Ian Hunter Shows

Forums:

Just a heads up for fans of Ian Hunter from Mot the Hoople and his prolific solo career.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is still alive and playing some shows here in the US this year.

The tour kicks off at the Boulton Center in Bayshore, NY 5/6. There are a few seats left. The sound is amazing and not a bad seat in the house. (I'll be there, I'm a member, lets hook up)

Ian plays a place in New Jersey called the Stone Pony for a song and some shows in NYC and Ct. too.

Opps, the not yet in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and should be Ian Hunter.

He plays NYC a lot.. I try and never miss a show..his residency last year at City Winery before the Box Set release was tremendous, seeing him again in a few weeks (also at CW). His last solo album is excellent, the Rant band is killer as well..Legend! See him if you can..

Very cool Rick. Thank you very much for that. This would be my first Ian Hunter show. I have third row seats, I'm a VIP member and got a week advanced notice on tickets sales. (There a about 5 seats left for the Bayshore, NY show)

First Ian show..Nice, going have a feeling it won't be your last..

It was a no brainer. I got the email and grabbed the tickets right away. (Not only is he one the craftiest/legendary songwriters ever, the man is chick magnet)

I haven't even been to the show yet and I know I want to see him again.

The sound at the Boluton Center in Bayshore is large & amazing. Great place to see a show, 250 seats and not a bad seat in the house.

Enjoy your Ian Hunter show at the City Winery, Rick.

Saw him w Mick Ronson & band open for Utopia at The Pier in Central Park in 81 and a few other times in 81-84. The show w Utopia was awesome. Dude is absolutely a legend. Mick Ronson was also incredible(R.I.P.) .

Oh I will thanks..i just saw him a couple of months ago at CW and he's always good for summer and winter dates in the  city as well. Plus outside the staples he mixes up the setlist..I'm in Hicksville but it seems like Bayshore and the Boulton Center seems like much more of a trek than the city..ha!! Enjoy and post what you thought of the show, I'm interested in what you thought of the performance...Ian is a class act..

I am friends with some members of The Rant Band. They are awesome, including Paul Page on Bass, Steve Holley on Drums (ex Wings, Elton, Joe Cocker, you name it) You are gonna have a blast, Odysseus!

Thanks, dj. I hear folks rave about the Rant band, I'm really looking forward to this show.

Fantastic Ian Hunter & the Rant Band show at the Boulton Center in Bayshore, NY tonight.

Ian Hunter is such a gifted song writer. musician (guitar & keys) and showman its beyond description. The man is in great health too.

He came out rocking, second song in and we were into "One Bitten, Twice Shy", all the great Hunter songs, like - All American Alien Boy. Mot the Hopple classics, All the Way to Memphis, and the classic Bowie penned "All the Young Dudes".

Ian mixed in songs off his latest release "Finger crossed", Dandy (the David Bowie tribute), Morpheus, and Stranded in Reality.

Closed the show with Goodnight Irene.

The young Rant Band are excellent. But the drummer Steve Holley (Wings '78-'81) is a monster of a drummer who needs a big room with wood floors for a large sound. Awesome drummer.

I am a new Ian Hunter and he knows it. I was 2nd row, blown away and he high fived me at the end of the show. :toke:

Opps. I meant to write, "I am new Ian Hunter fan."

Welcome aboard, luckily the older guys in the schoolyard  controlled the radio and turned me on to some great artists..As I said he plays NY a lot so I doubt this will be your last Ian show..

Thanks Rick.  I woke singing "Just Another Night". Can not wait to see him again!

Oh no, the fuzz, all in a line
My oh my, I think I'm gonna die
And it's just another night
It's just another night

Got a long black face; Who goes there?
All the reefer madnessput a poor kid in jail
And it's just another night
Yeah, it's just another night

can hear Ian singing it "ni-hi-yi-ght" at the end. and the crowd singing "on the other side!" throughout ..legend, still putting out quality stuff, I think Fingers Crossed is stellar ..

Ian Hunter & the Rant Band ~ Hoboken Arts & Music Festival - 6-12-16

Ian Hunter_president.jpg'

Great Album!

Hi DJ!

I purchased Fingers Crossed (2016) & Ian Hunter  & the Rant Band ♦ Live In the UK (2015) at last night's show.

He sang "When I'm President", but the CD was not for sale.

I am very familiar with Ian Hunter's repertoire and legendary song writing skills.

However-

What I was not familiar with how he puts it all together in a Little Richard like rock and roll package, with phenomenal singing, guitar playing, keyboard playing skills. Just a gifted individual all around. But mysterious and cool like Bowie. I'd invite him and the Rant Band for dinner for sure.

I forgot Ian played Sweet Jane, until right now.

One of my best all time concert experiences ever. Like Rick said "Legendary!"

Wow! Nice photograph DJ. Sorry, just noticed it. Cool.

The show w utopia and and mick rates in the Epic part of the dial...no matter where it was....i woulda loved to have seen that tour...great thread about a great artist

A lot of stuff from those Hoboken shows he was doing every summer are up on Youtube..Not sure if you got this last week, but glad this is back in the rotation..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJGtySZwf8

Yeah he played that.  Ian hit the high notes and extend them extended nicely on that song. Amazing voice. It was the only, straight out blues like tune in the show.

....you gotta be crazy, to live in the city......

Ballad of Mott was a big favorite of mine.

Wish he was playing on the west coast.

Firing up "Fingers Crossed" (2016) here for the first time here. Sounds amazing! Great stuff.

Title track, Dandy, and Bow Street Runners are my favs..the album is a cracker enjoy, post what you think after..

"Bow Street Runners", you can here how Mick Jones from the Clash channels Ian Hunter. The CD rips from the start with That's When the Trouble Starts.

I YouTube'd Dandy (the David Bowie) tribute before the show, so was familiar with the chorus when it came around.

So many nifty phrases like 'Fifty Shades of Stupid' in "That's When the Trouble Starts", and 'Somebody pull the emergency cord, someone jumped overboard. I wound up in a maternity ward' in "Stranded in Reality". So many great lines, with that epic voice.

The title track "Fingers Crossed" is very strong. Very.

At the show Ian played what he said was a song in between albums called "Wings" that starts with a Steve Holley drum solo. That was hot.

It's been a "Long Time"!

Here is an interview with Ian Hunter ( & Joe Elliot) on a new TV show called Speakeasy.

It's almost an hour long.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNQJWWvs_Mg

Saw Joe join Ian for ATYD at some free outdoor show down in the financial district about 8 years ago or so..

>>>Wish he was playing on the west coast.

The Coach House show in San Juan Capistrano is only $25, and anyone that goes to that show, will have spent that $25 wisely.

"That's When the Trouble Starts"

"It looks so easy - Nothin to it, fast food - anyone can do it

You got your start on Karoake heading straight down the sewer of reality

You think your cool - You think your wicked, AHHHH, 50 Shades of stupid

After your 15 minutes of fame - Look out, here comes the howlin rain.

That's when the trouble starts, That's when the trouble starts..That's when the trouble starts, now its your middle name!

78 years old and absolutely ripped it up.. no doubt the band wanted to put on a show for Ian's Birthday and they really did. Ian laughing and smiling all night.. Wish I was your mother, Bastard, fatally flawed, long time and a chorus of Happy Birthday with crowd standing with raised glasses and led by steve holly were some highlights..

Oh, boy. That show is going to be blast Zooey!

Very happy someone from Viva is going to a West Coast Ian Hunter show.

Have a great time.

{Pick up his CD Fingers Crossed when there, it's fantastic}

Thanks Zooey.  35.oo for standing room only.

48.75 after fees.  Fuck Live Nation.  Usually they are enough for me to boycott a show if they are only ticket outlet. Oh well, eat it this time. Got one for the filmore.

Mark, don't miss Chuck Prophets opening set.  He's probably my favorite under the radar guy.

It's going be a fantastic show, Mark. So glad you grabbed a ticket! Have fun.

Tonight is Ian Hunter at the Coach House.

Zooey if your still going, try not be late. These guy come out rocking.

It happens kind of quickly, and your like "Holy Shit, I'm in the same room with Ian Hunter & his Rant Band. Bringing it big time."

Mark & Zooey have fun.

Post Addendum: Note, Timmy said Chuck Prophet is the opener

Wow, Ian Hunter was my 1st show as a student at Rutgers in the fall of 1981, when he was touring "Short, Back and Sides", which ended up getting a lot of play within my fraternity pledge class that fall/winter. I knew of Mott the Hoople at that point, but didn't really know what to expect of his solo show. The energy at that show definitely helped feed my growing addiction to live music that continues to this day. Listen back, the album is a little dated musically, but still has a place in my history.

That's neat Zeke.  I know what you're saying about his energy. He got me going to shows again.

That was fun. Was a last minute decision and I am glad that I went. Great to see him still Rock'n out.  Voice is not as it was, but has held up rather well for his age.

First time seeing Chuck Prophet. I was impressed. Will probably check out his set at HSBF.

I first saw Mott The Hoople in Fresno somewhere around 1973.  I had been a fan for some time. Had a couple of their albums. Caught a lot of shit from my buddies about liking that "British fag band".  Ok, so they come to Fresno opening for "Golden Earing"(a one hit band) and Ronnie "Montrose" who was huge at the time. MTH blew the fucking place up. Just rocked the house down. The rest of the concert, during both remaining band's sets, my friends and a good many others were yelling "MOTT THE HOOPLE"!!!!!   I gained some creds that night.

Only a net 3 hour drive on a Friday evening, it could have been much worse.   Got home in a little over 2 hours.

Every time I am at the Fillmore, I am blown away by the magic of that place. I now know exactly what to do with a time machine when I come across one. Take it to the Poster Room at the Fillmore. I could spend yrs going back to all those phenomenal shows.

So, anyway, this is usually the kind of show that I hear about after the fact. But, thanks to you, Bluelight, I am very glad to say I did not miss this one.

The power of the fourth encore song, All the Young Dudes, took me a bit by surprise. It was almost like being back in Fresno in the early 70's. Powerful. Fun.

Oh my God. This is so freaking awesome!

Ian Hunter is an amazing and gifted man, who's songs "Rock-Off-The-Tip Of Your-Tongue"

We all know many of his songs. But if you think about Ian Hunter's songs are so fantastic, he's so prolific via rhyme, all the time.

Think about what we're saying here. Ian Hunter at the Fillmore!

So glad you went Mark. I was willing to pay homeless person to go for me, to report back.

I want to see Chuck Prophet too, as he's Viva approved. But it looks like he has no interest in NY right now

Ian Hunter's world tour ends in November and his drummer/friend Steve Holley is playing in some benefits around the NY area.

One back at the Boulton Center in Bayshore with Denny Laine from Wings. Maybe Ian will show up, chew gum & sing a song for a good cause.

Love that guy.

Well I drunk a lot of wine
And I'm feeling fine
Gonna race some cat to bed
Is this concrete all around
Or is it in my head
Oh brother you guessed I'm a dude

All the young dudes
Carry the news
Boogaloo dudes
Carry the news

7/28/79 - $8.00 (including fees)  THE KINKS (Low Budget Tour) @ The Spectrum w/Ian Hunter & Mick Ronson

The 6th concert I ever attended, I went with a group of friends from the neighborhood. Ian Hunter was riding high touring the album You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic. His set blew us all away, so much so that I temporarily forgot there was more to come (The Kinks)

Great Story Voodoo.
