Did someone leave an xacto knife or vape thing on Pig's grave?

^ I think it's a harmonica

Is that Joni Mitchell or Greg Allman in pic #8 above?  smiley

> Did someone leave an xacto knife or vape thing on Pig's grave?

There's a couple of harmonicas on the grave, but I don't see anything that resembles an xacto knife or vape pen. Here's a link to the full-sized image:

^ this shot of the old train depot in Telluride really wigs me out ... being from 1968, it's on the cusp of the arrival of the first wave of "ski bums", Vietnam Vets looking for a safe place, hippies, etc.

This building has gone through various face lifts over the years and is now fully integrated into the gentrified neighborhood:

Fuckin weird, I planted the seed 5/16 and it looks like it'll be ready to yank mid July. How tf do they get em to mature early like that ? Chemistry or geometry ?  If that's not an Auto, never mind.

Face on Mars:

I think I've mentioned here before that I have a friend who grew up in Telluride in the 50's-70's. Her family has all moved away but they gather from far and wide for every 4th of July in Telluride. I showed her the pictures you shared of the Fourth Parade and she almost left her body gushing with Joy. Thanks for facilitating that moment of happiness!!

She would like to know where you are getting these pictures. She use to work at the museum and saw the extensive photo collection before the remodel. Has that archive been digitized?

I think I remember you mentioning it ... that must've been an interesting time to grow up in Telluride!

Unfortunately, they're not having the "full" 4th of July this year ... just a flyover and parade.  While there haven't been any mining activity contests (as pictured) that I can recall since '94, there has still always been a "traditional" celebration with a full-on BBQ in Town Park, such as:  bobbing for apples, three leg and potatoe sack races, catch fish with your hands in tub, etc.  So, I'd suspect your friend may have partaken in those festivities.

I've been getting these photos from a FB group called "If you grew up in Telluride, Sawpit, Placerville, or Ophir, CO you remember".   Some of them are from actual people, but I believe there are others that have been recycled from online collections ... although not sure if any are from the museum.  I believe most are coming from the Denver Public Library Digital Collection FWIW

Thanks for the info on the archive. My friend isn't on FB but the kids are so I'll let her know.

It's neat that her family has been in Telluride/Ophir since the early 1900's

Sad about the parade since covid. There's talk amongst her family that this could be the last year they gather in Telluride for the Fourth for several reasons.

1. Not enough help to run all the events they used to enjoy on the 4th. (Because no one can afford to live and work there)

2. The condo they rent costs more each year and they owners haven't spent a dime on upkeep or maintenance. (In fact they wouldn't let them cancel their reservation when covid hit)

3. Folks are getting on and the effort is getting a bit much, although the next generation seems still enthusiastic.

Thanks again for the great pics!!
