I think so. IMO marches don't phase tptb because whichever side you're on, they use it as division fuel. What we need is for there to be financial consequences for the unmoved wealthy jerks.
While i appreciate a big group of people showing up somewhere and standing together or marching, I agree it's not going to do anything. There needs to be a real wrench in the gears
People who don't earn much would likely go to work, so a strike wouldn't shut everything down, but that doesn't mean it couldn't send out some serious shock waves.
Trump wants to spend nearly $100 million for a military parade on June 14th, his birthday. That would be a great day to start a strike, and two months should be enough lead time to get it going.
> It would be a great day for the military to drag him through the streets (before facing a firing squad as all traitors should).
> What we need is for there to be financial consequences for the unmoved wealthy jerks. The wealthy jerks can easily outlast the general pop who would suffer more consequences and they'll still be wealthy jerks (now snickering) at the end of the boycott. If it were only so easy as to stop shopping (essentially do nothing).
> While i appreciate a big group of people showing up somewhere and standing together or marching, I agree it's not going to do anything. Totally disagree. This is just the start. There is strength in numbers. I've already seen an increase in interest in people running for office and becoming more politically active. 85 million people didn't vote (shame on the cheese weenies). Rally's serve to increase willingness to participate in democracy, get involved locally. The recent town halls where representatives have been challenged strongly are a fine example of resistance and now some politicians won't do them. Won't face their constituents. That's taking away the oppositions interaction with the communities.
We need people who are willing to take action, put in time and get organized to shift the tide. The Dems went limp, dropped the ball quite while back. Now we see the cost of a party that is weak, lacks serious organization, a clear direction with a long range plan and strong qualified leaders. Not vetting Biden is a glaring example of not doing due diligence, laziness and completely misreading overall sentiments. Then there is the painfully obvious lack of awareness that Democracy is not guaranteed and needs to be vigilantly protected. There will always be assholes looking to get over on others for their own gains and power.
So what next then? I do appreciate the assemblies, I'm just suggesting that isn't enough to stand up to what's happening now.. I don't think getting a bunch of people to vote in the next election is gonna stop what's rolling now either. The enthusiasm to gather is about a year late. But I'm not suggesting it stop by any means
As much as we are all outraged by what we are seeing, I think there is a core part of this country that is absolutely thrilled at every step. And I don't just mean the billionaire elites.
I don't know if it's time for a national strike, but it's certainly a good time for people to get together and help each other through whatever this is.

fishcane, I'm guessing your uncle is more the exception rather than the rule for MAGA types. I don't doubt there are people like him, but I think the rank and file--on both sides--are mostly caught up in the maintenance of their lifestyles, no matter how rich or meager that might be. Sure, folks spout off on the interwebz all the time, but it takes a whole lot to move people from talk to action.
A close (I think he'd say he's leftist) friend is preparing with weapons (guns including rifles, shotguns, handguns), bows and arrows, knives, and more) in case he needs to protect himself, his family and friends. He's really into it. He'd say he's woke and weaponized.
I can't get there at all. I think I'd be shocked by how many people I know have guns other than for hunting - do I want to know?

We're heading for a major
We're heading for a major recession or even depression. Many jobs will be lost, yet inflation will be high. (How does that even work?)
Against that background, I don't think there will be much appetite for a National Strike.
The only eventualities that would get things moving in the right direction would be intervention by the Republican Congress or the Republican SCOTUS.
How bad will things have to get for that to happen?
