Oh, we lucky few.
This random time at the great & glorious & totally unique Terrapin Crossroads (thank you Phil & Jill) just came to mind. Just a little rock 'n roll...

Let's hear other unique times with the great Bob Weir.
To start, another time at TxR, I was in the Grate Room one night standing next to the entrance to the little backstage area when Bob was going in directly behind me. At the (im)perfect moment I (a big lug) turned and slammed into Bobby, bashing him against the wall. I was mortified and grabbed onto him as he bounced off the wall, certain he was going to rip me a new one.
As I straightened him and made sure I didn't kill him I profusely apologized, expecting the incredulous rock star attitude, but he just looked at me with a smile and said, "It's OK man, I'm fine".
I'm sure going to miss knowing that kind, decent, easygoing man has moved on.

Just one Bob Weir memory among so many : New Message
Back in 1990 I was living in Mill Valley, After I think 9 shoes at the Gaaaaarden, and before the European shoes, I found myself invited to an Optimistic Party at the Muir beach community center. It was a cool laid back scene ,with a band called SKYCOUD. I think, We went with Sonny and Sue two hipsters from Marin. The lady who sang was awesome and had a beautiful voice, anyway about 1/2 way trough the evening Bobby showed up in shorts and a purple lacoste..I think there we4e about 50 people there, And I just happened to be grabbing a beer off the Keg, it was almost like a keg party vibe, I said Hey Bobby want a beer? Sure he said. Thanks ..I pulled home a beer you'd jim I enjoyed The Msg shoes, Thanked him for going through with the European Tour, gave him a Bumper sticker which I made it said PEACE+ LOVE= HAPPINESS " toute le monde", Sonny ✂️ out one of the ❤️, and discreetly put it on his shorts on his ass, we laughed.. Bobby didn't play but we did share a few beers, left knowing that Bobby had a heart on his ass..Fun guy!RIP @ the Jubalee

My one and only close
My one and only close encounter with Bobby was backstage at the Warfield before a Neville Brothers show. Early 90s?
At the time I was involved with agricultural distribution and was hanging with Cyril Neville, (we had mutual friends) in a rather small dressing room, as he was quite fond of Northern California's wares. It was only the two of us. Cyril could rant for hours about New Orleans music, racial oppression, and history. He is/was quite engaging.
Out of nowhere, Bobby and Natasha walked in and sat down and, as expected, the only conversation was between the two musicians. I just sat there listening, taking it all in. (I had a knack of disappearing into the woodwork whenever I had a backstage pass -- I didn't want to be grouped in with the hovering edgy coke dealers by Morty Wiggens, Bill Graham's Neville's guy. )
Cyril passed Bobby the joint I had rolled and he politely declined a couple passes UNTIL he got a whiff of it (shout out to Redway!) Then he proceeded to eagerly partake and obviously enjoyed it. Cool -- Bob Weir likes my weed. Stoked!
(Unbeknownst to Bobby, this same strain -- no one used that term then -- was regularly procured from the farmer by the GD office for Jerry and others, so it was not at all shabby.) In my fuzzy recollection I recall Weir joining the Nevilles for the opening number, Fire on the Bayou.
A minor thrill, but a thrill nonetheless.

a second hand report, gal friend of mine hung out with Bobby after a show. He let her and her other friend drive his pink cadillac. That's the story I heard and that he was a perfect gentleman.

My buddy & I were in the upstairs bar at the Fillmore before seeing David Murray after his Dark Star album. My buddy had just grabbed some tapes from his sister and he was ranting about one of the January 78 shows where Jerry had laryngitis and Bob (and Donna) sang all the songs. My buddy was carrying on how he was happy he wasn't at that show when I notice that Bob is sitting at the table next to us. I tried to give my buddy an 'ixnay' signal and he finally looked over his shoulder. It wasn't clear if Bob heard him, but he certainly didn't pay any attention. It was a funny moment, regardless and one that I still tease my friend about.
Bob and Phil played most of that show with David Murray and it was a fine night at the Fill-mo.

I was working a Dead and Company show at the Broomfield Event Center ( maybe first tour) and soundcheck was going long. Bob said "Time's up, but just remember - Don't play with volume, play with intention". Such a sage.

Shared a bottle of Champagne with Bobby from the 1st row of the Capitol Theatre in Passaic. I believe it was a Bobby and the Midnight's show. Passed it back and forth between him, a departed friend of mine and myself until it was gone. Hope they're sharing one together on the other side.

I worked in Mill Valley at a bank for about four years in the early 2000's. Bob and Natascha were clients and would come in everyone once in a while. Early on in their marriage, Bob had her on a tight budget (lol), so she would come in every week for cash. Eventually opened up accts for their little girls when they were old enough. Always played live Dead in the office on Fridays. Got a kick out of it when they would walk in with some show blaring overhead. They were generous with passes and tix and were always super gracious. Just a nice local family. :)

Another TxR story...
Another Bob story from TxR...
I was outside the Grate Room one afternoon when Bob was playing with Phil (it might have been the Furthur show where Dickey Betts showed up and sat in). I was standing with a couple of other folks in the back where the artists parked next to the backstage/patio entrance.
Bob pulled up in a very nice Lexus and parked. He got out and walked into the patio area, leaving his car door open and the engine running. We looked around, thinking maybe he was coming right back out but he didn't come back, the car just idling with the door open.
After a few minutes his manager came out to get some lyrics out of the car, saw the situation and smiled and shook his head, turning off the engine and closing the door after retrieving the lyric pages.
We must have looked a bit incredulous as he told us that Bob did that sometimes when something was on his mind, one time leaving a car in gear in his driveway and it rolled into a tree.
It should be said that this was around the time when Bob was not at his best, dealing with his long-injured shoulder with pain pills and booze, not long before his collapse at the Capitol Theatre, which I believe was a catalyst for him to get straight and in better shape, so I can't say he was always such an absent minded professor, but he certainly was that day.
Needless to say, absent minded or not, he played well that night.

I bumped into Bob at the Delta check in counter at the Atlanta airport the afternoon after the last show of the Other Ones tour 2000. I heard the person next to me talking and say their name, looked over and wow, it was who I thought it was. Luckily I had a throw away camera in my pocket. This was before he turned into the Lorax. I saw him one other time in Boise, ID at a record store signing with Ratdog. He was super nice to me both times. In Boise he signed my Weir and Wasserman cd. It looks like a bunch of scribbles.

A deadhead buddy of mine was going to be doing stage work at the Weir/Wasserman show in SLC in November of 1991.
So I gave him my guitar, and a pic I took in Vegas in April 1991. Bob autographed both. When I called him with the news, one of the things he said was "He was the nice one!"
