Soooo.... after an epic road trip from Denver to San Fran on Amtrak and then up Highways 1/101 up the coast, we arrived in Eugene..... last stop before joining family in Portland.

Lisa & I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with a dear friend whom I had never met before. My wife Lisa & Judit had many similar experiences and seemed to hit it off instantly.

We spoke about the origins of Viva , and how I had a chance meeting with the PhilZone's Bret in a NJ parking lot ( I laid a show tape on a stranger and it turned out to be him ....).

What a deep and kind soul, our Judit, who shared too many artistic creations to count and shared many stories about the zone, shows and life. Beyond all the synchronicities between Judit and Lisa, she and I shared some as Eastie and Westie Heads.... I was at Jerry's last 2 shows (RFK) before his coma and she was at his first show back, etc..

All the time on this black screen gave us lots to talk about .... (if your ears are ringing right now, there may be a reason).

It was a magical meeting and we could have gone on and on. Sweet Judit is a good one and we are so glad to have been able to put some flesh, blood, heart & soul together with the Black Screen Queen.

Back in Portland now for a few days before flying back to New Paltz

Thanks for coming to visit. I had a lovely time with both of you. Yes, Lisa and I seem to have parallel life experiences and thoughts and I'm surprised we don't share a birthday or something like that. I've admire you over the years, Don, starting with your work to make potable water available. So cool and important.

I love the phrase 'a dear friend whom I had never met before'. It really says how I feel about many of you/us, and I love that we share time and space. Love.

Alan,

The train ride was all the we'd hopedTrip 1a_0.jpg

The scenery over the Rockies was killer. Meals were tables of 4 with random seating, so we got to meet many other passengers (the group of Menonites were loud and obnoxious )

With the beds down, there was little room for anything but sleeping - every inch of space was well used

...... and at the end, the conductor gave a grand verbal summary of the trip, naming each stop from Chicago. We imagined it to be a speech he'd given 100 times.... the whole train applauded at the end. Epic trip!

Hello, Sweet Don and Lisa, it's a great Setlist. I imagine you're having a great time with family in Portland. How is beautiful Mt. Hood? And have you checked out Edgefield?

Happy times to you.

Sweet thread. Some real Heart of Gold Band stuff going on in here.

Thanks all.   Mike - shared the story about standing in the front balcony row at The Cap and how you provided the link to Reddit's "Don appreciation" thread

Sounds like a great trip so far Don.  If you are still in Portland and looking for some good live music, check out Rhapsody In Red at Al's Den downtown this evening.  Good GD themed band with a killer steel pedal player.  I would go but we are going over to my partner's brother's place for a Yom Kippur fast breaking thing this evening.

Thanks Judit..... we have been sticking pretty close to home in Portland, having left Eugene 18 hours after arriving.

Ken - family had narrowed it down to 2 choices for music tonight. Rhapsody has my vote
