Kidd Candelario GoFundMe

Forums:

As some of you may know and for those of you who don't- longtime Grateful Dead employee and Bay Area legend, Kidd Candelario had three small strokes on the right side of his brain. Last week he was traveling to work in his car when he was found mildly responsive but unable to operate the vehicle or communicate.

After spending five days in the hospital, he was transitioned to an an Acute Care facility where he will participate in an intensive physical therapy process. He is working with occupational therapists, neuropsychologists and a speech therapist among a host of other doctors.  Although his team is optimistic about his condition, there is still a long road ahead of us as he regains his strength. Until then he will need daily care and support as he has lost a large portion of mobility and functionality on the left side of his body. Even though his incredible sense of humor and rolodex of rockstar stories are still intact, he will not be able to return to work making cables for quite some time.

Donations to Kidd will help him with both his recovery and his return to a healthier and more stable life.  In addition to donations, we would greatly appreciate help from any Bay Area friends with leads on a comfortable and safe living environment for him (no stairs).  Thank you so much to those who have reached out thus. far, your well wishes mean a lot to him and we read them with him daily.

Thank you,

Catalina Candelario and Cody Candelario (Kidds Candelario)

Damn. That is shitty news. Thanks for the 'heads up'.

It's not my call but maybe, for example, Bobby could pawn that Tesla he bought for his daughter and pony up for the guy(s) whom hauled equipment coast to coast and beyond for all of those years? Was Hunter really broke enough that he had to scrounge up some gigs to help cover his medical bills too?

I gave what I was able.

It's gross and creepy to me that this even exists.

D&C gearing up to make another $50 million or whatever this summer...

I hope the man can find a little comfort

Wonder if Mayer has ever even heard of him

Mayer couldnt lick the bottoms of his boots.

he was or is living at a compound in oakland where my friend shares a music studio. we stayed there after a show a few years back. basically under the 880. was sketchy as hell.

Yeah, that's pretty shitty.  Not surprising but shitty none the less.

Save the hippy dippy vibes and poney up.

Yeah, time to give back. He got us into shows a couple of times. Our friends who breed and train   Rotties in NH got to know the fellow Rottie lovin roadie well

Steve Parish ponied up $25.

Seems like a benefit show would be a no-brainer if the old men could stop behaving like little children and bury their grudges.

Met him once at the register of a diner in Ventura in 84. He was nice enough to chat with me for a minute.

He is family as family gets.  Sending vibes and prayers for a full recovery.

Wishing Kidd successful and complete recovery;
he'll need a huge amount of costly care and attention to get there.

Hi everyone,

First and foremost I just wanted to say thank you all very much for supporting us the way you have. From those who have offered advice or council to those sharing this campaign with others and of course to those contributing. We are all actually stunned at the outcome and absolutely overcome with gratitude and relief. I’ve always understood my father to be a popular guy but this really just goes to show the impact he’s made and the lives he’s touched. Reading your comments, texts and messages to him is the most comforting thing for him during this uncertain time. My initial plan was to create a gofund me asking for $3,000 which would only cover the beginning of his medical expenses and Cody and i would figure out the future later. At the time, that seemed like a big ask and i was not sure what the response would be. After some encouragement from people in our lives we decided to increase the amount and just see what happened. Within 48 hours we were at 25% of our goal which neither of us could have ever anticipated. Your support has seriously blown us away and i can’t even articulate the relief it provides for Cody and I as his care givers for the time being.

As far as Kidd goes, his doctors decided to extend his 2 week program by another 2 weeks so this puts him at a tentative July 3rd release. Once he is released, he’s going to need support as he won’t be as independent as he was before for some time. We are in the process of finding him a safe and comfortable place to live in the Bay Area so any leads are appreciated!
