I'm concerned too; I'm an avid Lake Powell bass fisherman, and my party has a houseboat booked for mid-May. I never answer blogs, but I will make an exception this time. I'm the CEO of the largest laboratory in Arizona, and the largest integrated laboratory in the nation; we're at the epicenter of COVID-19, and I'm on conference calls round the clock with the largest health system in Arizona, the state health department, and CDC. We will have full testing capability by next Thursday, at the latest. So far, the state health departments have been the only testing labs, with limited volume capability, and those patients tested have been exposed to symptomatic patients; only 1% have tested positive. The large labs, like ours, will have have an automated PCR test and we will be able to perform thousands of tests per day. Testing people that are concerned, not just exposed, will greatly reduce the fear factor in Arizona and the US. The Lake Powell operators can take the same precautions that are recommended and still inspect boats: stay 6 feet away, wear a mask, wash their hands frequently, and don't touch surfaces unless you have too; they can also test employees frequently or if they develop symptoms. I've already advised the state health department that our lab will support tent collection sites all over Arizona, including Page, Arizona. I sincerely hope that they don't close down Lake Powell, but I can assure you the state healthcare system is much better prepared than the public and media surmise, and we will get control of the Corona Virus.
