Jerry's Middle Finger - Portland

Forums:

Just noticed Jerry's Middle Finger is playing next week  (2/23) at the Mission Theater.  I think I'll go check them out

I'll be there!  Haven't been able to see them yet and the Mission is a fun venue, IMHO.

Have fun at the show.  The band is great, with the female vocalist really shining. They are like the DSO of JGB.  We will be seeing them up in Tacoma at the Elks Temple the next night. Always wanted to check out the property and this is as good of a reason as any.  Will be seeing Pink Talking Fish the night of the Mission Theater show.

I did not see that PTF is also playing.  Decisions, Decisions.

Stage 732? New venue?

Yep.  It's a new venue a couple blocks from Revolution Hall and this will be our first show there.   A band called "Watkins Glen" is opening.   Wonder what sort of music they play?

If we weren't going to Jerry's Middle Finger the next night in Tacoma, would be at the Mission Theater show.

What does that make Melvin & JGB? The Phil and Friends?

Hey Ken.  My buddy voted for PTF so may run into you on Thursday.

A great weekend shaping up with this in Thursday, Dumpstaphunk and Jon Cleary on Friday and Springsteen on Saturday.  And it might snow.  Good times

Hopefully the snow won't affect the shows tomorrow.  It was crazy getting back from work today.

^^^ glad you're safe!   around 8 inches of pow pow in inner SE!

I have my snowshoes with me, but the bridges....  It would take me over an hour, LOL

The band is probably stuck somewhere on I-5...

WOW, they made it!

This should be fun... need to figure out the best route given the icy bridges....

Congrats.  Have fun tonight.

Good band

worth the trouble

Christine:  We get JMF 3.3.23 at CBC, Tahoe and Melvin - JGB 3.4.23 at CBC, Tahoe.  Got my dancing shoes ready.

MAR 3 FRI

Jerry's Middle Finger AND Pink Talking Fish at Crystal Bay Casino @ 7:00pm

Crystal Bay, NV, United States

I wish I could make those Tahoe shows.... if it weren't for my freaking big new Portland job!  Already have to work this weekend, ugh.

If the temps stay in the teens / 20s tonight it will be tricky to get to the show ... and be in work mode again early tomorrow.

Going to make a last-minute decision based on conditions... been trying to see JMF for a few years now, always miss them.

Stay safe Llollo.   Just heard that Pink Talking Fish canceled tonight's show.  Bummer, but at least they aren't pulling a John Kadlecik and risking life and limb for the sake of rock.

Hoping that I-5 is ok for our trip up to Tacoma tomorrow for Jerry's Middle Finger at the Elk's Temple.

Thanks Ken!  I advise starting your road trip at sunrise... maybe then you'll arrive by showtime. ;)  Melting won't begin anytime in the next 24 hrs.

Are you going to try and go to JMF tonight?

Yesterday a KGW reporter + cameraman were stuck in van on I-5 for 7+ hours!!  Literal gridlock.

>>>>>Are you going to try and go to JMF tonight?

Very unlikely.  We were just out walking the dog and it was a very short walk.  Roads are an ice sheet and the cold wind is blowing.  Don't think the busses are running either.   Can't imagine how we would get down there.   Enjoy the show if you make it.

sounds unlikely if there's ice -- i know better than to drive in icy conditions.... will check bus and Lyft though.

feel bummed for the band!

Ken -- funny, just heard from a friend who lives in MV, calling in from Mt. Hood Meadows lot as he is done w/ snowboard runs for the day -- he drove up w/o AWD and w/o issues, but took back roads as far as possible to miss the freeway mess.  Will keep monitoring bus situation.

Tri-met best option tonight. Uber/Lyft sounds risky. Only bummer is last bus back to my house leaves downtown at 11:30.

Thanks and agree.

My goal is to be at the Goose at 6 for a bite and a beer if anyone wants to meet up and walk from there to the Mission -- 15 minute walk w/o snow. ;)

Since Goose is at the Jefferson MAX stop, going to see if I can catch the orange line and transfer to that line.

Looking like it's cancelled according to Mission Theater site. Bummer  https://www.mcmenamins.com/events/240016-jerrys-middle-finger

^^^ thanks and yep, just got confirmation from band via Insta.

oh well,, should work late anyhow...

.

^^^ This was a top headline today for Portland... but does anyone else remember a heavy snowstorm between 2005 and 2008 where at least in SE there were drifts of about 14"?  I snow shoed to the bus stop to get to work.

Then again around 2010-12, in my SW hilly hood, there wasn't as much snow, but roads were closed due to ice underneath the snow.

I'm thinking the gorge winds created those tall snowdrifts and wherever they take this measurement (airport?) didn't have the same conditions or volume of snow.

What's rare with yesterday's storm is that it also covered the Oregon coast with snow, and that is super rare.

All I know is that I've got cabin fever as I worked from home these past 2 days... heading out to explore now and see what's still open in the neighborhood.

I drove to get a buddy at PDX this afternoon.  2 hours from the airport to SW.  Complete cluster.

Was kinda happy JMF and PTF was canceled because we would have gone out. But it's unfortunate that good hippie music got canceled

My neighborhood walk last night.... sheets of ice

Pretty sure that was December 2008.  Deepest snow I have seen in town, but it fell over the course of a few days, not the big single day dump we got on Wednesday.   Hope the roads clear up soon.  Didn't go anywhere yesterday but need to get to my office today before driving up to Tacoma this afternoon for Jerry's Middle Finger.

Trying for Dumpstaphunk tonight.  Hopefully that show will go on

You all take care and stay safe.  Sheets of ice suck.

Wow, nice photo Christine.  Nice ice.

^^^   Aha! yes, 2008 sounds right.

Safe travels! Wish I could catch a ride but alas, cannot.

Regarding JMF just learned they are 1st band and PTF is headliner.  WTF?  Not sure I'm going to Tahoe show with Melvin-JGB next evening.  We'll see.

Made it up to Tacoma yesterday for Jerry's Middle Finger at the Elk's Temple.   Great show.   Every song sounds like the Jerry Garcia Band on a smoking night:   They mostly played Melvin era material, but would dip into the earlier catalog, including a Garcia-Saunders "Keepers"

The Elks Temple was a very cool venue.  Seven story historic building in downtown Tacoma.  The concert space was a ballroom on the second floor and the rest of the building was a labyrinth of bars, restaurants, guest rooms, and funky spaces.   There is supposedly a hidden bar behind some secret door.  They don't tell you where it is, only that it exists.   We looked but couldn't find it.  Maybe next time.

Here is our room.  Nicely appointed, funky little box with private bathroom situated in an atrium style area on the sixth and seventh floors:

One advantage of staying on site is you can buy 32 ounce growlers of beer for $6 in the gift shop, take them up to your room, fill your cups, and head back down to the show.

AJ's postponed due to tge forecast weather....
