Jerry Garcia and David Grisman 1991 Backstage Passes New

Forums:

Got this film Justin made as DVD called Garcia & Grisman Backstage in 2003. But shortly thereafter he used that same tittle on an official Dead release, so at the last second. I decided to change the name to "Backstage Passes"

It took exactly 12 hours to convert the DVD to a single mp4 file & just uploaded it to YouTtube.

Timing is: 1:58:12

Jerry Garcia and David Grisman 1991 Movie Backstage Passes

Garcia and Grissman – Backstage Passes 1991 – Movie

A film from the inner circle workings of Jerry Garcia and David Grisman in 1991

Justin Kreutzmann, a young budding film director and son of Bill Kreutzmann, the drummer for the Grateful Dead; brings us behind the scenes of Garcia Grisman music video shoot, album rehearsals, and rehearsals for the 1991 Garcia Grisman Warfield Theater shows in San Francisco.

Through out the film Jerry and David run through all the songs that are part of the Garcia Grisman repertoire.

Special Thanks for the hard work from Justin Kreutzmann, for the initial video shoots and for the digitization of the film back in 2003.

Mr. Bluelight --

Thanks again for the effort you put in to all these viddies.

No functional email at the moment,  my mailing address is in the post at 1:23 PM on 1/14/2018.

Got it.

So it was Sony Pictures that pulled the video down as soon as I posted it.

I am not aware of a formal release of this homemade video. Sign me up.

I have all the emails (turtle too for got post up there) except Hooper & Floopy

Sorry for the delay bluelight

Email sent

It was never released commercially.

Sony Pictures released Grateful Dawg, and I'm almost positive one of the songs

from this JK "collection" made it to that film, so that's probably why it was yanked.

This is very helpful.

We converted the tape Justin called Backstage pass in 2003.  It's home movies. We did overdub the JG DG official version of Friend if the Devil in the beginning. That was not wise. I see cut up Versions of our DVD and from JT tapes on the net.

The quality is so poor, Sony Movies can not release it. It's home movies....with an overdub or 2....haha.

>>>Or I if do mail it to you. Maybe with some Bob Dylan videos I just found, that would get me in trouble at YT

Oh my!

Keep me updated.

And thank you for considering me laugh

I was gonna bail indecision

Okay, I made 12 copies for those listed, of this Garcia Grisman 1991 mix on DVDs

Funny/sad. It does not play on my older Toshiba DVD player, but plays on all the Blueray players in the house and on the PC as mp4.

Tagged at the end of is a video is a video from the JRAD I went show went too last night,  I didn't remove in time is and its at the end of this 2 hour video. It's a caffeinated mistake in may ways. Sorry

In the mean time I had the balls to re upload this home video to YouTube under another title and removing copyrighted graphics.

Here is the new link.

Strike with a hot iron!

Deleted again, already.

I will mail these tomorrow.

Enjoy!

Good deal

Thanks again!

Looks great on the big TV screen right now being played on my Blueray of all things. I am playing one of the discs all the way through I made tonight for QC.

Your welcome Hooper.

i'm somehow still streaming it. some smoke in there. we were so lucky to see this later day amazing collaboration.

That's very funny.

Jerry's banjo and acoustic guitar chops, were spot on in '91

I played the DVD all the way through and its really good. Better then a YouTube would have looked.

That JRAD video I wrote about is not on there.

Out tomorrow.

Filler rocks!

I loved finding something to fit at the end of a cassette.

Sometimes, it became akin to a little surprise package.  Other times, it sort of imprinted itself and I would come to expect it after certain set enders or encores.

Phish's Faht was the right fit more than once.  Or fading out the Bill/Mickey studio tracks.

I was the filler king too.

Never a waisted second of tape with me.

Cracks me up that NASA's original film/video footage of the moon landing in '69 was accidently erased, to tape something better over it. They thought.

We now have no 1st generation film footage of the most major event of the last century. Opps

Just noticed Jerry Garcia special on AMC movie channel is not up on YouTube , just 5 minutes of it. I need to do a little footwork on this one, as to why this is.

I see it's only 8 minutes long. Bummer

Thanks a bunch Bluelight. Much appreciated.

Really looking forward to seeing this.

I mailed these out yesterday.

East coasters should see them by Friday - Saturday. Westies should give it a week.

Enjoy.

Is this the same video that has been circulating as 2/2/91 I believe-catches their banter and rehearsals?

WoW Bluelight Sharing The Kindness = Awesome !

> 2/2/91<

my 20th bday party. live from the second row.

If anyone is up for making a copy and mailing it to me, I'd be more than happy to pay for the disc and postage.

It not, no worries.

Cheers,

JD

PS: This thread makes me happy.  smiley

>>>Is this the same video that has been circulating as 2/2/91 I believe-catches their banter and rehearsals?

No. This is Justin first movie as a kid, with more backstage stuff and only some of the Warfield stuff. It has the making if his music videos too....

A home-movie with some very personal moments with Jerry & Dawg

I will make you a copy Johnny d. I have another burn session ahead.

My email is up there^

>>>>>>> No. This is Justin first movie as a kid,

He had assembled a 2 hour documentary called "Behind the Scenes with the Grateful Dead" which consisted of snippets of his home camcorder video's of the band/scene from 1985 thru 1989 (he was age 12 thru 17 @ the time).  That video is (or was) on You Tube (I didn't try to find it).

Back in the fall of '89 my taper buddies got in touch with him thru The Well & we packed his beak Bigly in order to get a copy of this before most folks had it . . .

Bluelight, I just received the DVD in the mail.

Looking forward to checking it out after work.

Thanks again! yessmiley

Bluelight, mine came in the mail today too. Thanks a bunch man. Very cool of you. I can’t wait to check it out. I don’t have much time tonight, so I’m gonna hold off til tomorrow.

You got it guys. DVD players are temperamental. It will play on most of them and on your PC for sure.

Odysseus, the DVD arrived.  Good stuff, lots of shots of young Justin in his artsy fartsy directors cap  lol.

It did not play on my old DVD player but I could extract the video on my Linux box.

Have not received it yet. Glad others have.

Looking forward to ityes

Sorry. Out Wed in the second batch with the Los Lobos too?

I am wreck since the flu.

It's all good. It'll get here when it's suppose to.

Take care of your flu, that stuff can get pretty nasty!

And thanks again for your time and effort.

Hey Odysseus! I got your Garcia/Grisman DVD , I almost missed it cuz it blew out of my stuffed mailbox into the ivy. I was at these shows my first weekend in San Francisco! That was a great beginning to the best 8 years of  my life living there...   Thanks for all your efforts!!!

Thanks a lot dj. Hope you enjoy it.

That was quick Bluelight!

You rule.

:)

Ooops!  Just checking this thread for the first time in awhile.

EMOTW, Bluelight.

I got mine, thank you! Johnny D, happy to burn one for you gregehle at gmail dot com

No it is not. If it was, as you can see in that footage, Sony does not have a problem with it, or you would have not been able to view it.

The information is in my OP of what this is.

Felina,

Thanks man. I just got the shows and I really appreciate your generosity!

Love the 10/17/83 show in particular.

Bluelight, were you able to send out the DVD last Wednesday?

Hope you are feeling better.

No. I will mail it tomorrow. Sorry. Please email to re-confirm the address.

Do I owe you Los Lobos CDs too?

No problem.

I'll shoot you my address when I get home from work.

Just the Jerry & David dvd.

Thanks again.

I hope that did not sound rude or pushy, not meant at all in that manner.

I just needed to know if I had to throw snowballs at the mailman tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!

I understand.

One came back & I have Stu's here = 3-4 more

I re-edited this 3 times this weekend & re uploaded it to YouTube. It got yanked each time, making that a total of 6 tries.

YouTube is not like Bill Graham, where tenacity and good looks usually can get you in..

Haha.

Email sent!

Damn youtube..............no

I edited out every bit of the music video shoots. Every bit with Justin. All what was left were rehearsals and live footage. I removed a total of 6 minutes and they still pulled it down.

Thanks for the resend Hooper.

No problem and thank youyes

Out to Stu, John D and Mr Turtle right now.

Floopy just sent you an email.

We're doing headcounts.

Awesome Bluelight--glad u got 'em...crank that shit!

Bluelight

Came in the mail todayyes

Going to relax and watch it tonight

Thank you once again for your time and effort!

Thanks Man. I was about to mail another one tonight. I found a label written out in your name again.

^^^^

Lol.

I would have sent it on to another home if that were the case.

Every home needs some more Jerry & David in it, well in my world they do.

I have good news with this video.

First, Turtle, I priority mailed your copy yesterday and will be there Wednesday. Sorry it has taken so long. For your troubles I also included a great Los Lobos show - 5/15/2003

Here is the set list and details

http://db.etree.org/shn/17779

Secondly, I re-edited this Garcia/Grisman video one more time (6th) and removed anything else I might have missed that Sony would think I infringed upon...."the making of music videos were embeded threw out", and have been edited out. I think this video was over two hours, it was 1:52 not long ago and now it's a little over 1 1/2 hours long.

I also renamed it, so we know there is a difference, and was very clear in the text, the steps I was going through to adhere to YouTube's bylaws and the Sony police whack-stick.

16 hours ago I re-published / uploaded this video up at YouTube and it looks like we finally have new version that will remain.

thanks bluelight, and its not any trouble waiting for free music man. i appreciate your efforts, peace!

lol

You are welcome.  I had fun doing this.

Some kind music fan pointed out a redundancy at the end of the video and I had to delete rev3, re-edit, re-post and re-name the sucker.
