Issue with new Grateful Dead 1st LP remaster on CD with live disc

Forums:

I got the new 2 CD set of the remastered 1st GD album yesterday and went for the live disc from Vancouver 1966 which just blew me away. Today I played the disc with the LP itself and was bummed to discover a massive level drop during the 3rd or 4th line in The Golden Road track at the start of the disc. Has anyone else found this issue or do I just have a bad disc. It seems to me like this would be a mastering issue and show up on other copies. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks folks.

Not yet recieved.

Am I really the only Deadhead in America to play this? Bump for feedback.

No, but you may be the only other one on this site that custied up for it.

Yeah i didn't even hear about this release...

and I don't buy CD's.

i did buy an $85 vinyl box set from a different band recently, only to find one of the albums is improperly pressed (when played it sounds 'slow'), but just part of one of the albums...

still not certain what to do about that.. contact the record company who pressed it?

Hey CT...usually the retailer you purchased from should help out with a refund if that's what you want.

Hey now.

the thing is, the box set is limited, and they (record store) only got one copy.. and it's worth almost double face value once you buy it.. so it seems ridiculous to go ask for a refund. But I'm really perplexed as to the bad pressing. I'm curious if it's isolated, or all the box sets. Can't seem to find anything online. Also don't have much experience with bad pressings of vinyl- this is the first time I've encountered it.

Keep it sealed and resell it....you'll find an open one much cheaper down the line

Won't someone please listen to the new Grateful Dead CD remaster and tell me if they hear a drop in audio level about 3 lines into the first track, Golden Road. I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this. Its hard to believe this flaw is specific to my disc, as I've never experienced that in almost 40 years buying discs.

Eli, do you also have the cd of the 1st album? How does that compare to the new release cd?

I don't have the new one to listen to.  You could use EAC to rip first track, Golden Road, and then share it with some Zoners to get feedback.

I believe it. The new masters and mixing of GD material for commercial releases(especially live releases) have been absolutely terrible. Bush league stuff, really. I've found all types of bad mixing and mastering in the Dave's Picks series. I just gave up on that guy. He doesn't really know what he's doing.

you may be the only other one on this site that custied up for it<<<

Are the Custies and Ballers going to rumble after school, before the sock hop?

I didn't listen to the torrent I illegally downloaded yet

one of the greatest albums ever..  cant wait to hear it remastered

XM played the first four tracks and I didn't hear any drop outs. It wasn't perfect but very cool.

The Morning Dew sounded very nice.

MY Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab release of Mars Hotel is missing the first three notes of US Blues.

Don't know if they F'd the re-master or I got a "special" copy.

ELI: Did you try asking on any other forums?

Y'know.  More custy; less snarky?smiley

I played this on Spotify and there is no level drop present. I'm still trying to determine if this level drop at the beginning of the first track is a pressing problem, to determine whether I should try to replace the disc. It seems like quality standards for pressed CDs is really going down hill lately.

I hate to break the news to you but no one is putting money into pressing cd's.

Well, Jonas, based on the deafinging silence in reply to my query I can see why. No one's buying, and those who are aren't listening.

I listened, did not notice any volume drop.

Just listened to the ripped CD out of the ipod, no volume drop.

A pal of mine reports no drop on his copy either.

Thanks so much for the feedback LeS G. Firebird. I appreciate the info.

don't remember there being any problems with the first golden road 12 disc GD studio box which included the golden road track but hey if it's rhino ymmv / buyer beware
