Looks like a fine lineup behind DSO.

Don't miss Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. They were great at Hangtown last yr.

GreenTunaEarth. Good stuff.

Never been to the Valley. I would have traveled the extra miles this year if the DNBs were performing.

I was half hoping they'd swing by Delfest on the way to a couple east coast shows sad

Get well David, soon come.

Have FUN G-Fish and All !

In

First timer

Looking forward to it.

Any tips on camping (e.g. where to try to camp, etc.)?

^^^ not MarkD -- this will be my first time at Legend Valley too

I was hoping that Lagerandgospel would check in here, as he's apparently attended all 5 of the DSO Jubilees so far, and would likely have some pointers about camping and such

I searched for and found a previous VLZ thread on the Jubilee, and was reminded that Peglet and Tracy were planning on going this year... hope so!

Yaaaaay!

No Jubilee this year for me (((sad face)))

Have a blast, the lot of yas:)

Gary, very nice! I am in as well, and yes, this is my 6th year. I'm happy to answer any questions. Spring is really busy for me, and up until I leave I am cranking out work and house projects until our departure, and the time to relax is so so needed.

It's a small intimate festival, about 4,000 people. Are you camping general admission, VIP, RV, ADA?

Lager, I'm camping GA. Any tips or pointers on the best places to set up camp (e.g., with some shade, not too close to restrooms, etc.), and places to avoid?

are you also GA camping?

I see that the gates open at noon on Friday... is it recommended to arrive well before that & "get in line" to have a chance at scoring a decent camping spot?

definitely would like to make your acquaintance at some point during the fest... my digits are 7 aught 7, too 9 ate, ate too 9 9

Gary,

Would love to meet up. There is another former zoner who should be there too, Fark, if you remember him.

If you are camping GA, you have basically two options. You can camp in the main parking area by your car, and walk down to the venue for the music, or, you can camp in the venue itself at the concert bowl. It is a BYOB event-bring any and all alcohol you need, and you can bring it, along with coolers of food, into the main concert area, just don't bring glass. Most GA campers camp within the venue so they can have access to all their stuff and also hear the music from their tent if they want. I think a smart spot is within the main entrance to the venue to the left along the fence and behind the pines tree grove, if you are looking for high ground in case of rain. That being said, there is no bad spot-they are all good. Look at pictures of the Jubilee and you should get a sense of the camping set up. If you arrive when the gates open, you'll be able to have better choices for camping.

I won't be in GA camping-my wife is performing with Owsley County, so I will be in artists camping, but I will be around all weekend. I should arrive around noon on Friday. I will call or text you, and we can clink glasses of beer. Down near the stage is a large group of us with rugs for dancing. It's a tradition to have a rug party at the jubilee, so feel free to join us.

Where are you coming from? If you have a lot of stuff (tent, coolers, etc), and you are camping in the main concert bowl, bring a wagon if you have one, it makes the walk easier from the car.

Lager, THANKS for all the tips & info!

cool that your wife is in Vorty's band... been wanting to see them for awhile

and yes, we will drink a toast when we meet up... but we might not be "clinking glasses," as bottles are prohibited inside the concert area laugh

The following is a rough and quick sketch on the camping areas of the festival.

A. General Admission camping within Concert Bowl

B. General Admission Camping within Concert Bowl

C. Vendor Row by pine tree grove

D. Main Parking lot outside of concert venue (you can camp at your car if you want, its a grassy field).

E. ADA camping for disabled folks, restricted camping.

F. Family Camping, restricted.

G. VIP RV Camping

H. GA RV Camping

I. VIP Camping

hope this helps!~

^^^ wow!

great info & map Lager... very helpful!

Way COOL !

Lager,

This is the best!

Quick questions:

  1. if one wants to camp in A or B, do you park your car in D and mule all your gear to somewhere you like in A or B?
  2. if this is a yes, is there a gate checkpoint between D and A or B you have to pass through if you want to go back and forth to your car?
  3. if you are in A or B, can you hear the music from all or most spots?
  4. finally, coming from central ny. can't imagine I can get there before 3:00pm on Friday, based on your experience, how packed will camping sections be by then? would I have a shot at a decent spot?

Thanks!

if one wants to camp in A or B, do you park your car in D and mule all your gear to somewhere you like in A or B?: Yes, you will park in D and mule your gear down to the main concert venue, which includes A & B.

if this is a yes, is there a gate checkpoint between D and A or B you have to pass through if you want to go back and forth to your car? Yes again. In the picture above, at the left tip of the pine grove in area A, where areas D & H are closest to A, is a gate for the concert bowl that you have to pass through to go from your car to the concert bowl, or vice versa.

if you are in A or B, can you hear the music from all or most spots? YES! The sound is most excellent at nearly all spots! Its a natural amphitheater, so its very good almost all places within the concert venue that includes areas A and B. Great sound at this venue and at the Jubilee.

finally, coming from central ny. can't imagine I can get there before 3:00pm on Friday, based on your experience, how packed will camping sections be by then? would I have a shot at a decent spot? I think even coming at 3 you will have a good chance at getting a decent spot. Its a small festival, about 4,000. In the previous years, it didn't quite fill up until Saturday, but obviously the best spots are taken, but even looking at the picture above you can see some places where you could find pitch a tent. I think you will have no problems. That being said, every year is different. They had a few lean years, and then last year sold out, so...will they this year? Not sure!

The local police are very friendly, but as a FYI, the highway patrol will be out on I-70 about 20 miles east and west of the venue. Just drive safely and responsibly and you'll be fine. I've never had an issue. I'd love to meet up with you as well and share a beer. Shoot me your details and we'll make it happen.

Kudos Lager. Going above and beyond.

Lager,

One MarkD and the other (not MarkD mdono1) agree!

Many thanks, very helpful. Have to sit with the bride tonight and see if we want to mule the ridiculous amount of gear we've (I've) laid out or just hope for a nice spot near some trees in D.

Driving over 7 hours and not necessarily concerned about the pack in, but more of the pack out on Monday morning when I'm sure our old bones will be ragged, but right!

As for our details, a pair of semi-old timers (mid 50's) been searching for the sound pretty hard since 1981. First timers here at the Jubilee and breaking out the camping gear for first time in over 10 years (hotels in and around Port Chester is our want these days!). Been doing the Peach the last few years and paying the piper (CID Entertainment) for comfort at Hampton Inn. Bailing on that this year and doing Jubilee and Lockn for 1st time. Very excited for it all! [email protected]

That looks like a lot of fun. One of these years.... not this year.

Have a blast, all who attend!!

Went last year with my son. Camped next to our car in the lower left corner of square D on the diagram in the previous post.

Thought it was a well thought out festival, great amounts of vendors and friendly folks. Port o pots were the cleanest I have ever seen! Great music, great vibe all around. Sound, lights, all good, plenty of room to dance. Bright lights around any port o pot location FYI. Would go again, just can't this year.

Enjoy, Ya Freaks!

**** DSO will be playing Hangtown Music Festival this year ****

Have a great time phreaks!

Not in the cards for us this year.

We are there in spirit.angel

Tomorrow I pack up. I keep it simple these days and don't cook at the campsite anymore, and that saves me alot of stuff to bring. If it makes you feel any better, its really not that big of a location, so you won't have to travel too far most likely. If you know anyone that has a wagon or a dolly, I'd borrow it for that monday morning trip to the car.

Have a good trip!

in Dayton w/ my friend Ray... we're driving over tomorrow morning and expect to be arriving at the festival site by noon

and so... the adventure begins!

Have a great time everyone!

This all sounds very sweet and like big fun. Looking forward to reports as available.

Bring your rain gear

^^^ Bring your rain gear

yeah, I see that there may be showers on Saturday, and rain on Sunday... not gonna dampen my spirits though!

Have a blast Gary!

Hey now Viva La Zonahs! Below are the DSO setlists from the Jubilee. I met up with Lager, Dino & the usual gang of Grateful Dead fan wing nuts along with Team Us members from across the USA. However the awesome added guest that I met purely by chance this year was GaryFish! I turned around during Hot Tuna acoustic on Saturday afternoon and recognized him and when I introduced myself I said "High, Are you Garyfish from the Philzone?" he said "Yes, how did you know that?" I replied "I recognized you from photos posted on the Philzone!" We hung out quite a bit after that on & off for the next 2 days and it was awesome! Jubilee sold out for the second year running! It's always such a great festival that I am sure that I will be there again next year! I also made another new pal when I met John Kadlecik's sister, Sarah. Her and her beau camped directly across from my crew's camping spot and it was cool to meet & hang with her as well!
