JRAD Fox on Archive

Forums:

This might have been my favorite JRAD fox show yet, just incredible the whole way thru, but things really took off with playin' and they stayed in deep space for almost the whole second set. Cats under the stars was a totally unexpected treat, fully jammed out in true JRAD style. Not quite sure what was going on with the double encore thing, they did that at 1st bank too, but that 1st bank show was their longest show to date, seemed like they were trying to make up for the show getting moved from red rocks and played a super long set with all the bells and whistles.

But at this show the second set ended suspiciously early, around 11pm, Joe did a really fast band intro and they all high tailed it off stage. Came back out for a really solid and pretty long encore with Vampire Blues>Touch, did a normal, end of show band intro, then after alot of people had already started to leave, came back for the second encore. Not quite sure why they didn't just play Vampire Blues>Touch or some other song or two as part of the second set and then did the Loser>Minglewood as a standard encore. At the 1st bank it made sense, the second set was a normal, long JRAD set and the 2nd encore was a rarely played Ripple followed by an equally rare Born to Run with all the house lights on, it felt like a more spontaneous and special kinda thing, but this time around it seemed planned and kinda strange.

Would have preferred they took some of that encore time and kept the second set momentum going a bit longer, but its hard to complain, both encores were fantastic. I really, really enjoyed the Loser, for whatever reason this version had me thinking of Jerry even more than usual and had me on a JGB/ early 70's Jerry kick all night and the next day. Another fantastic show. On paper, the setlist does not look like my cup of tea, I'm usually just in it for the "big jam" tunes; let it grow, eyes, other one, etc etc, but JRAD really manages to inject incredible energy and improvisations into anything they play. Even with a set of shorter songs than they usually play, everything is still so inventive and surprising.

Thanks for sharing!

Listening now but gotta comment on that start. BIODTL count to start, pause into The Eleven?

Yeah it's a good jam but a horrible sounding opening. Song placement matters.

Thanks Daylight.  I got inside late and the band was already playing, so my mojo was off in the beginning.

What I dig about these guys is that I can get so lost in the jams, I forget what song they are playing.  For some reason this makes me very happy.

You're being lazy, slacker. They did 11 beats...get it?

They also use the 'little bit softer now, little bit louder now' gimmick on too many songs. Once a night, ok. 4 or more songs, no bueno.

Killer show enjoyed a gel tab partying with friends.
