Oh mommy
I ain't no commie
I'm just doing what I can to live the good all American...Way
It says right there in the constitution
It's really A ok to have a revolution
When the leaders that you choose
Really don't fit the shoes

Oh mister
I ain't no sister
I believe in the bill of rights come on don't you start a fight...Please
I like to wear my hair long
How can there be anything wrong
When you already 'cused me twice
Of looking like Jesus Christ Hallelujah

I'm only gettin' tired of playing Punch and Judy
I'm really half a mind to go and do my duty
Like Mr. Patrick Henry said
I got to be free or dead

Mr. Nixon
I ain't a fixin'
To speak Spanish on a plane or polish off the liberty...Bell
I just want to sit here on the shelf
And watch you finish off the place by yourself
Please let me do what I wanna
I'll just lay around the house and smoke Marijuana oohoo

It says right there in the constitution
It's really A ok to have a revolution
When the leader that you made
Just don't make the grade
Oh mommy
I ain't no commie
But I hate to bust your bubble cause there's gonna be some trouble...Soon

That's awesome!

I could see DNB doing that one.

Great track, thanks Judit!

Wow hidden gem

Garcia and politics is a slightly awkward thought.

Cream Puff War

No, no! She can't take your mind and leave
I know it's just another trick she's got up her sleeve

I can't believe that she really wants you to die
After all it's more than enough to pay for your lie

Wait a minute, watch what you're doin' with your time
All the endless ruins of the past must stay behind, yeah

Well, can't you see that you're killing each others soul
Well, you're both out in the streets and you got no place to go

Your constant battles are getting to be a bore
So go somewhere else and continue your cream puff war

let's try voting for the democrats first?

John Kahn on bass.   Could these sessions be where Jerry met John?

<<<>>>let's try voting for the democrats first?

his name is bernie sanders. try not to hold us back, ok buddy.

Nice thread, Judit.

So great to be reminded of Brewer and Shipley and to see you turn folks on to them. Love 'em. So many meaningful songs that were part of "the movement" then. And those harmonies.

This is a GREAT Brewer and Shipley album I've had for years, a great retrospective with lots of great songs. https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/2412001

To see so many available so inexpensively is surprising.

Seems Like a Long Time    1970

War time is only the other side of peace time
But if you've ever seen how wars are won
You know what it's like to wish that peace would come
And don't it seem like a long time
Seem like a long time, seem like a long, seem like a long, long time

Streets of America  1993

We came on the Santa Maria    And we come on the Sloop John B

We keep coming ‘cause we heard      There was a place we could be free

From the shores of many nations       We’re blown here by the wind

Sweet lady of the harbor      Won’t you kindly let us in

I see so many faces     Coming here from so many places

For a chance on the streets of America

Leaving home, losing pride     Some suffer, some simply die

For a glance at the streets of America

I’m not sure why they call it the land of the free     But I know why they call it the home of the brave

I see sisters and brothers    Trading one heartache for another

And a shot at the streets of America

I got brain damage

From takin’ those drugs

Brain damage from smokin’ those rugs

All I got to show for my time is

Just an empty head

I got mind slippage

My memory has flown

Mind drippage.  My thinker’s been blown

All I got to show for my trouble is just what I said

Just a hollow head hangin’ on a pile

Of some bones and some blood and some water

If cancer ain’t far it’s a nuclear war

So tell me son what does it matter

I got toad livers from drinkin’ that booze

And road shivers from paying those dues

All I got to show for my time is just an achin’ head

I got dirty ways from livin’ that life

And thirty days for beatin’ my wife

All I got to show for my trouble is just an empty bed

And a hollow head hangin’ on a pile

Of some bones and some blood and some water

If cancer ain’t far it’s a nuclear war

So tell me son what does it matter

I got brain damage

From takin’ those drugs

Brain damage from smokin’ those rugs

All I got to show for my time is

Just an empty head

I got mind slippage

My memory has flown

Mind drippage.  My thinker’s been blown

All I got to show for my trouble is just what I said

I got brain damage

From takin’ those drugs

Brain damage from smokin’ those rugs

All I got to show for my trouble

Is just what I said

I heard Oh Mommy on the GDHour.  Sort of an Unusual Jerry guest-spots segment.  Also had two tunes with Jerry backing Country Joe (Starship Ride and Clara Barton).  Probably a few more.  Maybe some New Riders?

The cassette may actually be easy to find.  One of a handful with a green j-card from a set I bought in the lot somewhere.  10 out of [fuck if I know how many].
