After attending a few shows at the re-opened Frost, I have quickly come to the same feelings I used to have back in the '80s; I like the Frost, I love the Greek.
The Frost is lovely, relaxed, easy to access & deal with and is much closer to me, while the Greek is difficult to navigate and arriving & leaving is generally stressful, but the sound and overall intensity/the gravitas of the Greek for rock shows blows the pastoral Frost away.
The Frost is a much better venue now than it used to be, especially the upgrades allowing for nighttime shows vastly improves it and there are many things to like about it, but the times I've there recently I've once again found myself thinking, "This is nice, but it would be better at the Greek."
That being said, I may well end up at both of these.
(Update)
Damn, I just checked the listings... the "Greek" show on the 14th is at the Los Angeles Greek Theatre.
Damn I would have gone to the Greek Berkeley too. I will be skipping the Frost again. It's too bad because I really like JRAD, but I'm too old to get in line early enough to hear the show at rock concert volume and if you aren't in front of the sound board you are at a picnic with a band playing on stage somewhere in the distance.
Frost is a beautiful venue for classical performances and if they allowed those new fangled electric bands to play at normal volume it would drown out the sound of another Eichler being torn down to be replaced by McMansion and we can't have that.
45 years ago, we'd go to the Griffith Park observatory, then walk down to the back fence of the LA Greek. Heard many great shows there! (the forest blocks most of the view, well, back then anyway).
Don't get me wrong, Tim. The band raged it on Black Dog, but Johnson's vocals just didn't do it for me. Part of Robert Plant's magic is that he could go high vocally, and at the same time bring some bottom to the vocals. While Johnson can hit the high notes, I thought his performance lacked guts.

Too bad we're not talking about the Greek in Berkeley here... :(
I do like the Greek in LA though. One of the better venues down there IMO.

Two JRAD shows in the Bay
Two shows in the Bay Area at two different venues would've been unusual, I think. The Q pulled it off in 2002, and that was quite a sublime weekend.
That said, I'm glad to hear we'll be getting a JRAD fix down this way this fall.

Thanks, Zooey. I'm not on FB. Any chance of posting it here?
The LA Greek is a great smaller outdoor theater, but yeah, it's often like Turtle said. More of a meat-in-the-seat venue.

The boys tore it up all night long, but the China > Stephen > Rider + Playing was exceptionally good.
I will say though that I thought Eric Johnson was kind of a buzz kill.
