Never knew this about Jerry; or maybe I did and forgot

I'm not sure, and in fact seriously doubt, that this is true.  It isn't mentioned in any of Jerry's biographies and he had barley started playing guitar in 1958.

This quotes Garcia in Relix re: this tune but not conclusive.

The one and only time the Grateful Dead played it, on New Year's '87, with the Neville Brothers.  I remember watching the telecast:

From Wiki on "Do you want to dance?" - "Contrary to some reports, Jerry Garcia did not play on the record."

" had the original recording overdubbed in New York by session musicians including guitarist Billy Mure"

That video is classic!

Jerry tears into a nice little solo, then Bobby kills the jam, Brent looks like he's all strung out and laying out while Art Neville plays some groovy melodies, Phil rumbling nicely, Bill feeling the groove and Mickey throwing down some talking drum, while Aaron and Cyrille share the vocals.  Good stuff!

That was an awesome New Years show- thanks for the link, and the memories.

Indeed that was a fun NYE = Golden Gate Bridge Spectacle and Mason Williams jamming in the seats.
Vividly recall that version of DYWTD at that show.
