Just the cousins

Forums:

I was kind of freaking out yesterday in a weird way about Bobby moving on; not really all that long after losing Phil. Then I saw Peter Rowan show up in a feed and realized he's one of the very "few" that are left still standing. I kind of feel like planning a road trip to see him play and give him a hug. For some reason he skipped last year at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, but he's always been the one act that I make a point of showing front and center every time! Last I saw him, his body wasn't exactly moving too quickly, but he was still very much on point musically. Not sure about Dave Nelson, Grisman, or Melvin? ... haven't seen any of them in quite some time. (I love saying "now just the cousins" when someone asks me to take a photo of them, but it's now simultaneously said and grateful that we're left with the cousins).

I'll be at the Ryman show on Friday and will see him at the Egg in Albany next month with Sam

Seeing Melvin & JGB in Feb. He's good.

Glad that you will be at this show! Aged wine can be superb.....

I have a feeling Jerry Day will be even more heartfelt than ever this year.

I'm sure that will be a special one at the Ryman!

Here's a clip from the Ryman from Friday of Walls of Time, co-written with Bill Monroe ... it's hard not to think of Jerry and the connective tissue to everything. I'm blown away by how good Rowns' voice is at 83! He's still on it with guitar too.

^ If Cap'n Crunch were a pirate (above). I'm normally not a big fan of the 50 people on stage thing, but I thought this one was interesting in how Peter "band surfed" into the amorphous center like a "zen band surfer" and eventually pulled everyone back together in a tight way.

Fish, how was the Ryman?  Wish I had known you'd be there as my whole crew bailed due to the weather.   I had different travel plans but bailed on them as I wasn't feeling the solo bit.

I unfortunately got flights cancelled due to weather conditions out of Syracuse so had to bail. Hopefully the Egg show with Sam and Peter next month will redeem my disappointment. Looks like it was great. Always a gamble when you buy tickets for a show in January I suppose
