Good time at the Moore Theater in Seattle last night. Backed by 9-piece band Cool, Cool, Cool. Lots of Fear Of Music as well as Remain In Light songs. Jerry looked a little spaced out. Adrian wore glittery red shoes.
The band is the seven ex-Turkuaz members of Cool, Cool, Cool, with bassist Julie Slick (who plays in the Adrian Belew Power Trio), and percussionist Yahuba Garcia-Torres. When the tour hits the South, they'll be joined by Les Claypool's Frog Brigade.
Julie Slick is real good on bass. Vocals were solid, but made me appreciate David Byrne's ability to be the frontman. The sound was a little muddy up in the first balcony.
Older crowd of people who mostly looked like the 40 year older than their selves when they saw this band as youngsters.
Last night at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver BC was amazing. The whole night was a prolonged experience since they opened the doors at least 1/2 an hour late, then Cool x3 came on an hour later, then Jerry & Adrian finally hit the stage around 10. Was all totally worth the wait, though, and the band killed it. Belew played some awesome guitar and sang very well. Harrison seemed quite into it and played rhythm guitar, keys, and sang as well. Good stuff.
The music post for May got me reading about Bootsy...and I then learned he worked on this presentation with Jerry H. Just....new news to me. Not quite my speed in terms of music, though.....
Is this the same lineup for the free show in SF on 8/17?
Same night as Billy Strings but weighing my options and looking for something fresh... and Psycho Killer is my one and only karaoke song, LOL. Never got to see Talking Heads live.... Have seen Billy quite a few times...
By my reading, Remain in the Light is Saturday 1 PM at GAMH for free, then I could still make it to Billy that evening ... didn't realize that... Phil is the next afternoon, 8/18 full moon...but looks like Phil ends by 6! Missed moon opportunity, but maybe there's a curfew.
I was just checking out tent sites at China Camp... lots still available for the 18th... we'll see... wish I could also see Kruanghbin at the Greek earlier that week. JMF on way south, in Redding, of all places.
Sometimes I like planning the journey better than the actual journey.
>>>Remain in the Light is Saturday 1 PM at GAMH for free<<<
It's not at the Great American Music Hall, they're just producing it. That show is at China Basin Park, which is right across from the baseball stadium.
That spot should be cool for a show, but it's not that big a space so I imagine it'll be a lively scene.
I think I'm going to be pretty drained after Remain in the Light and Billy Strings but after show sounds fun. So many shows. Bay area gets all the shows.

And for those going to Billy Strings that night, and for those who aren't, remember there's an excellent aftershow happening just down the street...
I could easily imagine a special guest or two dropping in on that one, but even if not that should be a good time.
GTTS!!!

The show at The Quarry at UC Santa Cruz was way undersold but a great dance party! Cool little venue, sort of a small Frost Ampitheatre.
