Agreed its surreal. Yeah, its so easy to paint Trump as a dimwitted buffoon, but in the end he got himself elected President (and some foreign paid Facebook ads and Russian trolls wasn't the reason for that) and is still there a year and a half later.
McCain is a very smart and calculated opportunist. I lost respect for him when the Bush family attempted to destroy his credibility and after he received the 'you'll be next Jonny!/we won't tell you that it's going to be Palin' talk he caved and supported Bush at the RNC. Fast forward a few years later and he's been all over the map with Trump. In the end McCain is another career politician with only his best interests in mind.
Definitely not a big fan of a lot of McCain's history, but yes, I give him kudos for being one of the very few member of the Senate or House that have actually said anything critical about Trump.
You almost can't blame Trump for being who he is ... it'd be akin to blaming a dog for barking or a cat for scratching. However, members of Congress know better & many are now complicit and simply seek to retain and amass power. At this point, unless there's actual footage of Trump involved in something nefarious, I don't believe there'll be enough votes to impeach ... even if it's shown he's more than likely up to his eyeballs re: all sorts of shady illegal activity.
He served his Country in an honest manner and even though I hated that war, he refused to be released early when given the chance and refused special treatment from his captors unless all of his POW's could enjoy the same. I believe his comittment was true and he sufferred for it. Therefore, he gets more of a pass than many.
Opportunist ? Yes.
Enemy of the people ? Some what, but not as bad as many right now.

I'm in agreement with you regarding the first part, but don't necessarily give him a pass because of it.
However, I would give him a pass on previous "transgressions" as a Senator, if he continues to take a stand, and escalates his efforts against what is going on ... since it'd be more of a mea culpa. Likewise, I believe history will look upon him (and Mueller, another Vietnam Vet) as unlikely heros ... "unlikely" in the sense they might serve a role just as important as Lincoln, but coming at it from a different angle ... or position of influence.

For all the enmity Trump creates, you'd think he couldn't get elected Dogcatcher, and here he is the POTUS.
Surreal.

And if he makes it to 2020 he'll get reelected.
He's no bozo. The guy knows what to say and when to say it. As a result, his words have no value, but the right people buy into them.

Will be interesting to see if all the former Presidents snub Trump’s funeral, or if they all show up to celebrate with Melania.
