Kamala Harris for President

Forums:

A fresh start; a new thread. I think she's got what it takes to take down Trump. Decisively.

I think she's got what it takes to take down Trump<<<

How so?

The excitement is palpable and sense of relief has fallen over the land.   Many independents were uncomfortable choosing between a sleazy con-artist and a feeble old man with memory problems and would have just stayed home.   That is no longer the issue (at least from the Democrat side) and Trump is now the old guy who mixes up words and has trouble staying awake.   Add in Kelly, Beshear, or Shapiro as a running mate and you have a force to be reckoned with.

> How so?

I see in Harris an interesting paradox. She's a scrapper with a ferocious side, and also has a joyful quality that seems like the real thing. As Attorney General of California, she has executive experience, and as VP she's gained experience in how the swamp works. She's also an embodiment of DEI, which should enrage certain parts of the Right, and hopefully they'll make errors in how they deal with that. She's relatively young, has high energy, and probably enough humility to see that she can't vanquish Trump on her own, so she'll need to build a coalition that could unite us in ways we haven't seen in quite a while.

You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. We've lived through almost 10 years of Trump's vision of carnage, and it's time to turn the page.

>>>>hopefully they'll make errors in how they deal with that.

You mean like JD Vance calling Kamala a "childless cat lady" who is "miserable because she doesn't have children"?

They are smarter we all know...

Shes smart n sassy my over seas vote is going for pamela

I get the MAGA racists going with  DEI attacks, but labeling her a whore when their guy banged porn stars seems absolutely ridiculous

it's amazing that women vote republican at all.

well....at least she's not the other two dudes.

Now if she picks Bernie as VP , I'll eat icecream again

> labeling her a whore when their guy banged porn stars seems absolutely ridiculous

I'm sure whoever came up with that didn't think beyond Rhymes with Joe. That's the MAGA way.

wait for it...

Trump: She's not my type

>>>How so?

Honestly nothing more than she can give a press conference and not make all of her supporters depressed. Being able to articulate a few ideas turns out to be important for running for President.

The two things Donald Trump fears most are a strong black woman and a strong wind.

The Democratic Convention is going to be a fun celebration- I expect celebrities galore to endorse her, and yeah that gets people to vote.

From her speech today talking about being a prosecutor.

“In those roles, I took on perpetrators of all kinds. Predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say: I know Donald Trump’s type,” she said.

just caught the end of Harris' speech in WIsconsin. She was on fire.

When we fight, we win!

But but it's a coup.

She is so much better at this. We are not going back!

https://www.threads.net/@aaron.rupar/post/C9xsH8dAN5g

She makes a good argument for voting Blue.

Now let's work on getting out the vote and supporting Her.

And hope that the Supreme Court doesn't support bogus claims being made by desperate MAGA concerning her candidacy, or later overturn the election results.

Already MAGA have said they will only accept the results if he wins. Good news is that this time I trust the  traitors and insurrectionists will be dealt with more efficiently than before.

¡Vermin Supreme!

Times reporters spoke with more than 250 delegates across the country this week, before Ms. Harris announced that she had collected enough delegate pledges to become her party’s presumptive nominee...As Ms. Harris turns her attention to selecting a running mate, the interviews show no clear consensus among this group of party insiders over whom she should pick: 16 percent of respondents said it should be Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, and 11 percent said Mark Kelly, the senator from Arizona. About 28 percent of respondents said they did not know whom the selection should be, or they did not respond to the question.

^^^They want her gone so she can't certify the election results

Probably the president pro tempore of the senate (currently Patty Murray of WA). As instructed in the constitution, "The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the Absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the Office of President of the United States." So if Kamala is bumped up to president and there's an absence in the vice presidency, Patty Murray would take over as the temporary president of the senate and thus she would probably be the one to certify the election in January.

Not that simple.

>Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

>Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

right,  but until then and in the absence of a vote, that's the process, no? Constitution seems pretty clear on it

Not so clear, would like to hear from a constitutional scholar on the matter. Because until a new VP is confirmed the person has no power  - certifying the election  *could* go to Speaker of the House?

and unlikely that this  Congress would have enough votes to  confirm a Democrat as VP should Harris ascend to President before the election.

Need I remind you how the GOP behaved  when Obama had the right  to fill Supreme Court vacancies?

Yes it could... just as you say, that's also included in 25a

No you "needn't remind me" I understand and feel your concern...Biden serves out his term and she certifies the vote. Al Gore certified George W. Bush's election and Harris can either certify that she won or....you know, whatever. Let's just win and make it all moot.

I foresee JD Vance being replaced in the next couple of weeks. I mean he has to pick a stooge but he picked one that can do the most damage, I know that is debatable with so many clowns in the car, but I think it's coming

Well, that would take Trump admitting he was wrong- and since the GOP already had their convention that ship has sailed

Trump should be forced to carry Vance to term.

So what's up with JD Vance and all the sofa memes?

So how is that no racists comments about Harris going?

Screen Shot 2024-07-24 at 1.43.53 PM.png

They called Obama worse, and the Monkey images they shared of the Obama family didn't stop his momentum.

Maybe the GOP racists forget they're not wearing their HOODS and we can see them? I don't expect them to change.

And the attacks against Harris aren't quite as bad as the attacks on Hillary. Give it another day..

Fox Business News host said VP Harris was the original "Hawk Tuah" Girl?

I had to look it up.

https://www.thecut.com/article/hawk-tuah-girl-viral-tiktok-video-explain...

The Alitos are guilty of desecrating the flag - so he wants to jail them?

Did the Alito's desecrate the flag, did they fly a desecrated flag, or did they fly a flag created to look like a take off of a flag?

 Or?

> I had to look it up.

knowyourmeme.com

He could get rid of sofa guy and bring on My Pillow Guy.

That would be fun to watch....

It's desecrating the flag to fly it upside down

Probably not.

18 U.S. Code § 700 - Desecration of the flag of the United States; penalties

(a) (1) Whoever knowingly mutilates, defaces, physically defiles, burns, maintains on the floor or ground, or tramples upon any flag of the United States shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/700

And the ACLU would say definitely not.

ACLU of Iowa Challenges State's Flag Desecration Law

The American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa today filed a lawsuit on behalf of two college students here who were prohibited by city and county officials from displaying a United States flag upside down in protest of U.S. government policies.

Today's lawsuit challenges Iowa's "flag desecration" statute, a law that has already been ruled unenforceable by the state's highest court.

"Bad laws like these should be stricken from the Iowa code," said Ben Stone, Executive Director of the ACLU of Iowa. "Even though courts have consistently ruled that flags may be used in the course of war protests, police and prosecutors continue to use this law for no other purpose than to silence government critics."

According to the lawsuit, two Grinnell College students -- John Bohman and Juan Diaz -- came under scrutiny for displaying an American flag outside their dorm window. The students hung the flag upside down, observing the official method of using the flag to indicate distress as a statement of their "displeasure with the policies of the United States Government."

And, in fact, the US Supreme Court has held that burning the US flag can be burned as part of a protest.

In 1989, in Texas v. Johnson, the United States Supreme Court reversed the conviction of a Texas protestor who was arrested for actually burning a flag in the course of a demonstration, declaring that the right of free speech protected symbolic use of the flag.

Re: the couch...Someone posted this on Twitter.

Back in the day, Lyndon Johnson allegedly tried to spread a rumor an opponent had carnal knowledge with a pig. His aide said “Christ, Lyndon," said the aide, "we can't just call the guy a pig-f**ker. It isn't true.” Johnson says “but I want to make the son-of-a-bitch deny it.”

Rick Santorum never denied he was the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex, but the internet remembers.

I researched after Nancy posted  >> It's desecrating the flag to fly it upside down << but didn't see that definition anywhere.

I did see that  > The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the national flag of the United States of America. < but is not enforceable.

>>>“but I want to make the son-of-a-bitch deny it.”

This is one of my favorite stories and a tactic that I'm surprised isn't used more often.

JD is quickly becoming the Sarah Palin of Dan Quayles.   Wonder if Donnie is going to dump him?

Trump tonight at the Turning Point Action summit in West Palm Beach, Florida:

“And again, Christians: Get out and vote! Just this time. You won’t have to do it anymore! Four more years, you know what? It’ll be fixed, it’ll be fine. You won’t have to vote anymore,” he said. “In four years you don’t have to vote again, we’ll have it fixed so good you’re not gonna have to vote.”

Their 'Bible' IS the Handmaids Tale

The Harris campaign is pressing Wall Street donors to cut their checks as soon as possible, citing a financial rule that bars contributions to tickets featuring a sitting governor, according to people familiar with the matter.

Why it matters: The urgency of the requests has led some donors to conclude that Harris plans to pick a governor — and not a senator, like Mark Kelly of Arizona — to be her running mate.

https://www.axios.com/2024/07/31/kamala-harris-vp-pick-wall-street-donors

Gretchen is Governor too..and would be great. So.. Gretchen or Kelly?

I hope Pete is still in contention though.

We need all the senators to stay senators.

Yeah.

Gretchen or Pete, please

I predicted it a while ago Andy Beshear Governor of Kentucky

But could also be Josh Shapiro Governor of Pennsylvania which is more likely being a swing state and all

Get behind Pete!?

On Monday, Whitmer said on "CBS Mornings" that she was "not a part of the vetting" process for Harris' running mate.

"I have communicated with everyone, including the people of Michigan, that I'm going to stay as governor until the end of my term at the end of 2026," Whitmer said.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/north-carolina-governor-withdraws-kamal...

Probably gonna be Shapiro as Harris will be making the announcement in Pennsylvania

Vice President Kamala Harris will hold her first rally with her running mate next Tuesday in Philadelphia, the first stop in a four-day tour of the battleground states next week, her campaign said on Tuesday night.

Ms. Harris’s campaign insisted that the travel schedule did not mean anything about whom she might select as her vice-presidential nominee, though one top contender, Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, was raised in the Philadelphia suburbs and remains a major booster of the city’s sports teams.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/30/us/politics/kamala-harris-vp-timing.html

Shapiro wouldn't be in my top 3 but I can see how he probably does offer the greatest electoral value

so whatever gets the job done I guess

I don't know, a half Black half Southeast Asian woman as POTUS is one thing. Add to that a Jewish and pro-Israel VP, and the Bernie Bros heads are going to explode. I'm not sure the USA is quite ready for that level of diversity, especially the far left and far right. Probably better to have a Wonder Bread VP from the Midwest.

>>>so whatever gets the job done I guess

Agree.

Complications with each option.  No perfect choice but some very good ones.

Tim Walz

Great pick!!!

I'm not sold on the Minn. angle but his background ->

(from Wiki) Born in West Point, Nebraska, Walz joined the Army National Guard and worked in agriculture, manufacturing, and teaching after high school.....Before running for Congress, he worked as a social studies teacher in the Mankato school district.

->seems like a good way to pull over some middle liners.

Solid

And now the batshit rightwing "news" channels, are suggesting since Kamala is such a anti-semite that Josh Shapiro should change parties.

Moonalice and their new hit single, "Kamala (Follow Her)". I sure hope Roger is paying Sless and Molo enough money to retire on, because this stuff must be taking years off their lives.

Still don't know how she can overcome Trump's SCOTUS.

He's going to find or manufacture some voting irregularity. His newly elected minions in the counties or state houses will refuse to certify and after some delay the US House or the Supremes will throw the election to Trump.

I have no doubt that's what Trump will do, Surfdead, but what we need to remember is that it didn't work for him last time.

Yeah, but he had no idea what to do then.

He still doesn't, but his minions have about 70 county and state officials primed and ready this time. They also know how to appellate-court shop now.

How does one "appellate-court shop"?

Like, what's the process?

Not exactly sure, but it involves appealing to whichever court/judge would be most receptive. If you had 50 "cases", you could just appeal to the one that was in your pocket. In addition, any particular case could be shopped if an argument could be made that the conduct occurred in any of several jurisdictions.

>>>>> How does one "appellate-court shop"?   Like, what's the process?

The US Court of Appeals have 11 circuits each covering a specific geographic area.  If you feel one of the appellate circuits will be more inclined to rule in your favor on a particular issue, you can file an action in one of the US District Courts in the that circuit on that issue knowing whoever loses at the district court level will appeal to your favored US Court of Appeals.

Sometimes this results in splits in the circuits on a particular issue of law and those are the types of cases the Supreme Court takes up to resolve the split and promote uniform application of the law across the country.

Look up Judge Reed O'Connor in Texas. He was appointed by Trump and is the the most corrupt judge in the US. Musk is suing advertisers because they won't advertise on Twitter. He has brought his case in front of Judge O'Connor. When they tried to out law the abortion pills that the FDA approved 20 years ago it was brought in front of the same Judge. When Musk sued Media Matters he has allowed them to do discovery before he rules on the merits of the case. That is unheard of and they have already had to lay off people in order to cover the costs of lawyers. Pretty much all the worst cases start with him. That wouldn't be a problem except that once he rules in your favor and he will always rule in your favor it goes to the 5th circuit which is the Trump circuit.

The 5th circuit will rubber stamp Judge O'Connor and then he mostly but not always gets overturned by the Supreme Court even this Supreme Court. This is the difference between right wing media and the rest of media. If someone this corrupt were on the left it would be the top story on Fox every night and everybody would know his name. But "our" media treats it all like there is some kind of real legal questions that has to be ruled on when it's just a fascist judge and a fascist circuit court doing their thing.

That said election cases where a county refuses to certify can't be shopped, and this is nothing new. They have tried this more than 20 times so far and they are 0 for 20 with one guy in New Mexico going to jail for refusing to certify. That doesn't mean they won't keep trying because they have endless money from the people who own the Wynn in Vegas and the heir of Kroger's that fund these cases even though they keep losing.

Thanks Babs!  Too bad the owner of the the Dallas Mavericks don't thank that way too.

will throw the election to Trump. <<< Sorry surfdead  HA HA ! Come Hell or High Water !

TRUMP IS TOAST.

Man, I sincerely hope so.

But don't underestimate the power of Rump's SCOTUS.
