Just Back from the International Film Festival

Forums:

This past weekend, Pioneer Day weekend in Utah, when the arrival of the mormons is celebrated (by some) on the 24th, the bulging metropolis of Bicknell, Utah near Capitol Reef NP, population around 200, celebrates the annual the "Bicknell International Film Festival," or BIFF. This is where I met that sweet couple Nick and Bobbi Ercoline from the Woodstock album cover in 2019 at "BIFFSTOCK".

It is a celebration of bad cinema and B movies and was started by Trent Harris, who did "Plan 10 From Outer Space" and "Ruben and Ed" and others.  http://echocave.net/films.html

This year's theme was "Cowboys! Dinosaurs! The Good, the Bad, and Worse" and celebrate bad cinema we did.

It starts with the fastest parade in the nation, an eight-mile drive at 65 mph on State Route 24 from Torrey to Bicknell.

The first movie was the 1969 film "The Valley of Gwangi" a Ray Harryhausen film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0i0RSpQEf8  It stars James Franciscus. Yep, Dr Kildare.

Next was "Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs," a real classic with a 19% Rotten Tomatoes rating for the 2015 made for TV movie. You'll wonder where $160 million went.

The trailer is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=211MM3zxNwI     And another  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UX001e-Xjds    I think the full movie is out there somewhere online.

So bad they were hilarious. And of course there was an after party with live music. Fun weekend in the canyon country. Watch out for dinosaurs!

Sounds like a great weekend, and is making me smile. Thanks.

When I lived in Breckenridge my wife ran the film festival there which was a part time job as it wasn't much of a film festival, but it meant I got to spend a few years on the film festival circuit which was fun.

Anyway it also meant she got to schedule some special screenings which included a student film from some kids at University of Colorado called Alfred Packer: The Musical. People who live in Boulder probably know who Alfred Packer is. He was the only person in the US arrested and tried for cannibalism in a Donner Party type situation. They billed it as Oklahoma meets Friday the 13th.

The kids went on to do a this mildly successful show you may have heard of called South Park. Anyway the movie is hilarious and on Youtube
