December 5 – Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco, California – Kaukonen with special guests

December 13 – Paramount in Denver, Colorado – Kaukonen with special guests

Is anyone thinking of going to the Masonic? My sister has a ticket for me, and I hope to go, barring this or that. I was planning to be in the Bay Area the week before, but may decide to change my plane tickets.

I really hope you go!!!!!

No spot taken, but Judit you GOTTA' go to the show!

You know Jorma will be disappointed if you don't.

We'll be there Judit.

I'm really thinking about it, and I'm sure I'll be disappointed if I don't go. And, our tickets are first row, floor C. (By thinking of where the tickets are I'm trying to psych myself up for the transportation changes I'll have to make.)

Seems like it'll be easy to run into you, Woz.

There's usually a line to speak to Woz, but I'm sure he'd cut you in Judit.

And it's easy for me to say, but how many more chances will there be to see Jorma, and in San Francisco with your sister and with that lineup. Sounds like a fun night.

If you can, you really should try to go to the show.

Hear! Hear!   or is it  Here! Here!

Anyway, GTTS.

I changed my flights and will be there! Yikes!

smiley

Good for you Judit.

You were going to the Bay Area anyway, right? So now you get to make your sister happy and you get a little extra adventure, at what should be a very nice event.

There will lots of emotion and good vibes in the room that night. Way to represent.

Good evening. I was going to be in Bay Area the week before this show, and I'd forgotten that United was making it very easy to change flights. I'll be making two of my sisters happy and myself, too.

And then there’s Jack, the man I’ve had a crush on since 1968! I love seeing Jorma, too, and I really like John Hurlbut,, almost as much as Jack. And then there's Tedeschi and Trucks and everyone else.

HeyDavey will be there as well, so that'll be 2/3 of the Viva admin team. I'm looking forward to the Zoners I'll see, and the music I will hear.

More later...

good move, you should definitely attend!

Seems like it'll be easy to run into you, Woz.

Yup! Row 8 Floor B. See you at the show!

Each show will feature special guests, deep cuts, and stories from a lifetime in American blues and roots music.

New from Culture Factory USA, Reno Road is a previously unreleased collection of early 1960s recordings that capture a young Jorma Kaukonen at the dawn of his journey into fingerstyle blues — a sound that would come to define his career. Recorded by Jack Casady, these intimate sessions are essential listening for blues purists and Americana enthusiasts alike.

"At the end of that summer, I stopped by my grandparent’s house in Chevy Chase to drop off some things and drove over to see my high school bandmate Jack Casady. We went down into the rec room at his house, he set up his Wollensak tape recorder and I started to play… to show him what I had been learning. Sixty years later Jack rediscovered these old recordings (He never throws anything away…) and had our friend Rick Sanchez, sound engineer extraordinaire, restore them, opening a forgotten window into my musical history!" We got tix to a Hot Tuna acoustic show out here Oct 30 – The Grand Opera House, Wilmington, DE. Nice room.

(Skipping the Jorma with spacial guests show in DC two days later, as we are seeing Billy Strings in Balto that same night. Alas, can't do it all.....)

SF will be great...enjoy!

Woz and anyone else who'll be there, I am what's called face blind. Even though I know what you look like, I almost for sure won't recognize you, and then if we're in a crowd I won't recognize you again 10 minutes later. Even after being with him for 25 years, I couldn't recognize Greg in a group, he had to see me. My best friend of almost 50 years and I went into a store recently and split up; she came around the corner and I had no idea who this woman was who was talking to me, until I heard her voice.
I recognize people by their hair or their clothes, but not their face.
So, don't cut your hair, Woz.

Face blind? I've never heard of that. How does it work???

If someone you know well comes up to you but doesn't say anything and is wearing a hat do you never recognize them? How will you know when Jack Casady is on stage if you don't recognize his face?

Can you recall faces in your mind, like Greg right now? Do you recognize photos, like of Greg or your family, or do you always wonder who the hell all those people are on your mantle? And when face-to-face with someone familiar, once you know through voice, hair or clothes do you recall their face after a few moments? If not it must be like meeting everyone for the first time over & over.

Is it something you've dealt with all your life, or did it come on later?

Apologies for all the questions, but what a trip. It must be one hell of a challenge to navigate.

I'm almost the exact opposite. I virtually never forget a face, but I've never been able to remember anyone's name to save my life.

Brains are weird.

Tom, I will always recognize you because you are really tall and wear a baseball cap. See how easy that is? i'm too tired to answer a bunch of questions right now and I wish I knew more about it. I did watch this YouTube link from a 60 minutes show that I thought was really interesting and had easily absorbable information. Check it out. I'll write more tomorrow about my experiences,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcgK_7kQUwQ

and yes, brains are amazing and mysterious and beautiful and powerful, and so weird. More later

And it seems that one in 50 people has some degree of facial blindness so it's not totally rare.

Personally, I think most of those people just use Face Blindness as an excuse to avoid people they don't want to talk to. I'm now considering contracting it myself.

And please, don't feel compelled to answer any of my intrusive questions, it's really none of my or anyone else's business, I just like to pry.

So, don't cut your hair, Woz.

Not in any of my plans.....

my buddy has facial blindness. he used to be a professor so would have to make cheat sheets to remember people. it's a thing.

I usually think of it as facial recognition blindness since I don't recognize people whom I otherwise would. I was the receptionist at the beloved hip doctor offices in Eugene starting in 1976 til 2014 and have "known" thousands of people here who feel that we have an intimate relationship. They are so friendly when I see them now and I often have to say, "I'm sorry, could you remind me of your name?".

Tom, it's progressing and I recognize fewer people in life or photos than I used to. I was looking at a photo album last weekend of people I once knew fairly well. I had no idea who most of them were when once I would have. I usually recognize photos of Greg and other family members, I'm happy to say.

My 12 y.o. grand daughter changes her hair color all the time and when I pick her up from school every other week I have trouble without that clue. Her brother had hair to his waist until the beginning of this year and that made it easy to see him. Now, I know his shorter hair and watch for it, but a few times have not known him til he came right up to me. It is like I'm seeing them anew each time. Kind of unsettling.

I can't remember when it first started but since Greg died 10+ years ago, it's been going on a long time.
Thanks for keeping your hair the way it is, Woz.

Tom, feel free to ask questions. I find it interesting. And I love brains. You might remember that Greg died of a progressive brain infection that gave me a ringside seat to some pretty amazing stuff. My dad had Alzheimer's and my mom had Parkinson dementia - lots of observing in all of that.
