Joan Vs. Teresa

Forums:

Women singing GD songs.  Joan and Teresa are my two favorites.  I am going with Joan.  Her China Doll is amazing.  Teresa is a very close second.

joan by a long shot.

i think teresa sounds awful singing dead.

Teresa by default.   Not a fan of Joan singing GD tunes

joan

I enjoy both, but Joan is numero uno.

Not a fan of Theresa but will deal with it.... sounds a little to high for me to the point of yelling....Never had a problem with Joan, smiles all around.....

Yes there were smiles all around.  Now who is the father?

Joan Zone

Total buzzkill hearing any "vocalist" do GD. I prefer the aesthetic of a guitar player singing.

Who the hell is the Mother...now thats the question

Neal are you a sexist?  We always talk about dudes singing GD songs.  A Let Molo thread yesterday, but one female thread, and it is the "Joan" Zone?  Do you keep your wife barefoot and pregnant?

I saw joan thursday night and  she  did a great  brokedown palace....described grateful dead music as something like country music that took a left and kept going......she is working on an album of dylan stuff,,, and played a handful very well

When Joan plays GD songs, she taps into some real soul, something that has been missing since the days of Pigpen.

She brings it solo...

Joan does bring the soul.  She is awesome.

They're both michael boltons.

Oh Lord....Jerry is dead, the Grateful Dead are gone, enjoy the music...simple enough

Yes it is simple to enjoy the music, but also fun to talk about it.  What really made you dance, or moved you emotionally.

We all know the answer to that, otherwise we would not be here....Michael Bolton comment got me

Your opinion of Bolton doesn't change the fact that all three are blue eyed soul singers and soul is just an opinion.

Some people will never stop wearing jorts.

No it does not

Joan>Donna>Nikki>Sunshine>Teresa>Fat Donna

I thought this was a Joan vs Teresa thread...

What are their differences, captain?

Soul.... thats just my opinion....Teresa seems to screech at times, just seems to take away from things....thats just me, prefer Joan.....now when Donna screeched, I was to young to know what the hell was going on, so Everything was good

the joan bands from 2006 (winter/summer) was some of the very best plf, imo.

joan was a huge part of that.

Love them both but if I had to pick ,Joan. I prefer my phil with a female voice in the mix.

I love those 2006 bands, up until Joan starts singing

Put Joan into the lineup & U have someone who can actually sing.

i guess that goes against what (some) deadheads want.

^Not at all Dave. Just not a Joan Osborne fan.

What do they do during playin>too>dark star ?

What did Donna do during Playin'?

No wait, don't answer that... plz

Music appreciation is purely subjective, so 2 each his or her own.

leave the stage.

>>>>i guess that goes against what (some) deadheads want.

(Most) if you count tickets sold to see Mayer vs Joan and Teresa.

Teresa on Attics.

Joan on everything else.

Da Joan moan

i personally think joan has sung the best stella blue and china doll post garcia.

no one has even come close. the incredible phil band helped of course, but she delivered the goods. stunning renditions.

^wicked 2nd set.

when was the last time phil played new potato??? damn.

phil should do a farewell tour w/ the sextet.

dirty.

Thanks for all the links....lots of fun in there

These shows were utterly jamaliscious. The first night at the Beacon was a total Philfest. Listen to him lead the band. There's even a Phil solo somewhere in Love The One You're With. No More Do I came in nicely. West LA was Hot. The Birdsong has a Wayyyyy out solo that has to come back to Birdsong. My first Unbroken Chain and listen to the Coda!!! Rescue Blues was real good. Slipknot! was solid and totally deserving the exclamation mark.

The Hammerstein show had me in tears. Just wow.

BTW, that's Jeff Sipe in there. Actually the real drums of the Sextet. When this group had Molo in the summer, they also added Greg Osby, thus becoming the Septet. And so...

Oh Im listening.... saw the beacon run ....thanks for the links

No problem, Cap. Cheers.

floops

im gonna email you the shows, just needed your email.

ill get on it after work. thanks.

Speaking of 2006  SHERYL CROW Was On Fire that Year !! - have a few Sweet tapes.

DARK STAR

Joan crushes China Doll among others. I prefer that 06' band well over the Q. More versatile and doesn't just turn into a piss match with Jimmy and Warren every jam. Sless on the pedal steel during china doll is just phenomenal.

I'd take that dude from RUSH over either one of them.

Got a Mr Charlie- on one of the Dead shows from.....2003? Red Rocks

joan kills it.

Joan all day long. I just don't think Theresa is a good vocalist, not signing lead anyway (River Deep Mountain High is cringeworthy to these ears). Love her energy and dig her hubby, but I prefer Joan as a friend.

I'll take Joan. Not that I have anything bad to say about Teresa I just prefer Joan.

Searched all the joan 2006 nobody girl china dolls  = 2 discs all Flac. just Amazing

Super Freaking good ! w/ny ny rob barraco

I'VE GOTTA 'JOANER'

Always have always will

I'VE GOTTA 'JOANER'

2XX Joan Yes !!

2006

that stella from 7/15 is something else.

fucking so good.

gonna make em SHINE

takes time

pick a place to go

No doubt Joan Osborne fits better. I agree absolutely Teresa sounds awful singing Dead songs. She´s just a screamer, and not good, in the best of cases. It´s clear she doesn´t belong to this musical scene.

Joan singing a great version of Rubin and Cherise that's been on my ipod for years...

I vote for Nikki Bluhm!
