I've never been able to get into hockey, but wow...

Forums:

What a game in San Jose tonight.

I should have gone to bed two hours ago but I started watching that game. HOLYFUCKINGSHIT

this is good for Vegas fans though, it will build charchtwr

So glad the Sharks pulled that out after that hit. WHAT A TURNAROUND! WHAT A GAME!!!!

Long term fantasy wish - a trip to SF to catch a Stanley Cup Final game in San Jose with my Islanders.

Best Game EVAH...

Missed it for the Blazers game, which was another freaking incredible game!

Hockey is the only game where a player getting his head split open is a tactical maneuver used to overcome a three-goal deficit with nine minutes to go.

A little blood for the cause.

Hockey is a helluva' sport.

Hockey and arena football are two sports that are so much better when you GO TO THE GAME. They just do not translate the action to tv

Playoff hockey is great.

The regular season, not so much.

Playoff hockey is the best, and im a huge football and baseball fan. But, there is just no better playoff in sports than the Stanley Cup. Every game has chance to be a thriller , all you need is a one goal lead game heading into the third period, and the intensity is just off the charts. Factor in a game in overtime, add in a game 6, or 7, and again, there is just nothing better.

Not every 3-2 playoff baseball game is a great, edge of your seat watch. Every 3-2 stanley cup hockey game is. Weird.

I freakin love it.

Wow....i didnt know that San Jose s comeback was started after after a 5 minute major was called against Vegas on  a crosscheck. With all major penalties, if you score, you remain on the power play, and San Jose scored 4 goals during that penalty, erasing Vegas' 3-0 lead. Sure seems like thet got screwed, w a capital S....that s a shitty way to lose a lead, a game, and a series, for sure...bad job by the NHL, thats a two minute penalty all day long (after watching replay), the fact that the guy that got checked ended up getting hurt should not come into play, and per rules the call is at discretion of refs per severity of crosscheck. This was a 2 minute minor. Vegas got fckd.

Yes!

My Bruins won their game 7 earlier in the night.  I was at game 1, though my team lost... had a great time with my stepson regardless.

I fell asleep at first intermission- damn!  I always root for Joe Thornton as he came up through Boston.  Also was rooting for Vegas as they're just a cool story all around.

Goddamn do I love hockey!!!!

The Bruins series was also impacted in a huge way by a major penalty.  Nazem Kadri cross checked Jake DeBrusk in the face in game 2 and was subsequently suspended for the duration of the series.  Check it out if you haven't seen it.

Total bullshit call on the major. It was also goaltender interference on San Jose's 2nd goal. Guy had his skate in Fluerry's crotch.

Avalanche in 6!

If it goes to Game 7 the Sharks will take it.

Lance,

tactical move?

You still don't get it.

stick with baseball...

He was duly impressed and was quick to suggest
Any sport with a PUCK had to be 'bout the best
As he jabbed his elbow in her ("Get it honey? Get it?")

I was joking WALSTIB.

Well, mostly.

It is true that Pavelski getting his head bashed in and the major penalty called because of that WAS the reason the Sharks had the chance to win the game, right?

And you are correct that I don't get why such a severe penalty was given for that play, but what is and isn't a penalty in hockey has always confounded me.

Many people seem very upset by the ref's call. Is the complaint that the shove to Pavelski's chest should not have been called a penalty at all, or that it was a penalty but shouldn't have been the biggie, where a team can continue on a power play after they score, and score, and score, and score again?

>>>>Total bullshit call on the major. It was also goaltender interference on San Jose's 2nd goal. Guy had his skate in Fluerry's crotch.

well considering...

Vegas was up 3 games to 1 in the series

Vegas let up a shorthanded goal in OT to lose at home in game 6

Vegas was up 3-0 with 10 minutes left in 3rd period of game 7

Vegas took game 7 to OT and lost after 18 minutes

....it’s HILLARIOUS to blame the refs on this one.

GREAT game and SO HAPPY to see the expansion team on the sidelines at this point of the season, where they belong,

Lance, people are upset because their team lost. As far as the penalty goes, this one was pretty unique. You had Pavelski fall to the ice and lay there motionless before the refs blew the whistle to attend to him. When he finally moved his head you have a puddle of blood that you see forming on the ice,

If Pavelski wasn’t injured in such a graphic manner, would there have been a 5 minute major called? Probably not. They don’t look at replay for these type of calls so there’s that. The refs gathered together and figured out what to do. In hockey, the refs DO have the discretion to call penalties based on if the player is injured/bleeding. This is what they did. Perfectly within their discretion. Were they 100% right? No. In their official comment to the press they say that Eakin cross checked Pavelski in the face. He didn’t. (Honestly, I didn’t see what happened correctly until I saw slow mo replay.)

What should have been called? Maybe 2 minutes for Eakin for cross check and 2 minutes for roughing for the other Vegas player who actually shoved Pavelski to the ice when he was already going down on his own.

As far as hockey penalties being difficult to figure out, they aren’t. You just need to watch some games. It’s easier to pick up than baseball imho.

C'mon over to the NHL thread in the Sports Folder.

I used to watch it, until I realized it was the most blatantly rigged sport of all the pro sports. Takes all the fun out of it.

Still have an old Hartford Whalers sweatshirt kicking around somewhere lol

And yet another freakin great game 7 last night

>>most blatantly rigged sport of all the pro sports

lol, riggghtt.  You must not watch basketball I presume.

Just watch a Rockets game with Harden playing. BREATHE on the SOB and there's a whistle. Used to be like that with Jordan, too.

>>>And yet another freakin great game 7 last night

Agreed, Jambone. The chaos gets real intense when one goal can send a team home for the season. All top seeds are gone!

I was surprised to see Washington get dominated by Carolina in the OT's. I'm sure they're re-thinking the Barry Trotts departure.

As I said in the other NHL thread, I'm glad Washington won't repeat this year. We got enough Russians visiting the White House as it is.

>most blatantly rigged sport of all the pro sports<

Did they bring Bruce Hood back from the grave?
