Jerry crowd scene Close Encounters of the third kindn Jerrygarcia.com

Forums:

Bullshit urban legend or reality?

Jerry was never in India as far as I know. Mountain girl said that at least when Weir brought his ashes there. But if you look on jerrygarcia.com they say he was.

NOVEMBER 5 Jerry appears in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind as an extra during the crowd scenes in India. During the following year, the Grateful Dead would occasionally improvise the theme from Close Encounters in concert.

I've watched it and it a bullshit lie..

bump for www.jerrygarcia.com proof!

C'mon Trixie! Are you for reals?

No response?????

Shocking!

Invasion of the body snatchers, yes

Are you mad about it?

I have never heard of this.

Joe don't lose your coolio over this.

It should be easily explained.

I will ask my alien overlords and report back later.

BTW, They lean toward JGB.

you haven't watched the movie close enough. Jerry is absolutely 100% in it, albeit for a brief second or two. Its the scene where they are in India and they all all chanting the 5 syllable chant that they think is coming from the spaceship.  Not sure if they actually filmed it in India, but Jerry is in the movie.

The scene is definitely in India. from wiki "and the Dharmsala-India exteriors were filmed at the small village of Hal near Khalapur, 35 miles (56 km) outside Bombay, India." And no way Jerry was there. I've seen the movie and didn't see Jerry. It's a myth.

JerBear is everywhere, Brah!

Maybe if I watch it in 4K on a 200 inch screen, frame by frame, I'll see Jerry.

Savoir Jer is everywhere

I dunno, it says on the jerrygarica.com site (1977) that he was in the movie as an extra. It also states this on the IMDB site for the movie and other sources.

freaky!

Let the Garcia foundation(lol) show one shred of proof that it's real!

I will totally apologize if i'm wrong.

I heard that he was the bum on the bench in Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but I never bought that either.

During the following year

Bad info.

In '89 too.

I see it on the IMDB site attributed to a book, but somehow, I don't see Jerry traveling to India to be an extra in a movie.

Jacksonville '78.

Here's the scene. I challenge anyone to find Jerry.

Not gonna happen as he was never in India.

Next time someone is at TXR, ask Phil about this nonsense.

So, apparently he is the guy in the purple shirt, running at the very beginning, in front of the folks dressed in white:

You don't see his face, just flailing his arms, lol.

Maybe it was Jerry Garcia that works at the car wash?

Honest mistake.

Whey the hell would he bother if you can't even see his face?

Not convinced to say the least.

false flag jerry event, designed to keep us down, man.

>>>>>he is the guy in the purple shirt, running at the very beginning

That was the only suspected Jerry I could find.

Hard to imagine Jerry moving that fast.

But I think he'd grasp the concept of an "extra".

Some folks apparently can't.

Maybe he and Spielberg had the same connection.  Or masseuse.

Zoom in at exactly 0:01.

Unless you have a life.

It's Jerry's body double.

If you look up on the hill in the background you can see him chasing the dragon.

Looks worse than  he did in 95

Maybe he was in the movie but not during the India scene?

Principal photography began May 16, 1976 and the film was released in November 1977, so it would be pretty easy to narrow down Jerry's travel schedule.    Some of the filming took place in Burbank and other places in California.   If he was in the film, chances are it was in some other scene.

Per Internet: Close Encounters - Scene 12

In Dharmsala, India, Lacombe and the other researchers arrive to a chaotic scene. Crowds of people are running through the streets, and others, including Jerry Garcia (really), are sitting and reverently chanting 5 musical notes. Hint: It's not "Sugar Magnolia." Lacombe asks about where the sounds came from. A man addresses the group in Hindi to ask them, and all of the hands shoot up and point toward the sky.

((Ugly Rumors))

^ Steven Spielberg in The Lost World, Back to the Future, and Raiders of the Lost Ark? The Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia in Close Encounters of the Third Kind? Harrison Ford in E.T., The Extra-Terrestrial? Jaws, the killer shark and Star Wars' R2D2 riding on the outside of the spaceship in Close Encounters? These may seem like ridiculous impossibilities, but they all actually happened. Now film buffs can find out more about these and other jokes, sight gags, and director's tricks in Reel Gags.

March 2021 - NEW JERRY GARCIA DOCUMENTARY OFFERS RARE GLIMPSE BEHIND LEGEND

Jerry Garcia Music Arts and Malcolm Leo Productions partner to produce a new feature-length documentary about Jerry Garcia with never-before-seen footage of the private thoughts and reflections of the man behind the legend. The immersive film experience focuses on the creative spirit of Garcia. Jerry Garcia, Artist is a documentary based on a 1987 interview directed by Leo and filmed at Front Street Studio in San Rafael, California, by the Academy Award-winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter. It features Garcia speaking in his own voice directly to his audience about his music and art. Garcia’s family is co-producing the documentary and has contributed visual art and music to the project. It includes a charitable component that will benefit the Jerry Garcia Foundation as well as a charity of the co-producer’s choice.“We envision an uplifting, immersive experience focused on my father’s art and music,” states Keelin Garcia, Jerry Garcia’s daughter, co-producer of the project and president of Jerry Garcia Music Arts. “The story is authentic. My father narrates the film in his own words, directly to the audience.”

I'm still waiting on the dramatic biopic with Jack Black as Garcia.

Jerry running<<

LOL.

I can hear him doin' that little laugh of his at the notion.

A-huh!laugh

The only thing that gives credence to that Close Encounters story is the fact that Jerry was working on the Grateful Dead Movie at Burbank Studios (Warner Bros)  at the same time Close Encounters was also being worked on there.

Jerry and Dan Healy were experimenting and inventing sound editing techniques with union engineers. It is not a far stretch to imaging these same engineers might be also working on Close Encounters with John Williams. If introductions were made, maybe....

Also, a month after Close Encounters was released, Jerry applied for his screen actors guild card (or re-applied, as the band had gotten one years earlier).

Garcia in Close Encounters ???  WRONG !!!!!

Everybody knows Jerry was the leader of the Ewoks who saved the day in Return Of The Jedi.
