I wonder if that's the talent Thom is speaking of. I think he can make a lot of good recordings go bad with his vocal style. I dig his instrumental sound.
As a producer and for his efforts in the restoration of old venues, I'll vote for white. Although, I loathe his music and his vocals. White is one of the only acts I've walked out on...terrible
Really like Jack White. But if we're talking about singing our beloved band's songs then neither. Can't stand Mayer's vocals but can't see Jack out there either.
I went to see a Robert Plant / Jack White double bill last year here in Santiago. Plant was/is a God, of course. White? I left after 3 songs. Boring, screeching diva who made us all wait an hour and a half so he could have stage set-up just perfect.
Plant barely even had any decorations. He just (shocker) focused on the music. White's head has gotten too big for his own good, IMO, and his music really isn't all that. It's decent, but nothing that moves me.
Jack White toured with two separate backing bands, one all-male, one all-female, randomly switching back and forth between the two. Advantage for being kooky.
John Mayer may get all the tail but is a ridiculously overrated musician.

I saw two shows on that tour; one with the all male band in Eugene, one all female band in NYC, both terrible.
I have no idea, Slack. I don't think any guitar players are expecting much out of either of those guys right now. They've been terrible for so long that it's just funny to watch people take a shit when they do one good thing. I honestly don't expect anything from guitar players anymore. Seems like they are all awful in every single genre. Not sure what happened to the art but it's long gone.
