

Most of my shopping is done with pre-ordered curbside pickup and it works really well. I do it where I used to shop and the produce is good so they can't mess it up too badly. Everyone once in a while they pick or substitute something I wouldn't, but it's a small price to pay for the safety of not going into the store. I'm lucky that I have a couple of friends who shop at other places and include my stuff if I want anything.

Stay safe, eat well.

Thod are you in troll denial? Seems like you can't grasp the fact that you're a troll. Viva looks down upon trolling.

^ yawn again

was walking through the freezer section and saw a large amount of empty freezers

checked closer

apparently hot pockets must be a food group for some people

who knew...

^troll denial runs deep.

*sigh*

The neighborhood Safeway in Seattle's U-District just closed.  It will be demolished and rebuilt as a multi-story mixed-use complex with a new Safeway on the ground floor in 2022.  For the interim, the local Trader Joe's will be the only sizable grocery in the immediate area, which will be tricky, especially once the post-pandemic full student body returns to the UW.  I do most of my shopping at TJ's, but they are deficient in household goods, and there are a few nationally branded items I like that they don't carry, so I'll have to drive every once in a while now.

Nice batch of Groceries showed up yesterday.

Various cuts of Venison all freezer-wrapped and labeled,  killed here on the Farm and butchered a few miles away.

I helped load the (recently deceased) animal upon the hunter's truck just the other day;  it's weight was about 140 pounds Alive & Kickin'.
Then the guy shows up with a Bunch of Meat,  which went in the Freezer.

Might be the most "Localvore" batch of groceries in the pantry.
Some of my veggies come from here;  others I purchase in the Supermarket.

Anyway,  besides the Deer roasts, chops and Steaks,  plenty of Ground Deer,  which to me is a staple Food and goes in all sorts of Dishes from Chile to Soup.

A bit lean compared to Ground Cow.  Those Bambis get a lot of exercise,  so not much Fat.

This time of year they feast upon Acorns (those fall off the Oak Trees) so when I smoke the Meat,  I prefer Cherry to blend with the Oaky flavours.

Everyone once in a while they pick or substitute something I wouldn't, but it's a small price to pay for the safety of not going into the store<<<

City Market gives you an alert prior to curbside pick-up if they're out of anything; then offers particular substitutions that you can accept or decline online via their app.

We just did a big Instacart order from New Seasons for the last of the Thanksgiving stuff rather than mess around with the zoo at the store down the street.   Problem is they are backed up on orders and hopefully we will get it by this evening.  Biggest down side of Instacart is picking out produce and their selection of "replacement" items for things not in stock.  On this last order, we told them to please not try to replace certain items.

Instacart also delivered the last order to the wrong house, but the neighbors who got it were kind enough to drop it off on the porch.

Glad you are stocked up on the venison Stu.   I don't eat commercially harvested animal products, but don't have a problem with wild game.   My first wife's dad was a bona-fide Wyoming cowboy who moonlighted as a hunting guide.  We always had a freezer full of ground antelope and all sorts of cuts, and like deer, its a pretty lean meat.

but who will think of the insta shoppers?

The instacart shoppers are essential workers and should be paid/tipped generously. Less people shopping indoors  is a good thing and all  grocery stores and restaurants should be offering curbside pick up. in fact, it makes sense to close all grocery stores and restaurants and only have pickup/delivery. It should have all been subsidized months ago to slow the spread.
Much Gratitude to all essential  workers such as delivery workers, grocery workers, health care workers and teachers risking their own health during the pandemic for the rest of us

Biggest down side of Instacart is picking out produce<<<

Same deal with curbside pickup, but luckily have found they're pretty good about not unloading overripe / bad produce upon those who order online and imagine there's an incentive not to create problems to promote future sales by at least making an effort.  But yeah, you don't get the opportunity to pick out the "best of the bunch".

Another thing I've run into is getting three dozen eggs and a package of English muffins that expired on the pickup day, but not discovering it until getting home 1.5 hours later.  Store was great about giving me a credit, but learned to immediately look at expiration dates on these sorts of items before I leave.

Lance - I enjoyed running into you at the Smart and Final a few months back

which besides being a great name, is rarely crowded and is usually well stocked , prices are pretty darn good - I have a habit of  remembering  prices per ounce for things that  I buy and places like Costco really are not cheap tbh

( Red licorice vines are on sale at S&F too!) - booze - total wine and more is the winner

Ya' know Jammin' J, that day may well have been my last shopping trip for the Homestead Smoothie Shop.

In a way I'm glad it ended without me knowing it was the end.

I tend to get sentimental about things.

I ran that little shop for 17 years. I was worried about saying goodbye, but it said goodbye to me before I knew it.

Probably better that way.

On it goes.

Grocery Outlet  has even better deals than Smart and Final. Instacart does offer delivery from Smart and Final. But yeah, I used to like shopping for bargains in person. Unfortunately there's no way to get delivery from Trader Joe's. Food costs have definitely risen and with the surcharges/tips added to delivery services, it's getting pretty crazy. We've ordered take out only a few times from our favorite restaurants and have noticed about a 30 percent increase in prices - that's without delivery.  Pretty sure our overall grocery costs have increase at least by that much.
