Les McCann - Invitation to Openness (1972) (link

Les McCann - piano, electric piano, Moog synthesizer, arranger, conductor
Yusef Lateef - tenor saxophone, oboe, flute, pneumatic flute, plum blossom, temple bells
David Spinozza - guitar, electric guitar
Cornell Dupree - electric guitar
Corky Hale - harp
Jodie Christian - electric piano
Bill Salter - electric bass
Jimmy Rowser - bass
Donald Dean, Alphonse Mouzon, Bernard Purdie - drums, percussion
William "Buck" Clarke - African drums, percussion

Underrated gem of fusiony soul-jazz. Ridiculous lineup. Everything Les McCann and Eddie Harris did from 1969-1973, both together and seperately, is required listening.

Wow!......thanks for opening my ears to Les McCann!

I like the solo break and rhythm on this one

What The World Needs Now (Is Rugs, Sweet Rugs)

What the world needs now is rugs, sweet rugs
They're the only things that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is rugs, sweet rugs
No, not just for some, but for everyone

Lord, we don't need no more Viagra
We've got Prozac, and Valium, and Lipitor
Oxycontin, and Ritalin, and Prednazone,
Oh, listen, Lord, can't you see my dome? (chorus)

Lord, we don't need a bigger laptop
There are iMacs and eMacs in every home
There are handhelds and PC's in every trunk
To fill the dumps at the edge of town (chorus)

Lord, we don't need another website
There is whatfreaks, and Weird Al, and AmiRight
There is porno, and free porn, and triple-x
Enough to last till next Friday night (chorus)

Lord, we don't need another Gulf War
There are troops in Angola and Bosnia
Indonesia, the Philippines, Afghanistan,
Stuck in the mud down in Kosovo (chorus)

Lord, please get rid of all the cell phones
They annoy me, frustrate me, and make me gag
Conversations and secrets I'd rather not
Have overheard, what a f*#&!ng drag (chorus)

Lord, can't you abort the TV season?
There are sitcoms too senseless to contemplate
There are knock-offs, and spinoffs, reunion shows,
God%@##!t, Lord, toss me the remote (chorus)

Lord, while you're up, how 'bout a Heineken?
And some nachos, and Wheat Thins, with taco sauce
Gorgonzola, and cola, and kettle corn
Oh, hurry, Lord, and some dental floss (chorus)

Lord, I must've blanked, what was I saying?
Oh, that's right, it was something about a rug.........
Yes, I'm balding, and aging, what else is new?
I guess it's time for Alzheimer's drugs (chorus)

Noodler - thanks for posting that Bowie link. I saw that show three nights later at the Garden. Great set and tremendous band. Thanks!

I had that bootleg on Vinyl back in the late 70's (thank you Poobahs of Pasadena!), but this is an upgrade on the sound quality, which is wonderful!!!  (though the boot had a few songs missing, and instead, had tracks of Davids appearance on the Sonny and Cher show, just not the same)

So awesome you got to see this tour!!!
